My first year of teaching I had a Muslim student. I was vaguely aware of Ramadan but didn’t realize it was a winter holiday, so when I was passing out treats for Christmas, she very graciously declined. Afterwards She came up to explain that she was fasting due to Ramadan. I asked her about it and she had some time so she explained the basics. I then asked if it was solely because the gift was food-based that she did not accept and she assured me that was the only reason. Next day, I came in with a small gift that was not food-based and she lit up. Culture is a deep part of a person’s upbringing, and it serves us all to respect what everyone else brings to the table.

I honestly tried my best to make it somehow, and mostly used Horse Ranch for it, because that at least has some storage boxes that don't look like treasure chests. I'm overall very disappointed in the lack of historical cultures and eras represented in the game. The Sims seems so modern and it's borderline impossible to play in an era from more than a hundred years ago without mods/CC. Oh, and one other time I tried to make one of those soviet apartments, and that's when I realized that we don't have a fence that look like those yellow ones found in soviet houses. I eventually gave up on the apartment, because the outside barely got close, maybe if you squinted, and I didn't even try the inside honestly. I'm not Arabic but I fell in love with the cultures at University, I worked with Bangladeshi men at a take away, I lived with a woman who was Muslim and another who was Sikh. I am very much white, not straight and have tats and piercings, and I have never had as much acceptance and care form another group of people so quick. During Ramadan they would pull me out of the kitching to eat with them and talk, they sent me home with food every night. Happy Ramadan!

Finding out you're Arab is my Ramadan highlight rn lol. I love the fact that you talked about how most places in the Middle East have tile floors because when I do my builds that's all I want to use instead of wood, but there aren't any good options because they're all basically for bathrooms 😭😭😭 anyways... 7:45 you just unlocked so many memories. we had our roof renovated into a third living room in 2021 since rain kept leaking into our house. but before the renovation, me and my cousins always hung out there, inflating the kiddie pool and swinging on our swingset, playing hide and seek, so many golden moments in my childhood. sad that its gone now ramadan mubarak :))

Regarding the build challenge: I don't know if I'm good enough but I'll try. It's so hard to make those beautiful baroque buildings that are everywhere in Vienna. (I wish I could afford a mansion/castle someday...) Our normal living houses aren't that different from american homes. (The most different things are that our suburban homes have fences all around them and not only the backyard fenced in, we usually have hallways to enter the building with closets for jackets and shoes and not enter and stand in the living room and we have our toilets in separate rooms and not in the bathroom very often.) Ooh or I could build a rural old farming home like they are in the Alpes. 🤔

I will probably go with a concrete block apartment building 😅 I'd love to build something more traditional to specifically our architecture (I'm czech) but unfortunately that's pretty much impossible in the sims (or maybe not, I honestly never tried, but specifically those roofs could be hard - though now that I look at them, I think it might actually be possible to build that! I might try after all) A lot of our architecture is "borrowed" from around us including the concrete blocks and a lot of people here hate them because they're a reminder of the SSSR but for me, they've always felt like home. Moreso than the traditional houses because those are considered cultural and not a lot of people get to live in them (it's usually generational afaik). I could also go for the classic type of house I live in but I feel like that would be boring. We'll see 😅

Although I have to say they didn't have many counters in their kitchen and when I asked he said it was because the rent was cheaper that way. Anyways loved the build and yes would love more Arab representation in the Sims (although I saw a pose pack for Salah. Not the football player but the actual act of worship like going into sujood. As an African American the phrase, “One of the good ones” is like nails on a chalkboard due to how many times I’ve heard it in reference to me or my family because we don’t fit the narrow minded and racist stereotypes inflicted on my people. Also this build looks great and I am glad you shared more of your culture for the Sims community - I’ve loved your previous videos/builds. Especially since I make Sims from all different cultures and feel the same about low Arab rep is which limits some of the sims and stories I want to tell.

Honestly, this video is so inspiring. I don't know much about Arab culture because the representation in the media is indeed very bad, so thank you for making this! As a Pole, whenever I see Polish rep on TV that mixes in Russian traditions I've never seen happening here (post-communism we're trying to throw away anything Russia-related), and throws in "Polish phrases" that technically sound like Polish but not something anyone would actually say... yeah, it's a little frustrating.

girrrrl i feel ur frustration with lack of representation. even finding enough modest women's clothing is a nightmare in this game. i've been desperately wanting another desert world in this game too since the ones that we currently have can't be customized to have the setting i want and it bums me out so bad seeing those dang motels and gas stations in the strangerville background. anyway thank you for the great build, it's one of my favorites from ur channel. I love how you talk about your culture and experiences. I love hearing about how you grew up with a different point of view. I'm Portuguese and grew up with a pretty different household compared to all the other Canadians around me, and it always felt awkward. But then you exist, and you just take pride in who you are and just talk about what makes you, you. I love that. I wish I was like that when I was growing up, taking pride instead of being shy and trying to fit in. FFG. Icon. She's an icon. She's it, she's lit, she's the shit.

Ramadan Kareem! Thank you so much for sharing your process, and what your childhood looked like! I feel you with the whole pressure of having to be "one of the good ones" - I'm Native, so I'm not allowed to be angry about being misrepresented either, because that in itself feeds into a stereotype. Like you said, people either don't remember or don't care about the variety in our cultures, we just get mashed together with everyone else that falls under a geographic umbrella. When we create for ourselves, we make changes happen, so I hope EA is watching and taking notes!

Flat rooftops are my favorite! It's Holi so I was reminded of how much fun I used to have as a kid in Nepal. We would throw water balloons from the rooftop on people walking by. We would have connecting rooftops to houses next door so we would throw colors and use water guns and pichkari while hiding and avoiding one another. Also when I would go to Terai for the summer and we would lay down a mattress on the rooftop and just enjoy the night breeze and the open sky. Although the mosquitoes were out for our blood, it was still so nice and peaceful. I miss it so much.

There's so much good food. And they could even make a world that is split between Eastern/Western Europe and Scandinavia, but it would have to be the size of Windenburg and there's no way they would make something that big.
