The Finetrack Polygon UL Jacket has us rethinking our milder weather layering system on the Appalachian Trail.
In milder weather (30s-60s °F), we find ourselves still carrying an insulated (puffy) jacket just in case the temps drop significantly. We rarely use it and it takes up a lot of room.
We think the Polygon UL might be the right solution if we make better use of our layers.
When paired with our Senchi Designs Alpha Direct mid-layer that we carry already, it is nearly as warm as our usual puffy, the EE Torrid Jacket. Since the Polygon UL is synthetic and has pit/side zips, we can also wear it to hike in during cooler temps and light rain or drizzle. No longer is our insulated jacket banished to our pack spring through fall...
Pros:
- multi-purpose (walking layer and as a camp jacket)
- pit/side zips for venting
- synthetic insulation (warm when wet)
- 2x external and 2x internal pockets
- packs smaller than a puffy
- ships fast to US
Cons:
- no hood
- Sizing (Japanese sizing up to XL only)
- Availability (from Japan only, most sizes currently out of stock)
- not as warm as a "traditional" puffy (need to use layers)
Weight: 7.1oz
April 2024 cost: $249.70
