This is my in-depth review of the FineVu GX1000 2-channel dash camera. If you have a question about the FineVu GX1000 dash camera, please leave a comment with your question and I will try to answer your question as soon as possible. I have a separate video with additional video samples from the FineVu GX1000. Check out this video's description section for a link to that video sample video.

Yo Robert, Fantastic job. FineVu owes you a debt of gratitude for testing, and providing feedback to improve the camera, and future models. 4:41 I really like that combination on/off switch that prevent premature ejection of the SD card. 8:13 I really like the 3 Year Warranty. Most dash cams I see only have 1 Year. 16:41 That is a wonderful HDR comparison using that illuminate road sign at night. 30:28 I see a lot of consumers requesting OBD2 power cables for dash cams to enable parking mode functions without having to use a traditional 3-wire hardwire kit. This option should be nice for those folks. -Chuck

Just installed one of these in my car. Its replacing a Lukas camera which I simply wasn't happy with after 2 years. Bit concerned about the AI false alarm filter in your testing I'm hoping it works when an actual car hits the dash cam car. Thanks for your time in making this video for us.

Thanks for this excellent in-depth review. Can you tell me how good the connectivity is between the camera and an iPhone. I'm currently comparing the GX1000 with its app and the Thinkware X1000 with a touch-screen (but no app).

I mainly test the dash cameras that I review with an Android 10 tablet. I did use my very, very old iPhone 6S Plus running iOS 15.6 (at the time) with the GX1000 and I don't recall running into any problems with connectivity or using the app.

Which setting for parking mode do you believe is the best option to choose?
@RetroCarGuy530

I tend to be a fan of parking modes that record on a continuous basis. For the GX1000, I usually select the "Smart Time Lapse" parking mode. It will create time-lapse video files (no audio), but if an impact occurs while in parking mode, the GX1000 will create an additional 20 second impact video (10 seconds before the impact and 10 seconds after the impact). IMO, the "Power Saving" parking mode takes too long (5.6 seconds) to wake up and start recording. That's why I tend to stick with parking modes that are recording continuously.

I haven't heard from FineVu regarding any new app version. I just upgraded to an iPhone 15 Plus, but I haven't had time to test it with a GX1000. I try to do that in the next couple of days.

I pulled out one of my GX1000 dash cameras from my storage cabinet. I have the "latest" iOS FineVu app version of 1.1.58 installed on my iPhone 15 Plus running iOS 17.4.1. Before running any tests, I did turn of a Norton Anti-Virus VPN that is installed on my iPhone so it would not get in the way of the Wi-Fi connection between my phone and the GX1000. The FineVu app found three things to update on the GX1000: Speed Camera data, Firmware and "dash cam Language". The firmware that was installed was 1.00.002. The app updated the firmware to 1.00.005, speed camera data to 202420 and "English" "dash cam Language" to 107. With the GX1000 rebooted with all of the updates in place, I ran a file download test of some files. I was able to download the "front only", "rear only" and the "original video" files without any problems. The Wi-Fi connection was stable during the entire time the FineVu app was connected to the GX1000. I only have my phone connect to the GX1000 over a Wi-Fi connection when updating files on the GX1000, changing settings or viewing/downloading video files from the GX1000. If there's an interruption in the connection to your GX1000, you may want to switch to "Settings > Wi-Fi" and see if your phone is still connected to the GX1000 Wi-Fi or not. If it's still connected, the issue you're experiencing may be related more with the FineVu app. If not connected to the GX1000 Wi-Fi, then make sure nothing on your phone is forcing a disconnect (i.e. a VPN auto re-enables itself during the connection to the FineVu GX1000). I hope that helps!

When an empty microSD card is inserted into the GX1000, it will detect that none of the typical GX1000 file directories are present. The GX1000 will begin a 30 second countdown (in 10 second increments) warning you it will format the memory card. After the format has been completed, it will reboot the GX1000. To update the firmware, you download the firmware to your computer, mount the memory card from the GX1000 on your computer and place the GX1000_FW.bin file in the root of the file system for the memory card. Dismount the memory card from your computer. Place the memory card into the GX1000. During the next power up of the GX1000 it will update the firmware.

I dont know if its just mine.. but i have 1.00.003 version now and sensitivity is way too low even with high setting so tapping wouldn't even trigger g sensor. How is yours doing with the latest update?

I finished my testing of the FineVu GX1000 back in March 2023. I had a beta copy of the 1.00.003 firmware. That version was producing some false events when my car was turning right. I just downloaded the publicly available 1.00.003 firmware zip file and it has a different GX1000_FW.bin file in it when compared to what I was testing it in March. I'd have to get the GX1000 re-installed in my car and test the updated 1.00.003 firmware. Unfortunately, I just don't see that happening anytime soon with my other active dash camera reviews.

I'm surprised that they can't rec @ 60fps.

The HDR feature being enabled certainly limits the frame rate to 30 (double frames being captured with HDR on), but not having it for at least the front camera is a little surprising. The FineVu GX1000 with the combined front/rear video streams in the same file may also limit the FPS as well. It will be interesting to see when these dash cameras get updated with the newer Sony STARVIS 2 image sensors. Many of the new or updated dash camera models that use the Sony sensors should be getting an upgrade to the STARVIS 2 image sensors in the next several months.
