I like how the whole electrical system comes together. For a future improvement on the electrical box, maybe you could use pin headers to connect each mini-circuit breaker inside the box. It might not slot in exactly like a real circuit breaker would but it would be easier to connect/disconnect each breaker. It would basically be like plucking each mini-circuit breaker from a bread board. It's been 13 months now since your last update on the house, I'm really hoping you'll do an episode or two before the end of the year. I'm really curious as to what you're planning to power in the house with your electrical system (besides lighting). Did you have any ideas? Also, what are you going to do/implement with the control wire? - a few episodes back you mentioned controlling devices on the circuit.

Hi! Yes, great idea! Not something I considered at the time, but that might work out a lot better. I took a break for a year to work on building a model letterpress, which I just finished up last month! kzitem.info/news/bejne/sqawsGyqr2uqomk I've got another project coming up soon, but I'm hoping to make some more progress on the house around the holidays. I'll have a bit larger uninterrupted block of time then! As for what I plan to power - lighting for sure, but I have a dream of being able to (safely!) power a small, working oven or a small, working refrigerator. Those would be quite a challenge... but would be pretty amazing. Ideas welcome too! As for the control circuits - I haven't gotten around to it yet, but the plan is to wire them all up to some i2c boards so that they are all individually addressable via some sort of linux embedded board. It will be pretty cool once it's all hooked up! 🙂

Just got some markers like those myself. They've really come in handy. It'd be nice to see some specialist tool and what you'd recommend for making a miniature house. I'm looking at purchasing some calipers but I've been quite disappointed at how expensive they are. I've heard plastic ones are a no go, and to look at metal ones as they last a lifetime.

Great idea - let me see if I can put a list together. When it comes to calipers - this is the pair I have: www.amazon.com/Anytime-Tools-Caliper-Reading-Standard/dp/B00B5XJW7I. I've had them for > 5 years now, and they still work amazingly well. I'm a dial caliper fan myself, and the "two needle" design means that you can measure in both Imperial and Metric with one tool. Worth looking into if they fit into your price range!

Definitely didn't give up on it! The next step I was working on was plumbing, but this is quite challenging and I was running into some issues. Hoping to get back to this over the holidays once my trip concludes! But if not, I wouldn't be surprised if I take on some smaller projects like making furniture while I'm traveling.

Will u be doing the insulation for the house? I'm making my own model and im unsure of what to use. I was thinking of replicating batt insulation but I also thought spray foam insulation would be cool. I was honestly just going to go with some rolled up toilet paper to fill the cavity but I dont think thats a good idea. Any recommendations?
@RyanGausMakes
3 жыл бұрын
My current plan is to use either some batting like you'd find in a cushion (look up maybe "upholstery batting"?) or trying to split large fiberglass batting into smaller pieces. I thought about spray foam, and at least for my case, that wouldn't be accurate to the actual house this house is modeled after. But, if you wanted to try this out, I bet you could get some expanding foam in a can (like the kind they use for filling gaps in a leaky house) and give that try! And, if you're successful, I'd love to see some pictures of what you end up with!

Working plumbing???
@RyanGausMakes
4 жыл бұрын
Yep, that's the plan, eventually! There's a lot of challenges though with that - water behaves very differently at a small scale and forces like capillary action, etc start to become important considerations. That's part of why I'm taking a break now - a few upcoming projects like that one are going to require a lot of thought.

@@RyanGausMakes I have lots of ideas on how a plumbing system could work for this. I build my model at 1/8":1" so I'm not sure if it would be applicable to this model. But I'd love to share some ideas if you're interested!
@RyanGausMakes
Жыл бұрын
@Garrison Connors Yes, I'm definitely interested! What I had been considering thus far is something like a large water tank within the volume in the roof rafters. Then, all my water lines could be gravity fed and (assuming no kinks in the tubes or anything like that) I suspect I wouldn't have tons of air in the lines. But... that system would need to be very watertight haha, if not, the whole model could very quickly get soaked. That fear is one of the reasons why I have been putting it off so I'd be especially interested in anything you may have come to which doesn't have a failure mode like this!
@garrisonconnors854
Жыл бұрын
@@RyanGausMakes I had the same idea to use a attic mounted tank to supply gravity lines. I dont see how that would be a problem but there is a chance that pressure would be hard to regulate. Im actually beginning a process here of designing a bathroom test model to see if I can get running faucets, showerheads, and at least a flowing toilet. I dont think I'll have the attic space for a grav system so I was thinking of treating it like a supersoaker in a way using compressed air, a regulator and a water tank to pressurize the water tank (regulated and adjustable) and have that go through the lines. for the lines I'm thinking some 3/16" aluminum or copper tubing, its fairly easy to bend and that would eliminate a lot of the fittings stress.. cant leak if there are no connections. I've also been looking into 3d printers because for all the small details like faucet fixtures, towell bars, toilets etc. i feel like it could be invaluable. great series though man. Ive been looking for years for someone else who does this and havent had much luck. I think we could help each other out a lot! Let me know if you want me to send you some photos of what ive done!

Central air... hmmm. I think it could be possible! I'm not sure the exact weight, but I can just about barely lift it. So I'd say somewhere in the neighborhood of 100-120lbs? Most of the mass is from the foundaton.
