Also a contractor of 30 + years out in California, it's obvious that Donovan is very knowledgeable & precise in his work, but i have a question. I don't know if this is an east coast vs. west coast thing, but why are you screwing all the studs to the plates? Wouldn't it be quicker to nail everything? I don't see an advantage + screws are more brittle than nails in shear (not that its a concern on interior non-bearing walls)? Whats the advantage?
@wynandsijben338
2 жыл бұрын
Depending on type of screw, screws can have a similar or even higher shear strength vs nails. So only downside is additional time and cost. But screws are better fastners in terms of holding power and easier to disassemble if needed.

Nice progress guys. When remodeling you have to dot all the "i" s and cross all the "t" s. Adding new structural for the changes without compromising the existing loads. Strategically lacing the new subs flooring with the old. And add blocking to hold the trim nails for the casing and crown yet to be applied. Thanks for sharing this adventure with your diverse audience.

Interesting video. I've learnt to watch the Saturday show first and then Friday's show. Only with certain shows. Example, Friday's show (Workshop Happy Hour) does a camera pan around the room where Matt was doing Friday's show. (Even through Saturday's show kept saying it was "Friday".)¹ Bingo, I see the stairs that Matt had talked about was going to be done in the future at the end of ancient times Saturday's show 😛. So now I won't have to watch next Saturday's show. Will I? Confusing? Not really. Anyhow, one has to be mindful how projects can be long drawn out affairs. I've remodeled a couple of houses. The first house I remodeled we lived in it and the wife got pregnant. It has been 45 years and those years went by fast. The second time I remodeled a house, I had learned my lesson and didn't live in it. Eaglegards...
