One of the best things about seeing you working with Jennifer, and Landon when he is their, is those are such strong memories for the future for them both. It is truly nice to see that you have such a wonderful bond. Family really is everything, and as the world careens onward towards whatever foolishness we will inevitably see it is nice to see such strong familial bonds on full unapologetic display.

I enjoy seeing the family getting involved. For one, it builds great memories and helps keep the family close through shared activities and experiences. But second, it also takes a piece of real estate, and turns it into a family heirloom that each family member has a vested interest in, thereby creating a place that future generations might enjoy.

is any of the wood you are processing dry? or is it all being installed green? if so, do you ever notice shrinkage or cracking to be a big issue? im in the process of designing a timber frame home/cabin that id like to build on my chunk of land in the distant future and im just looking to get some insight if you think the kiln dried route is worth it/necessary. Thanks
@SmokyMountainOutpost
9 ай бұрын
Most of what I use is green. My choices on how to build are dictated when doing so. Knowing the wood will shrink “width” wise you build accordingly. Cracking occurs more frequently but all wood checks. I will have to replace some small siding boards that cracked through. The size of available trees comes into play knowing whatever is left outside the heart wood is what I will use I wouldn’t have much. Using the heartwood in areas that may not be visible is an option as well. I still have twisting and warping with the Poplar being green mostly. I try to let them set at least six months if I can. My time also dictates how long I would have to wait to do a project.

When you are making boards like that do you worry or cut around the pith or the center of the log . Or do you just cut right through the whole log ,and don't worry about the pith or center of the log. that might be causing crooked boards.
@SmokyMountainOutpost
9 ай бұрын
The size of the available trees that I have kind of determines how much lumber I would have outside the Heartwood. So I’ve been trying to use any lumber that contains heart wood in an unseen area and use the other four visual aspects. Those pieces of lumber generally, are the ones that twist or warp on me, but if I can salvage them, I will use them like I said in an area that doesn’t matter
@jeffglasman19
