Way off on the size. I got mine at 12" and within the first year it hit 20", now at around 2 years, its 26" I'm sure at 3 years it will be closer to 30" - they have hit 40" without problems for ones that have gotten old enough.

I have 2 fireeels since 6months. They are both really hard to feed! They only take alive worms but also this is really hard. Sometimes i have the feeling, that they wanna eat but the "swallowing process" goes not that well as it should. I don't know, maybe you have a tipp for me🤷♂️

If they’re having trouble swallowing the food is probably too big, feed them smaller worms like black worms

I have a pair pfnsrd flowerhorns in my 180 gallon tank. My 4 inch Fire Eel is in my 75 Gallon atm, but I planon putting him in the 180 gallon with my Flowerhorns. Do they Flowerhorns leave the Fire Eel alone?

What was that different looking eel in the blue tank
It all depends when your fire eel out grows blood worms. Once your eel starts taking night crawlers, muscles, or shrimp you will notice a huge increase in growth rate. At which point once your eel hits 2 feet long and from my experience from several eels i own you will notice their girth will start increasing alot. At which point its up to you to judge if your fire eel is happy in a 75 gallon. But i can tell you once your fire eel starts putting on some girth and is 2 feet long it be best idea to remove any fish from that tank to reduce bio load. If not keep a tpm meter handy and do frequent tank maintenance. Some of my eels i own are active swimmers and some are not. If you find your eel likes to sleep all day then ya maybe a 75 gallon is fine for awhile but if you get a eel thats very active then you might fine its best to upgrade your tank to something larger that is at least 6 feet long.

Can you feed a fire eel live fish?

Would one be ok with my Blood Parrot cichlid? It would be my Blood Parrot, and a common pleco in a 48 bow front. I plan on upgrading to a 75 gal soon.

I’d say when you upgrade leave the parrot in the bow front. But yeah if it’s a baby it should be fine until it grows.

I have a question My fire eel hasn’t been eating he’s been my aquarium for two weeks and a half and He’s not stress the water parameters are just to his liking it has and There is plenty of hiding spaces for him to hide but he still doesn’t eat I try blood worms but I haven’t tried any other food besides blood worms any recommendations on food that would work.
