To be fair in game we see the Columbians using tears and at one point they take music from the 60s-70s and such and pass it off as their own since at one point you hear Fortunate Son playing in Columbia. So it's not impossible they made old school firearms but used tears to get modern firearm technology to implement into it to make a hybrid of sorts.

One thing they seem to have overlooked with the crank gun is how Booker (and the Patriots) hold it. The rear handle runs parallel to the crank. So to carry, aim, and spin it you need to be fully flexing your right arm just to hold it up. I had always hoped to see other characters mount it on a wagon to show how heavy it was.

20:00 The "peppermill" cranked chaingun is probably partially inspired by Slostin HMG from 1940's, hence the overengineered "clockwork" design that looks like creator wanted to make Gatling Gun because they saw one once for a minute and tried to replicate that memory with their best ability. ru.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9F%D1%83%D0%BB%D0%B5%D0%BC%D1%91%D1%82_%D0%A1%D0%BB%D0%BE%D1%81%D1%82%D0%B8%D0%BD%D0%B0 The gun was unreliable overbloated project that wasted resources and led nowhere. Typical of time and place. The ingame gun has an interesting solution to "how does a character hold it" dilemma - there's like 3-4 different handles and you can headcanon whatever you like. On concept art it also has deployable tripod to explain how Booker can crank and hold it at the same time. There were even swivel mounting points, but they are just aesthetic even on concept art. Maybe it has a "wind up" because it IS an electric version? After all, you take it from an android that has both mechanical drive train and electric system. So for human user the crank is just a hand cranked generator since Columbia doesn't have portable batteries yet. So spool up is your character actually buulding up the charge to spin up the barrel assembly. Think of it like electric transmission in this case. Weird, complex and adds weight. But since you don't have modern batteries...😅

The gold weapons and embossing on most of the weapons in Bioshock Infinite are enabled by default whenever you purchase the collection edition of the game. The guns are usually do not appear like that. EDIT: Also there are upgrades which are given out in the collection edition of the game that are incredibly overpowered at the start of the game. I believe one upgrade increases the first SMG's ammo capacity by 150% which is why it succeeds the drum mag variant.

I even get the chance to play the dlc of the game, burial at sea part 1 and 2, and both of them we're amazing to playthrough. I'm glad that Jonathan has the chance to review the weapons from this game, a game that is consider to be my favorite first person shooter game of all time. Those unusual tabs on the sides of the M1 Carbine analogues sort of look like magazine cut-off tabs you would see on early bolt-action rifles like Kraig Jorganson or Lee Enfield Mk I. They almost look as though they could act as a manual bolt catch for the charging handle if the material is flexable to bend before pulling the changing handle further back to lock it over the tab. Unlike the real M1 carbine’s push button manual bolt catch, having to press two spots at the time to lock and unlock seems like an ergonomic nightmare.

Not having played this game myself, the thing I'm most struck by in the gameplay footage here is that you seem to have an NPC companion who follows you around, takes cover during firefights, and gives you ammo, which is kinda neat and something I don't remember encountering before. Even in military-themed games where you're carrying a gun that would normally come with one (looking at you, MG42), you hardly ever get an ammo mule. :)

IIRC the version of the Mauser that had a magazine was the select-fire, full auto capable M712. As for the machinegun capacities; the lower capacity version, as I recall, is also significantly higher damage. Given that the actual weapon is the same size, it's a safe bet that higher damage would be achieved by being chambered for a much larger cartridge, which could easily mean a physically larger mag still has lower capacity.
@_Shootist_
Жыл бұрын
You are no doubt correct on the pistol being a fancied up version of the M712 Mauser. The other one I believe you are trying to remember is called the "Vox Repeater". I think (given the turbulent development of Bioshock Infinite) the developers left the "Snail Drum" on the Repeater because they already had the gun modeled with the mag & didn't have time to model another. Plus, the Repeater can go from a 20 round mag to a 40 round mag through upgrades.

As he said, one man gattling guns aren't exactly a thing, but in TF2 you obviously have the explanation that Heavy is a huge, muscular bear of a man, capable to withstand the recoil. Booker in comparison is smaller (he's actually around the size of Medic, they're both broad, 6'1, & slightly more on the muscular side without being overly obvious). I dream about a fps/tps where one of the levels is an armory and the final boss is just Jonathan but he has telekinetic powers and fires multiple guns at the same time while explaining fun facts about the weapons he uses in each phase.

Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi would probably be interesting to see Jonathan cover as its set in 1912 so all of the weapons are pre WWI which is something you don't see very often.

It's nice that Jonathan sees how the development would take different routes for the alternate, retro-engineered design schema of Columbia. Really, it enhances the review. I'll add that I've been waiting on this one for months!

Jonathan needs to see the really weird Payday 2 guns, like the Mad Max'd Korobov and the Kingsman TT-33

So i think infinite is one of the only games where the cloth strips actually serve a purpose; theyre the weapons of a popular uprusing that doesnt have a standardised uniform, so the red lets them quickly identify each other

I forgot how good the shooting was in this game.

14:20 and 15:50: I think the "projection" is meant to be another cocking handle for ambidextrous use. Since Booker's right handed, he still uses the right handle and not the left.

I think what is interesting about the m1 carbine and that Czech SMG, among others, and their deviations of design, especially the weird stopping mechanism of the carbine, is that from what i remember in the game, it is sort of hinted that, as these are guns that won't be invented in decades, they've been designed from what i imagine are people looking through rifts, or perhaps even taking weapons from them to then reverse-engineer, so to say. And i think that perhaps those weird little quirks that don't quite make sense on the real guns, would perhaps show the limitations of their manufacturing tech? Idk, but an interesting thought.

I wonder if Jonathan considered the submachinegun variant having less rounds in a drum magazine because it was a larger calibre.

Someone might already said this, but... "Keeper of Firearms and Artillery" is a really cool title.

I suddenly aged as soon as I saw the release date on the game tag from the description. It's already 10 years old!
