I love loading up the Tacoma then plowing through the deep snow....used to have an '03 and that thing handled load after load any time of year....I get wood all winter long, really any opportunity all year long! After 15 yrs with that truck I bought a '17 Taco and outfitted it with rear airbag suspension and power to front reciever hitch & rear for my Warn cradle....nothing better than tromping out of the woods with some nice, dry wood!

@Johnny White Personally I much prefer a smaller vehicle....less expensive in every way and nicer to use on jeep trails and tight quarters. Plus being 53 y/old filling a short bed per trip is enough and keeps it enjoyable. I use a '17 Tacoma and tow a 7 x 14 trailer for my lawn mowing business during three seasons, it's paid off and I simply don't need a full sized truck. The midsize trucks offer enough hp these days to tow a decent sized trailer and with enough load rating for me.

With the price of firewood being so high, it only makes sense to go out and cut a load if you can. I have an old F-350 crew-cab 4X4. Chainsaw I use is a Stihl o29 and an older Stihl 051 AV. They never fail to run, but be careful with the 051 because if you don't pull it just right, it can rip your fingers almost off on the recoil. Farmers gave us all the wood we needed just crank up the chain saw and get the pickup to the off road trees. Now we heat a $600,000 home stead with a $30,000. Geo I ground heat pump. Rebuilt everything over 4 decades. Taxes just based on $19,000. Sale price. In Michigan I’d you fix up an old house they do not raise your taxes until you sell it. I pay $700. A yr for a half a million home. Love Michigan. Cost of living is 1/3rd what America is if you buy in small towns.

I heat with only a wood stove in the Ohio River valley. I have never seen wood that splits so easy as what you have! I’ve got a 22 ton log splitter and occasionally it won’t go through it! Everything has to be split with a log splitter except once in a while it’s like bragging to say you split your wood here like you do there. The trees may be 75 feet tall but they have 2 dozen large limbs and another 2 dozen medium limbs causing difficult grain patterns.

David I know how you feel about people leaving their mess in the damn road, it's like they think no one else is gonna use that road. If it's like it is here there are rules to cutting in the national forest and if they get caught breaking the rules they are in trouble that's for certain. The Forest service has a wild land fire fighter school just a few miles from our place and here (My wife, Son and I ) own a mom & pop logging company and when we finish logging a block of timber (we have to leave everything the Forester Marks) and brush out and remove everything they don't mark. When it gets finished all the slash gets piled in one flat open spot and people can come harvest some of it for firewood with a permit then when it's picked thru it gets pushed back into a pile and burnt. We are required to hold to a very particular set of rules and create as small of an environmental footprint as possible and because of the particular way we choose to log we make an extremely small footprint and the Forest service and the Forester love us. Liked your video it was fun watching you do the same stuff we do except our Firewood is cut from the blocks of timber we are working in and we cut it mostly in the mid spring once the snow is all off the mountain. Otherwise we're falling trees every day it's decent enough to be out in the timber working. About the only days we don't work is bad storms, high winds and extreme cold temps. When it gets into the 85-90° temp range we fall from just at sun up till about 11 am then work at skidding or bucking at the landing till around 4 pm then we head for home and are back at it the next morning. No sense starting a fire by accident or making our saws work any harder than we already work them.

Yeah, I've got a couple of cords of 36"D green/WET (heavy) storm-fallen red oak I've got to buck, haul, and split for winter starting a year hence. I'd do it now but this old body isn't up to the job. If it (and I) are here too long I'll host a BBQ and the men can play with a splitting gun to do initial splits of the rounds and prevail upon the guests for busting the rest to stovewood. With Biden's Democrat Party inflation, we've got to get creative and quilt up for this winter ... and the next. Remember that the next time you hear somebody cheering another "stimulus" ... it's paid for by inflation. The dollar's value is like good whiskey; you can stretch the supply by watering down the supply (of money) but you can't get rid of that water and you dilute its value forever. For old folks who can no longer toil for their keep, it's a 6itch.

I don't understand people that live in such a remote area don't have some type of plow on the front of the truck you don't have to have a hitting the road as long as it is clearing about 6" in of snow all of your way out of 14" so this way as you were traveling it is helping you to push the snow out of the way of your wheels . I know myself if I lived in this type of area I would have a problem to get through even if I had a truck like what you were using to get up and back I would still try to get some of the snow out of my way with a getting myself stuck unless you having fun the better you're going to drive through it that's my opinion
