I have owned an original MINI SE for almost 4 years. I have never wished for more range. I will take the 240kg lower weight (1605 vs 1365 without driver) vs the 150km extra range (250km vs 400km) every day of the week. The next comment is very subjective and I am sure when the "new" MINI was unveiled, it would have got the same comments. It is truly ugly. OK, subjective, but the "old new" MINI was rounded, the new one seems angular at the back. All right, it isn't actually fairy tale ugly, but there is just something that looks wrong, and I can't like it (yet). The original SE was also significantly quicker than the paper suggests - 6.0s 0-60mph (with silly 0.3s 1ft rollout - so 6.3s), and 6.6s 0-100kph. This has been measured countless times. Will the J01 also have the same conservative timing? A 0-100kph in 6.0s flat will be pretty quick if the same delta applies. I doubt it seeing the power to weight is almost the same, and the weight and balance means the tyres have more to do off the line. The "old" MINI could easily handle that pace - the driving experience is second to none. Lets just hope the new one will too. Driven in isolation, I am sure that the J01 is a brilliant car. Driven after the F56 SE (without nobbled tyres) it may seem a little flat. Still a great car. Nice review, and good luck MINI!

It’s too feminine looking. I own a Mini R57 S with a 6 speed manual & what I love about my car is with the right accessories it can be transformed from a girlie car to a hardcore man car. This new one doesn’t do that. The manual transmission, plastic wheel arches, side scuttles, hood scoop, center mounted exhaust are masculine traits & they’re all gone. Even the interior looks more shopping boutique which is not the look any real man want in their ride. Minis aren’t family cars. They’re not built for practicality or to make sure car poolers can commute comfortably. Minis represented the epitome of personal fun, drivers cars for males & females. No it wasn’t suppose to be a pure boy racer but rather a slight upper scale, European handling go cart. And now it’s a generic foreign sub compact along the lines of a Fiat 500 or a GR Yaris, something it really never really competed with. It’s a shame how a bunch of pencil necks can screw up something that their loyal followers want for market trends. I predict Mini will go under in 5 years. It’s a shame.

Remember when the GR Yaris was first brought out only a few years ago and some people balked at how much that cost? I know that was expensive but it had so much changed and redone that I understood why; this Mini however, I know it's electric, but it's still unreasonably expensive for what it offers. I'd rather save the £11,000+ and have a Hyundai i20N which has similar performance; sure that has flaws and won't be as cheap to run as the electric Mini but it's hard to ignore that massive price gap. What applies to the Hyundai also applies to the petrol powered Mini. Also to bear in mind, adding options that push the electric Mini's total OTR price past £40,000 also means even bigger car road tax bills since electric cars are going to lose the benefit of not needing to pay for road tax next year, which would likely be around £600 a year (it's £190 flat rate at the moment, plus £390 for cars over £40,000 for five years, for a total of £580 for this year only, which is definitely going to go up as it has done each year for both fees).

BMW / MINI / GWM / whoever owns this hopefully is sandbagging. The original SE had 7.3s 0-100 and 6.9s 0-60 on paper, but in the real world (as tested by many people including myself), it gets 6.6s 0-100 and 6.3s 0-60mph (6.0 if you are in the states and do the silly 1ft rollout thing). In this case I doubt it, because the PWR is almost the same as the outgoing model. Maybe 6.7s is the real value after all. From 0-30mph (0-50kph) it feels *much* faster than the (even correct) figures show. The difference here is that it will be smoked off the lights, but around a corner you will wave goodbye to the other car in the rear vision mirror. A town car that does 0-100kph in 1.2s wont be any more fun than a 7s 0-100 that goes around corners (assuming you keep your license in the 1.2s car :) )

Mini , good car . Value it is not! Its a marketing mans idea of what people who are stupid would buy. 25k yes , 38k definately not. Suzuki swift sport hybrid £24k for me.

Looks disgusting how hard is it for them to just scale up the original one

This looks more like Fiat Punto than Mini Cooper. Where are the iconic looks of the previous model 😟That thing was a beaty! Even the inside looks weird with the large screen in the center and no meters or screens behind the wheel. I'm not a fan.
