Really been digging your videos bud. Top quality stuff! I'm going to be breaking in my engine as well so I'm looking forward to this process. Should be fun :) Was curious though as I've seen on forums people do hard "break in's", but they didn't put fully synthetic in till the 1000 mile mark. Does your break in process really bed the rings in that quickly?? If so, winner winner, chicken dinner 🎉

That is sounding very nice. Interesting running in technique; can’t remember how I ran in the Pinto on my kit car but certainly wasn’t like that 😊. Was half expecting to see you drop the oil; I was interested in seeing the colour / content. Hope you don’t make too much power for the class on the dyno. Looking forward to the next episode!

I actually had some clips of me dropping the oil and refilling it etc, but in all honesty, when I added them in, it really brought the pace down of what felt like an otherwise fairly snappy vid! The Oils been dropped 3 times now, and it's come out looking perfect each time with no bits in it :D

Lots of over run, I had never heard that before, I always babied my Mini engines which probably explains why they always smoked a tad even when new..... It still sounds nice and revvy ( is that a word ? ) for a stroker in fact it sounds awesome , cant wait to see it on the dyno 👍🏼
@TeamPrawnRacing

yup, going soft on them is a big cause of smokey engines. A friend once built a 1.8t and ran it in gently on fully synthetic oil, and it was the most smokey oil burning piece of crap you'd ever known! The stroker feels incredible. It still revs really freely, and the low down torque is night and day different. Very happy so far!

Hi Nick, did you use the Millers stuff 3 times or twice? Up to 25 miles, 25-125 & 125-300ish? And is the process of lots of revs, lots of overrun applicable after 125 miles too, or just for the first couple of oil changes? Also, would you recommend bleeding coolant etc. on first startup just as quick as possible and then start driving? Great video by the way
@TeamPrawnRacing

Hi Chris. 3 lots of CRO in my case yes. The over run etc. Is most important. In the first 100 miles or so, but generally continued until the 250 mark or so as it can't hurt. Coolant wise. I bleed it as best I can before first start, and take a 5L bottle of water with me on the first drive

You inspired me so much to do the same to my MK1 Cupra R, it's being built as we speak so, much appreciated for the video how to run it in properly. Amazing sounds as well. With the 3x oil changes before 300 miles, is that 3x oil filter as well?

So I guess the obvious questions are why did you need a new engine and how long did the previous ones last after being ran in like this?
@TeamPrawnRacing
3 жыл бұрын
Previous engine lasted 4 years of hard abuse, 3 of which at over 500bhp before turning it down last year for racing. It died after suffering severe fuel starvation at Silverstone earlier in the year causing a cracked block. More details in videos on the channel, take a look if you'd like to see more ☺️

ok so I NEED to ask, I heard that you shouldn't ever run mineral oil as it gunks the pickup and then you risk oil starvation etc but also why use mineral over synth for run in does it have better quality for picking up particles or any debri? thanks for the response in advance -a budding mechanic with a want for knowledge!
@TeamPrawnRacing
3 жыл бұрын
the issue is, when an engine is brand new, you're relying on the rings forming a really good seal to the bore. If there is too much protection from the off (as there is with a fully synthetic oil) the rings don't SCRAPE up and down the bore, finding their home. they'll just glide across the surface and never really find their fit in the same way. Cheap mineral oils naturally offer less protection by nature, or you can use something like Millers CRO which has additives in specially intended to aid the bedding in process

@TeamPrawnRacing

it needed extra fuel right from the start. The capacity increase was 8%, so I started by adding 8%, and removed 3 degrees of timing across the map to be safe before it goes on the dyno
