I was surprised when you said the seats were only 27" and you could barely fit at 5'11" given that I'm just fine on a Southwest plane. But then I remembered, SWA planes are only one class (so they moved the seats). So everyone else pays the price of dignity for those stretch seats. I'm 6'8" and on a typical SWA plane with 31", I'm actually fine. Better actually than most US domestic coach seats. But this whole ULCC unacceptably tiny seat model is ridiculous. I'm a pilot and I had to actually sit in the cockpit jumpseat on Frontier because their newer slim seats are even smaller than their traditional pitch... I physically could not sit back there. If I was in the middle seat, my knees were past the mid point of the tray tables on the outer seats, meaning I would require an entire row. I can see paying for bags. After all, the airline does pay more in fuel burn with more weight. So give the lighter travelers a cheaper fare. That's... fair. But I firmly believe that seat pitch should not be allowed to be less than 30". Period.

Delaware fun facts: Unlike the majority of what is now the United States, Delaware was once a SWEDISH colony called New Sweden! New Sweden was made up of settlements on both sides of the Delaware Valley, with the first being in what is now Wilmington called Fort Christina. New Sweden didn't last very long as it only existed from 1638 to 1655 due to being conquered by the Dutch. Delaware is named after the Delaware River and Bay, which in turn was named after governor of Virginia, Thomas West, Lord De La Warr by Samuel Argall in 1610. While Georgia is known as the peach state, the first state to produce peaches commercially was Delaware! That's why the state flower is the peach blossom!

Frontier only started serving Wilmington in July 2013 with flights to Chicago-Midway, Houston, Denver, Orlando, and Tampa. Fort Myers was added later in the year. Then in June 2015, they announced they would leave Wilmington, only for them to make the announcement in January 2020 that they wanted to return...I think you can see where this is going. Due to the pandemic, it was delayed but they returned in February 2021 before leaving once again in June 2022. If that doesn't show how cursed Wilmington Airport is, I don't know what will. And that's just a PART of the curse, as another airline that tried to tap into Wilmington is Skybus Airlines on March 8, 2008 with flights to Columbus and Greensboro...the airline ceased all operations not even a MONTH later on April 4!
@brendang673

Yep. I don’t know how long this will last either since Philly is so close and you could take the train from Wilmington to the airport there. Unless Avelo undercuts the fares from Frontier in Philly they’re going to struggle.
@DaWolf805

So, I know someone who works for Avelo and my understanding is the routes out of ILG are doing great. In fact, Avelo would very much like to expand their operation at the airport. However, the airport is limited by the amount of space available in the terminal - two flights cannot board, or even DEBOARD, at the same time, because there's only room for one planeload of passengers and only one wheelchair-capable ramp. The demand is there, but the infrastructure is not up to par.
@bostonrailfan2427

sounds like Worcester, MA which has had huge issues trying to get service but always ends up having flights cut! and the sad thing is the airport is operated by their competitor airport so there’s zero incentive for them to get airlines since they have them already in Boston
@DaWolf805
11 ай бұрын
@@bostonrailfan2427 Worcester has a different issue, which is that it's foggy like 200 days out of the year at that airport. From what I understand the facilities there are actually quite nice, and Massport has surprisingly done a decent job at making the airport suitable by building autoland-capable infrastructure to counteract the fog. Unfortunately, most low-cost airlines are not certified to autoland, because it's expensive and complicated to get (and stay) certified. So the airport will never be as popular with the low-cost market as it could be without that, and mainline airlines tend to abandon secondary cities easily whenever times get tough for them.

Love your enthusiasm for air travel. When flying (especially for leisure) I consider my airline choice an important part of the trip. I enjoy flying but with an airline that really wants to make that flight as good as it can possibly be. I've been a loyal Delta Air Lines customer for decades primarily because I live in Metro Atlanta and because I think Delta is a well run airline. Flying on a low cost carrier concerns me because I'm concerned that an airline might be cutting corners with safety. It was about time for all of us who live in southern Delaware( Lewes, Rehoborh Beach, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, ocean View, Fenwick Island, etc, etc) to have an airline that we can count on, and stop having to “travel” to commute for two straight hours to Philadelphia international airport, or two hours and 30 minutes to BWI in Maryland, or even three hours or more to Reagan international airport in DC, or Dulles international airport in Loudon County Virginia. What we, all residents living in Delaware also need tremendously, is to have what Pittsburg, PA has: an international airport terminal together and next to an air force base(Pittsburgh international airport), specifically in Dover(Dover air force base),the capital city of the state, which is geographically located exactly in the middle of the whole state. That’s pure convenience for everybody, and no one in the whole state has to commute or travel to a different state’s International airport to “catch a plane” anymore. You could include part of your older videos that mentioned the plane itself, rather than specific service on specific carriers... for ex. Why is Boing not making any more? What airline used almost only 747s for years? Was 747s popular among pilotes...or not? How many are still on commercial use today? Was there ever a 747 Airforce One? How much would it cost to buy one on the open market... if you have a lot of extra money ruzzling in your pocket? Do YOU like the 747? How about Suzanne? ...and so on! ...and how about Wilmington, do they have a runway long (or wide) enough for a 747?

Yeah, CT's 2 commercial airports, New Haven and Hartford's, are both expanding. In the past, I had thought that there are a few states which don't have cities major enough to contain a commercial airliner airport, I'd wondered that about Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and North and South Dakota. But Burlington Vermont, Manchester N.H., Portland Maine, Fargo N.D., and Sioux Falls S.D. each have a commercial airport. Delaware was the only state which didn't have a city with commercial airliner flights in and out of there. However, most of the above mentioned cities' airports don't have international flights, not overseas to Europe anyway. Most probably have flights to Canada, especially since each of those places are in the northern U.S.

I took the Breeze inaugural out of Vero Beach back north the next day - zero festivities whatsoever... but I think they did the press event on the 2nd or 3rd day of actual service. I'm excited about the Avelo ILG service, and will be in RDU in two weeks for their base opening there.

Did they refund your $35 because you didn't get the seats you picked? Because they should. Otherwise it's theft. I.e. Taking money for service they didn't provide.

I'd like to know the answer to that question too. ???

$35 is more than a lot of people's hourly wage. It's robbery...Sadly, those aren't usually refundable. I would've talked to the CEO about it.....

I don't fly Spirit, I don't fly Frontier and I won't fly Avelo (which flies to BWI as well). I don't like being nickel and dimed. I think their business strategy is smart--flying to/from tertiary airports which are easy to navigate and may charge lower facility fees. I just don't need that for myself, personally.

I really like Breeze's business model. You can go true ULC, but if you pay their "nicer" fair, you get a ton of freebies and a better seat with more room. If you go "nicer" the deal is often much better than paying a la carte. But if you just want ULC, you can. And the "nicest" first class is attainable for most people.

With all fees you paid $153 one way. I flew Southwest R/T from Philly to Orlando in January and paid $232 R/T. I wouldn’t take it, just my opinion. Great video though

He's the one that chose priority boarding @ $15, and then$35 for seat selection, yet ended up getting a regular seat 🥴, anyway . that's an additional $50. It would have actually been 200 something ,$210 ,or whatever , round trip.

Avelo should take some of the former SWA 737 300s. As of now, like 15 of them are parked in the desert in near-mint condition. The last time I was on one was in 2017, and it was really well kept for an older plane.

Pilot here - I know a few guys flying for Avelo. All-in-all they’ve been happy so far. Levy is a decent guy & has done a great job with management/crew relationships so far. Rooting for Avelo’s success!

I have already taken Avelo 4 times. I am in central Oregon and fly to Burbank. Avelo constantly has email sales with up to 55% off. I just wish they would start having east to west flights. It would be worth the price even with 2-3 layovers.

Avelo should add flights from BWI to Sarasota. They currently do fly from BWI but only to Wilmington North Carolina and New Haven.

southwest would kick their ass...The idea is secondary/tertiary airport into primary airport, in this case ILM/HVN into the Baltimore/DC metro. SRQ flights would be drawing from the Baltimore metro, which is not what Avelo is trying to do.

We had Avelo in Arizona twice - from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway and Tucson, both times flying to Burbank. Both times, they pulled out, likely becAAuse of stiff competition in the “Southwest” 😉
