I'm from the UK but I've been in Erbil, Kurdistan for a year teaching English. I can confirm that Erbil is a great place to be. The people are friendly, generous and sincere. The food is good. The weather is mostly warm/hot and sunny. There are some great parks, Sami Park is huge. There are all the modern malls you could want. (Family Mall is massive) there's no beach but there are some nearby rivers that you can swim in, the water is crystal clear. There are even night clubs too and excellent restaurants that are reasonably priced. Most people have a grasp of basic English but just learn some basic words and expressions and you'll be fine. I'm having a great time here. You can walk around late at night and you feel safe - I feel safer here than I do in London! There are other nice places to visit nearby - Shaqlawa and Akre are good. The pound goes a long way here. I would recommend Erbil to anyone!
