The torque split is interesting. Since my car is rear wheel drive, I had to tell that gauge to stay a 0 or RWD. Thanks to a local G37x owner, I have recorded his CAN bus and played it back on my test bench, and it is interesting to see how much and often it changed the front wheel torque.

Hi Frank, how are you? Is there any news on the GTR gauges project on the 370Z screen?
@MotorvateDIY
4 ай бұрын
I'm not sure which project you are asking about, so I'll mention both: The GTR gauges for the G37, should work on the 370, as long as it is a 2010-2017 and has navigation. Local beta testing will confirm this. The non-nav / stand alone GTR "look a like" screen is planned, but no software development has started yet. Required hardware has been purchased and it waiting for me :) For the next little while, my free time is dedicated to getting the GTR gauges out for local testing, plus a few smaller products. (G37 gear position indicator, AFS off module, etc)

@@MotorvateDIY Do you expect this to also work on a G37 without Nav?
@MotorvateDIY
Жыл бұрын
Sorry, but no. This requires the hardware and software of the navigation system (known as the 08IT) There is a kit that can help you upgrade your non-nav to nav, but the total cost can be expensive: www.owc-upgrades.com/product-page/g37-navigation-harness-adapter-kit-upgrade-2010-15-q40-q60-g37-to-2010-15-nav

The gear efficiency is interesting. I assume that only works for autos since the manual doesn't have the gear position sensor from the Z. I wonder how hard that would be to add.
@MotorvateDIY
Жыл бұрын
That video was shot in my 6 speed manual G37. If you listen carefully you can hear the typical slight gear whine. I figured out a way to calculate the current gear, then send the required CAN bus message to show the current gear!! Just like I did here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/2Iejk2uZsaGdoGk I have also made it work for the 7 speed auto in the G/Z, but since I have no way of showing 7th gear (GTR has a 6 speed DCT), I just send the CAN bus message for 6th, even when in 7th. I'm glad you noticed that... When I saw that it worked on the GTR and the cool animation, it made my day!

This is awesome, I live in New Zealand and have a JDM V36 2009 370GT Skyline RWD sedan with nav. I wonder if this will work for me? my whole infotainment system is in Japanese but otherwise its the same hardware? I track my car so this would be a godsend for me. I would rather not have gaudy aftermarket gauges for oil pressure/temp ect
@MotorvateDIY
Жыл бұрын
That's a good question! I don't have a lot of details on the JDM nav unit, so I am not sure. Typically the JDM stuff is more advanced than what we get in North America, so there might be a chance. For North America, the newer nav system started in 2010, and has a higher screen resolution of 800 x 480, vs 400 x 240. Does the text on your screen look a little "blocky" and you can clearly see the square pixels? I'll do some digging to understand the differences. For the non-nav or older nav cars, I do have future plans to make a small 1" x 2.5" OLED LCD dispaly to show just engine oil temp, oil pressure, and coolant temp. As I see it, every VQ37 owner should want to keep an eye on engine oil pressure/temperature to keep the motor alive a long time as the oil gallery gaskets can quickly kill a great engine!

@@MotorvateDIY from what I can tell everything looks identical to all the USDM G37 nav units I have seen just in Japanese
@MotorvateDIY
Жыл бұрын
That's good... but it there can be changes that can't be detected until you disassemble the AV unit and examine the circuit board. For example, starting in mid-2012, the MusicBox function was removed and as a result, the "MagicGate" IC was also removed from the main board, and the software was changed. Does your car have a USB port? If not, I don't think it will work with the GTR gauges.

@@MotorvateDIY Understood. Fast refresh rate for the gauges will be more important than anything else to make it usable, even if that means that some sensors will need to be removed or pit to sleep.

Agreed! Right now, I think it is a communication speed issue, not a hardware/screen update issue. If required I can break up one task to 2 RTOS tasks. (CAN read / CAN write) I'll use this week to make the updates and then test it again next weekend.

Fixed the Gauge response issue and it is now MUCH faster!! In the first version of code, it was only sending updates TWICE per second. Now it is 10 times per second, so the next in car test should be much quicker.

@@MotorvateDIY Cool. I was just thinking it also may be the screen itself since it's not exactly designed for this. I was already looking at ebay to take one apart and see if the screen is upgradable. Do you know by chance if it's a pretty standard screen connection? I also have access to tons of screens for my work (chromebooks).
@MotorvateDIY

The screen is VERY non-standard. It uses a 2 wire "GVIF" or gigibit video interface and only Sony makes the chips for it.
