First the ACS-64 City Sprinters, then the SC-44 Chargers, we all knew it would be a matter of time until Siemens' long-distance passenger locomotive would debut. ALC-42 class leader 300 was towed in the middle of June 2021 from California to Washington D.C. to commence trials on the North East Corridor before more of the fleet entered service. This marks the beginning of the end for Amtrak's iconic GE P42DC "Genesis" series locomotives, probably by the end of the decade. The future of Amtrak seems bright as we are about embark on a period of transition on the railroad once again, and I feel lucky to be trackside to witness it.
