I just finished watching another review, and was looking for a more honest opinion. Immediately after that I saw this video in my reccomended Thanks for the great review!

I really wanted one of these, but there was another engine that I wanted more and was less expensive. I'll look at getting one in the future.

BLI Smoke Units not working properly... at this point, I should just expect it.

I'd probably wait for a Stealth series version to warrant getting one.

Agreed, or a remanufactured one and remove the smoke unit. Overall a great quick review. Btw, is anyone doing the Rexall version? If not, if Broadway would do an unpainted stealth (no sound, DC) version, I'd buy 3!

#1 Roundhouse #2 Roco (if you pause video you can see "Austria" underneath which means these were made by Roco for the American market) #3 and #4 Definitely Athearn #5 and #6 Mantua. Underside of trucks are dead giveaway. Tyco would be truck mounted whereas Mantua was their more prototypical modeler line with body mounted coupling. As for the Commodore, I'll wait for these to show up in Broadway's Refurb Store so I can not only get a better price but have another round of quality control ensuring these will have no issues.

All, since I'm a historian, I want to clear up a VERY common misconception about the Commodore Vanderbilt (and the "Dr." in "Doctor Hobby" is thanks to my PhD. in history ;) ). The Commodore Vanderbilt WAS NOT the first streamlined steam engine. The Europeans were far ahead of the U.S. in streamlining. The French came out with several that were at least semi- or mostly streamlined (such as number 220 of the 2750 series, Heilmann locomotives, particularly the second one [although this was a steam-electric locomotive, I think the "steam" part of it counts as steam]) all before 1900. The Prussian Class S9 No. 561, although experimental, can certainly said to be streamlined by distinct design (although it does look ugly). I think the confusion comes from the term "Streamliner" vs. "streamline." The Commodore Vanderbilt was the first _Streamliner_ steam engine of the _Streamliner_ Era, which lasted from the early 1930s until the mid-1950s, or so; however, this doesn't make it the first _streamlined_ steam engine where "streamlined" refers to any type of modifications or designed outer skins that helped a locomotive cut through the wind more easily.

if you can, it would be interesting to get a model of the Bavarian S2/6, my favorite streamlined engine (although its technically airsmooth and not streamlined)

I am still considering purchase this one but not sure yet. Upper body looks too plasticky to me. I collected some box cars already but loco does not look great for the price tag.

Was that a real NYC paint scheme or one created by Trainworld? Just wondering. Could some of those cars be MDC (Roundhouse)?

Quick Question: It says that these are ready to run on 18" radius tracks, do they still run fine on 15"?

I use my commodore to haul 12 walthers lighted passenger cars. this shouldn't be having as much trouble as it is to pull those boxcars. Clip a gram scale to the coupler, like a manual spring scale, as throttle to stall (or slip) and see what you get. The K4 streamline PRR engine pulls 340ish, and the bigboy paragon 3 would do 420 before I sent it in, 240 when I got it back from bli (they nerfed the motor). I've not tested my 6-8-6, nor the 2 commodore that I have (one is a pacemaker)
