You know, I’m not a huge fan of the way this car looks, but the different thinking and the rejection of automotive normalcy in this design really makes me appreciate Hyundai and Kia more and more with each new vehicle they come out with. They’re super realistic with what they can do with each and every one of their designs and not overcharge people while still giving them tons of features, but still take risks and are bold and unapologetically themselves. Genuinely the Korean manufacturers are taking over and I for one am a massive fan.

Thats what made me fall in love with the Ioniq 5 too, the rejection of normalcy but yet its still very much a car without being too wild. I'm now interested to see what the Kia version is gonna look like. Because you KNOW there will be one and it'll be as different as the Ionic 5 and the EV6 is.

Whilst they are starting to change but between 2010-2020 basically every bmw looked the same and every audi looked the same. Honda's of the last decade have looked similar, and as much as I love Mazda, Mazda keeps a very consistent design between cars. Whilst I don't thing there is anything wrong with having a consistent and design between models, keeping all models looking the same with quite bland designs for a whole decade is far, far too boring. I think Hyundai group is leading the way in regards to innovative design. Modern German cars look amazing but they aren't innovative or special. I think a lot of a lot of Japanese vehicles now are bland and becoming outdated.

As a long time Saab-fan (I owned 7 Saab cars from the 1987 Saab 900 to the 2011 Saab 9-3X) and a current Ioniq Electric user I really love this car because it reminds me of the early Saab 92 car streamlined shape. I prefer really efficient, low power consumption cars with good dynamics, and the first Ioniq almost fulfills that (a bit more turbo-feeling could make it perfect). As far as I see the Ioniq 6 will have more than enough power and torque, yet could be quite battery-saver because of the extremely good cW. I really love how Hyundai optimized the shape. Love the new Ionic 6. Shame the front is not as sexy as the concept. I bet the customizers with soon turn that mass market version back into the original concept design, which was just stunning. Now make the Ionic 1. One person, affordable, desirable, commuter machine that can go on the motor way. Ionic 2. 2 person, affordable, sporty, city friendly. Ionic 3 Desirable small hatch back. Ionic 4 scaled down by a third, cheaper ionic 5. Etc..... We need small affordable, yet desirable, electric cars for the masses. I love the new Hyundai design language, they are years in front of the competition. Can´t wait for them to produce a desirable, reasonably priced electric car, that is a bit smaller for European cities. All of their current electric offerings are just too big. Smaller is lighter and thus more economical & efficient. Why are all electric car manufacturers only focusing on the top end of the market and obsessed with big suv´s and luxury saloons. Please make a smaller ionic 5, that can fit into a average European city parking space and can go down narrow streets. Cars are getting bigger yet city infrastructure is not.

It makes sense to have a digital rear view mirror for big trucks where you might have your vision obscured by a trailer or objects in the bed of the car. But the thing that worries me is if the software breaks down at all, or the camera gets damaged, or water gets into the camera or any of the other miriad of things that could be wrong you are now looking at a costly repair. A lot of things make sense to be digital, but why re-create the mirror digitally, when you can just have a mirror? IDK. I appreciate what they’ve done here. However I’m not sure who this would appeal to. If the front light were round/oval shaped then that would make the whole car have a nostalgic theme. I hope it does well so they can improve the design further in the next generation otherwise we will be overwhelmed with SUVs/ crossovers

Excellent presentation. Great to be able to hear the head of the design team share his philosophy on so many questions. And your bringing Raymond Loewy into the conversation was both brilliant and apropos. Loving the Ioniq 6. Having owned six Teslas so far, this is the first hint of real competition for the 3 and Y, in my view. Mercedes, Porsche and maybe Lucid have provided alternatives to the Tesla Model S, but not head-to-head competition. I think many people will cross shop this car with the smaller Teslas. The looks of the Ioniq 6 are striking. 30 years or so ago I had a 911, and the roof to rear lines of this car, as well as the haunches, really do a great job reprising that vibe. I also see some early '70s Z-car (Datsun, now Nissan) influence in some of the front angles. I have been a Hyundai and Kia supporter since 2011. In general, I have been very impressed by their design and engineering since that model year, and the Genesis since 2007. I predict huge success for this model.

I love how free Hyundai designers are, the Chinese manufacturers as well. Certainly compared to a GM of Ford truck designer.

Let's not forget the German designers who work for BMW, Merc, Audi, and especially Porsche. Those mofos been churning out identical designs for years all for the sake of "keeping that heritage look". What a load of horseshite!

get side views of both cars next to each other and you'll see very quickly how that isnt true. very different proportions. imo, it mimiks the 2006 mercedes cls 63 amg, which is a very good looking car that looks much newer than it is.

probably one of those "need to see it in person" cars like the C8 or supra as well...seeing them in a vid is one thing, in for real is quite another! its just like some people look great in pics and not so much when u meet them or vise versa...Others look not good in a pic, not photogenic but look really attractive when u meet for real.

I suspect Hyundai are already looking into this, but with the advances in camera and screen technology one major safety selling point would be to provide a 'blind spot elimination' system. There are already monitoring systems to see where a driver is looking, and this could allow screen wraps on the A B and C pillars to project an image so that the car structure effectively disappears. The only issue might be that passengers could find it rather disturbing to have a floating 'disconnect' image - so again, the driver eye monitoring would need to be able to judge when the images are required.

I'm cirious about height room. At 6'6" (198.12 cm approx.) I'm curious about whether someone can fit behind me with enough leg room to comfortably fit. As a taller man, I find it difficult to locate a vehicle to accommodate longer legs or larger body types.
