lived in Hainerberg for 2 years in the late 80s. the abandoned strip mall was the old BX, PIZZA PLACE AND AUDIO STEREO STORE. The movie house in the parking lot was the TAUNUS movie house and i saw TOP GUN there in 1986 . there was a baked potato stand that sold the best tasting potatoes, A BOOK STORE ,AND the American Express bank.

I remember as a kid in the mid to late 80's the now abandoned strip mall that is near the theater was the heart and soul of everyday life back in the day! Lived across the street from Hainerberg elementary school and a few years later lived in Crestview. Enjoyed the video and thanks for the trip down memory lane!

In the 80's we used to walk down for lunch when I was in middle and high school or if there was a bomb threat. Shocked to see the theater still there. I saw a lot of great movies there and at Lee Barracks.

Wow! Thank you for this awesome video, my father was a civilian (GS) assigned to Worms Germany from 81 to 88 where i went to High School in Mannheim. GO Bison "85!!!" So i was wondering if one day you can drive down to Worms Germany & walk the old Takkunen Barracks & Thomas Jefferson Village (TJV), These areas are now closed and reclaimed by Germany.. I would love a memory jolt if you should happen to find yourself in the area of Worms Germany. Its about 35 to 40 Kilometers South of Wiesbaden, because every 2 weekends a month we'd drive up to Mainz (for the huge awesome Audio shop they had in the 80s), then drive to the Wiesbaden PX bcuz there was a Godfathers Pizza there!!! Ah.... the good ole'days!!!

Lol I was stationed at Lee Barracks, Mainz 1974 to 1977.. We would all go to Wiesbaden because they had the large commissary and a huge selection of Electronics. I bought mostly the top of the line stereo equipment. thru time it all became obsolete except for the 110 watt Altech speaker I still have.

Hehe, the Marktkirche in Wiesbaden actually is relatively new. Built in the 19th century it was however based on the Neogothic architecture style. So compared to several other cathedrals and churches in Germany it's still a kid, bordering on just becoming a teen.

What can you say the big difference and pros and cons better Wiesbaden, Kaiserslautern and Stuggart? I watched your other videos as well. I'm curious how they are. I have 3 offers from all 3 places. Thank you!
@DTVDanielTelevision
7 ай бұрын
Ouu lots to say about this one. I'd have to do a whole video that explains the differences, but it comes down to your personal preferences. For me, I would choose Wiesbaden because of how close it is to the airport (we love to travel), and it's not as congested as "lil America" in Kaiserslautern, nor does it have as much traffic as Stuttgart. Stuttgart is very spread out and basically located within a huge city with many highways, speed traps, and construction. But there are advantages to living there. K-Town doesn't really feel like living in Germany (to me) because of all the American amenities, but on the flip side, you'll find all types of various foods, shopping, and right outside of the city there's lots of hiking, castles, and fun day trips!

Thanks for watching! Congrats on your new assignment :) I don't know too many neighborhoods outside of this area, but honestly the closer you are to downtown the better in my opinion. There's a lot to do in the city and you're super close to base, many airports, as well as the train station (that can take you anywhere in Europe). Maybe check with this civilian FB group in Wiesbaden for advice: facebook.com/groups/516236829299114/

Is there a hospital there? When my ex-husband and I were stationed in Frankfurt in 1974-77 we had access to the 97th General Hospital and that's also where I worked. We had the intensive care nursery for the European command and the middle east. I worked in the Orthopedic Clinic and I believe the 97th was the Ortho hospital for the European command as well. My ex worked at AFN as a master control operator. The 97th and AFN are long gone in fact I don't know if there is any American military left in Frankfurt. That was a wonderful time in my life and an experience I will never forget. Thanks for letting me reminisce! I asked you in a previous post about the bratwurst/brochen stands because there used to be one right across the street from the AFN building.
