The incredible thing about Zo is that he was really undersized (by 3" and 50 lbs) compared to Shaq BUT he didn't fear Shaq and went toe-to-toe with him, chest to chest, bump per bump, hit per hit, elbow per elbow, forearm per forearm.💪💪

Zo would get posturized from time to time, but he never left the paint. He played like a skilled big man, even though he was a power-forward sized man in that day and age.

With the addition of these 2 beast HOFers in the 92 draft, started a 4 year stretch (1992-96) of the greatest stretch of prime franchise HOF C play in NBA history.

This is a clear testament to how much the NBA game has changed. Look at HOW VASTLY DIFFERENT the games are of the latest modern day rivalry between blue chip rookie big men, Chet and Wemby. From pounding and grinding in the 90's to pace and space nowadays. Although Chet was drafted a season before Wemby, Chet is technically still a rookie because he sat out his 1st season.

Impressed by Mourning’s scrappiness. He doesn’t have Ewing’s shooting touch-not even close-but he puts his nose into it on defense, is good for a 2nd or 3rd jump, and has quick hands, which I never really noticed before.

Mourning was a power forward playing center.
@Mr94Integra

he averaged over 21 points, 10 boards and three blocks per game in his first eight seasons before his kidney disease. How many centers in the 80's and 90's did that? The Admiral, Patrick Ewing and The Dream were the other centers in the 80s and 90s to achieve that.

@@Mr94Integrathat's what I tell people. Mourning was incredible and he was still maybe the 4th or 5th best center back then, that's how stacked the center position was

It's not a matter of height, it's about having the mindset to play at a position. He was shorter than the best centers of that era but he was really good and made for that too. He was almost trying each time to block shots, no matter who were the players on the other side.
@mr.towler4780

I think because he can't defend perimeter too good as well as his blocking that led to fastbreaks. He was better fit for a center. The jump shot throws people off but that's his shot selection against bigger centers, the shot will always be open got him.

This dunk @ 1:23 over Larry Johnson and then Alonzo Mourning is incredible! Shaq was about 280 at this time and little body fat and he just gathers and power jumps and soars in, throwing it down with authority. Just incredible.
