Hey Mark, I just brought my p3x home from the bike shop and found your channel while looking for advice on how to disassemble and pack the bike for traveling. Would love a video on that. Best of luck in your races. My definition of success: no crashes, no mechanicals, no flats.

"Rock hard and unsettling..." best describes my P5X. But is it fast! When you speed up, I feel the power is magnified through the bike, that's why it feels like a jack rabbit with a down hill or a tailwind, and a turtle going up hills. Thanks for the review.

Indeed the riding tactics as a heavy rider are different than light riders. I am a heavy rider, my bike mates are twigs. I crush them on descents (in order to build momentum) and then they catch me up on the climb. Then pass me on the climb. Then wait at the top of the hill for me to finish the climb.

Hi Mark - Great channel and your bike looks like something Batman would have in the garage/batcave.. Just a thought, if you ever find that you have to put the tube in your tyre because the Dynaplug option is too small to fix, there is a good chance that your tyre may have ripped... If that is the case it may be worth getting a tyre boot to slip in between the tube and the tyre which will see you home. Feel free to ignore, just thought I would mention as I run Tubeless and carry one with me... Failing that a Gel wrapper would do the trick but again, its something you may not have to hand.. Like you, I would rather have and not need. Great Channel - really love what you are doing with it. Good luck in 2021 👍

Saw a Chris Horner'tip for his tire repair pack. Wrap a piece of Duct Tape (not sure what the Queen calls it over there) around each tire lever. Then during the fix put the tape on damaged part of the tire to seal it up proper. Chris does a great demo on his channel. Cheers.

Appreciate your self-deprecating sense of humor! You have to get a Darth Vader outfit to match the bike! I did my first tri in 1987. At that point in life, I had been a scholarship distance runner. I remember the last bit on the bike thinking that the run was coming, and I was gonna own all these people. I got off the bike and almost immediately realized I was not. Wobbly legs. That error never happened again. Sorry, I had to share, when you told your story, it reminded me of my youth!

Hi Mark, Staying smooth, relaxed & not going into the red on the bike is key to preserve the running legs. This takes quite a bit of practise. You could also move the cleats back a bit on the shoes to preserve the calves. Also the Xlab torpeedo bottle system is the least rattly aftermarket hydration system I've been able to find. Looking forward to following your journey.

Congrats on the race, doing bloody well. Something to just say is that when your P3 isnt in use ideally you'd leave the gears in the smallest chainring at the front and the smallest (fastest) at the back. This will stop your chain from being stretched and improve its lifespan. Keep up the content mate, really enjoying it.

Bought mine in January 2020 when they launched it in Australia 🇦🇺but it’s not a light bike compared to some others brand this is due to that very thick frame , I have the same this is the mid range for the tyre I ride Pirelli cinturato 700x26 and speed play pedals .

Mark, I use extended display mode on my garmin and it took me a few races to get it where I wanted it. Initially I set up my watch to track my multi-sport and then used the garmin edge to show me detailed power from my vector 3's. However, I found two problems: 1. by the time I got to T1, the pedals and headset had gone to sleep. 2. Another time, I set everything to stay awake and it drained the battery on the pedals. Solution: connect my pedals to my garmin watch and use extended display. As I approached the bike in T1, I heard beeps as the headset woke up, my pedals also woke up. The display on my watch changed (once I hit my lap button to indicate end of the run) to what I needed it see for the bike, and I didn't have to think about anything. Not sure about a solution for the rear radar but I do get a reading from my eTap gears so I can even see what gear I am in at any time (surprisingly useful). Great series of vids: really enjoy them.

Good shout - I have just upgraded to a Fenix 6. Not done a race with it yet, but its all setup. Power meters are linked to my watch and I have the screens set up so I can see the data on the Edge (as well as my Di2 gearing etc). Just make sure sensors are synced with the watch and then have an appropriate screen that can be seen on the edge. Simple

With regards the head unit, you can also show the route profile which allows you to measure your efforts rather than reacting to the road. That will be useful for the Ironman. Great effort on the result.

Agree, bike fit will be a big benefit. Typically a twitchy front needs more weight and moving FORWARD will open up your thighs and help circulation and power output. Great video though.

It is cool bike. In my opinion, you should get another cheap bike with clip-on bars , to improve your bike handling skills and to use it in bad wheater. You want to keep that Cervelo mainly for race days. I would get a cheap bike with Shimano R7000 and rim breaks and set the same seating positions.

Hi Mark. Great videos. I am also doing Hamburg. I will also be using my P3X. The unstable nature of the bike is the water on the aero bars. I have made adjustments to my P3X to make it Handel better. Might be of some interest.

Congrats, averaging over 32km on the bike for 45km is a good effort, as for the pacing, if I were u I would change the cassette to a slightly bigger one, just to help with the hills,( I guess u have 11-28t?) u will still have your top end speed :)
@zanecoates7082

Yeah this is solid advice, getting yourself a 30 or 32 tooth big ring at the back is hugely beneficial for having a slightly faster cadence up the hills. Saves you grinding quite as much.

@@MarkLewisfitness In terms of wear, yes, you'll be fine. Before you do it confirm the max cog your rear derailleur can accommodate. In my experience Shimano rear derailleurs are fine with 2 cogs larger than max spec (ie. a 32 tooth on a max 30 tooth derailleur). When you install the new cassette just confirm you still have the appropriate bends in the chain around the upper and lower pulley. If the chain is too short it will pull that into a straight line. Park Tool has great how-to videos.

@@MarkLewisfitness Hi Mark, changing cassette is real easy to do, unfortunately u will require a new chain as well, has it will need to be slightly longer, so I wouldn't change the cassette until u need a new chain, or u could keep the old cassette and chain together to use on a flat race
@stijndeklerk
3 жыл бұрын
@@MarkLewisfitness Personally The lengths I cut my chains at, will accommodate 11-28 to 11-32, never had a problem. Also I rotate 4 chains and 3 cassettes and just keep track of chainwear and not so much which cassette goes with which chain. Judging by your toys in the backgroup you might be intrested looking into hot chain waxing (I use Molten speed wax), it keeps the drivetrain super clean and efficient and it's cheap. I'd say its on a par with going tubeless, in terms of overall improvement.

Mark, loving the channel, just watched your piece about your duathalon. I'm considering this same event when thiings are more "normal" next year. Can you recommend how you approached this as a Duathalon novice and what are your recommendations for others wanting to step up from just running or cycling....currently not sure I can afford a Cervelo PX3 or what ever the version is now! But also am aiming at being just above average!

you clearly are a powerful athlete (by you running) but that 100kg must be brutal on the bike. I myself weigh 85 (I think i have more than 15kg of fat to loose) and despite having some t-rex shaped legs, hills can be quite brutal and Im usually not able to do them fast across them over longer distances

Anyway my 2020 bicycle average speed for 1400 miles was 20.1mph, and I ride a 12 yr old 10kg Alu bike using Ultegra 6600 touring X3 front chain ring group set and £165 Fulcrum aluminium 35mm training aero wheels with continental tubeless tyres. Admittedly I am not 6ft 6in, I am 5ft 9.5in & 11 stones with a 28.5 inch waist. Still, I think we’re both doing great..;-)..& I can say things don’t stop at 50, just be sure to sleep early enough is the secret.;-).go go go..
