Once, when Freddie was asked why the performed, he said, for the money darling. He was in his "talking to interviewers" mode where he frequently used wise-cracks. Freddie also said that their greatest goal was to entertain their fans, and he didn't give a ... what the critics said. What's really amazing is that Freddie was diagnosed with nodules on his vocal cords in 1975. Those made it painful for him to sing and made the high notes very difficult, which is why Roger Taylor started filling those in. He could have had surgery to remove them, but he was afraid that it would change his voice so he endured the pain because he loved performing.

Queen always gets a pass plus some Queen trivia. Did anyone notice the single tear that feel from Freddie's left eye at 5:50 in the video? I always wondered whether the lyrics and how Freddie was always searching for a true partner affected him while singing at that moment. Freddie's forever love was Mary Austin, however, he was attracted to men and wanted that same feeling male partner but knew it would never happen. Freddie also wrote several songs about Mary Austin, the most notable of which is “Love of My Life”. In a 1985 interview, Mercury said of Austin, “All my lovers asked me why they couldn’t replace Mary, but it’s simply impossible. The only friend I’ve got is Mary and I don’t want anybody else. To me, she was my common-law wife. To me, it was a marriage. We believe in each other, that’s enough for me.” In the 2012 biography Mercury: An Intimate Biography of Freddie Mercury, he's quoted saying, "All my lovers asked me why they couldn't replace Mary, but it's simply impossible. I couldn't fall in love with a man the same way I did with Mary". To be so well loved by fans but still miss having that one special love for yourself. How sad for Freddie. Maybe, that's why he loved his fans so much. RIP, Freddie. We haven't forgotten you. Your music and voice lives on and on and on.

What a lot of the younger generation fail to realize is that auto tune and pitch correction that those who sing today would never sing live with out was not invented until 1997 so that makes Freddie's vocals even more impressive because it is so pure compared to the enhanced and manipulated vocals you hear live and in the studios from today's artists. He was one in a billion and im sure i will never see another Freddie in my life time.

LayedBakDFR, you have asked a couple times whether Freddie was on drugs, it's my understanding that he did NOT use them before or during performances as a general rule, especially in the early days, he did coke, pot and I'm sure ludes being as prevalent as they were in the early 70's Freddie would have indulged (Freddie indulged in life whatever that may include, wink) . Don't think for one moment though, that his intensity, stage presence, or vocals weren't "natural". He was a shy individual that came alive on stage, much like Michael Jackson. I think he went through a period when they were over in Germany recording that he did a lot of partying and the mates had to tell him to get his shit together, which he did. Freddies not here to ask so it's always hand me down info.

Not sure why American reviewers always seem find that single bottle of Heinekin so fascinating - is Heinekin some sort of 'thing' in the US? They always mention it, with astonishment. I thought it was just a regular, common-or-garden old German lager beer. Just curious. The array of drinks were mostly for Freddie's voice - I don't recall the exact list of contents, but, I think it was Peter Hince (the roadie who delivers up and collects Freddie's mike with such precision) says somewhere in his book what they were; always the same three items at every show. One was warm water and honey, one was plain water, and I've forgotten the other one. Maybe it was beer. The sip he takes near the end of this song would def have been to refresh and prepare the pipes for those vocal pyrotechnics to come. As I understand it, Queen have rarely if ever performed drunk or stoned, etc - they were much too professional for that. They may have had some wild parties back in the day, but they really believed/still believe in giving a great show, above all else. A calming cocktail before going on with the odd sip of something during the sometimes two-hours-or-more-long shows was about their limit, I believe. Unless someone knows better? :-)

This is my all-time favorite by Queen. Freddie Mercury loved Aretha Franklin and if you listen to the original video of this song, it’s quite a bit different than hearing it live. It’s still awesome but it brings tears to my eyes and it doesn’t sound as much rock. Freddy was inspired by Aretha Franklin and absolutely loved her and this song was written about finding somebody to love and his own life and really inspired by Aretha’s gospel singing. If you haven’t seen the original video, you’ve got to see it and I guarantee you it’ll put A tear in your eyes but yet you’ll be amazed at his vocals in that chorus. THAT CHORUS LINE❤️❤️❤️

The back story to Freddy's "half' mic stand: In the early days of Queen, (fairly shortly after Freddy joined the band when they were called, "Smile,"), during one of their performances, the (full) mic stand broke and Freddy, (being the true amazing front man/performer he was), knew that "the show must go on," (see what I did there?! 😜), so he went with it, finishing their set with the broken mic stand in hand. It then went on to become his signature. Love your reaction vids!! You show a tremendous amount of respect when watching. Just discovered you and have only seen one other reaction vid of yours to Queen at Live Aid, (wildly considered to be the best live performance by a band...ever.) And considering Queen was NOT even part of the original lineup, were a late addition AND, that audience of over 70,000 people weren't solely Queen fans, (though they likely all LEFT as Queen fans!), it makes his performance even more stunning. Freddy was an absolute musical genius who was surrounded by the right band mates/musicians, who only fostered his immense talents and complimented him beautifully and perfectly. They were pure magic. Keep your vids coming!! Peace & love everyone! ❤
