Heck yeah, Shad! I'm glad that you enjoyed riding the HAWK27 wheels! That stick in the spokes is a great representation of how our spokes protect your bike and wheels against stuff like that!

Damn I didn’t realize Berd was just up in the twin cities area! Right up from the road from me (Rochester). I’ve been wanting to try these wheels out!

Have you tried any of the waist/hip hydration packs? Curious if they would be much cooler...my osprey was soaked in sweat today and yesterday.

I tried an Osprey about a year ago and I couldn't get it to stay up in a comfortable spot on my hips. Especially when it was full of water. So I gave it away. I just run a regular hydration pack and it's always been the way to go for me. I often carry GoPro's and Small tripods so I need something that can carry those things.

I would look at the USWE hydration packs, @@ShadLife

I sweat like that in anything over about 27°C. There's a company called Halo Headband that use a silicone strip to divert the perspiration away from your eyes, there's a helmet manufacture using the same idea as well, but I forget who.

I actually have a couple of those Halo headbands. I just never remember to use them...🤣

Shad, somewhere did you indicate you weighed the wheelset and documented that somewhere? They must be light, but would like to compare them with my Extralite wheelset built up in Germany by Mueller. They weigh 1070 grams for both. Because they took many months to complete because of lack of parts (Extralite hubs are made in Italy), I decided to sell them even before receiving them. (Their on eBay and Pinkbike.) Also, is that a Moots bike? I looked through your videos and I did not see where you acquired that. It has that Moots titanium finish, with their distinctive graphics. Moots is overall, quite an expensive brand. Thank you for the video.

The wheelset weight is 1,350g in this configuration. I did compare them to my carbon wheels that I took off this bike in the video just before this one. They are about 1.5 pounds lighter. But those wheels are also 30mm wide and have a 2.6 tire on them so it wasn't an apples to apples comparison which I mention in the video. Berd claims to have the lightest spokes, not the lightest wheels. Of course, a lighter hub will also make for a lighter wheel. You didn't look hard enough....LOL. Just kidding. The frame is an Esker Hayduke Titanium and it's on my channel quite a bit. I got the frame around the middle of summer last year.

Nice, knew you would like them! Now you want me to take my berd wheels and put them on a Ti hayduke! I did alloy wheels with berd spokes, middle ground.

So im hearing mix'd thoughts on vertical compliance of alloy vs carbon wheels. I aways thought alloy was a liitle more compliant and was interested in how berd would work with alloy. How do like alloy + berd Worth or would you go carbon?
@HUKIT.

The compliance is interesting. I have two sets of Enve M735’s and one Enve M630’s all with Hydra’s and the difference in compliance is shocking between them. They’re both laterally but the stiffer 735 wheels definitely takes a toll on you by the end of the day.

Thanks for the video on these, really interesting. I would imagine these along with a Ti frame must be a nice supple feel. These would make great XC/Marathon wheels.

Those wheels look soooooo awesome, especially on a Ti hardtail! Any idea how the weight of the Berd/i9 combo compares to your set of Hunt Trail Wides? I know your Hunts are mullet, so not apples-to-apples….but based on published specs it’s tough to find a set of trail wheels that are significantly lighter than Hunt Trail Wides from what I’ve seen. Yea, I know weight isn’t the only advantage of the Berds (and of course they are “nicer” than the Hunts), but just curious. For context- I’m currently running the 29er Trail Wides on my hardtail, and they are great. I’m always window shopping for the next big upgrade though, hence my question.

I can compare the two front wheels since they are both 29 inchers. A more realistic comparison would be Hawk30 wheels vs Hunt Trail Wides since they are both Trail/Enduro wheels.
