I will never forget standing on the parade deck at MCRD San Diego after my son and his platoon were given final orders on graduation day. My son was company honor man of India Co 3rd Battalion. I watched my son and his SDI off by themselves having a conversation and it was both of their last day at MCRD San Diego. My son has moved on to a very esteemed battalion and his SDI retired from the Marines that day. One of the last letters from my son home before we saw him for family day he wrote that he was most proud of the award that he was going to receive at graduation was not for himself but for his SDI. The Marines build men and instill in them a character and swagger that will stick with them for life.

honestly the best way to be an officer is to enlist first and then get commisioned. for three reasons. one you gain knowledge through the eyes of the enlisted which will help with leadership skills. Two you earn alot more respect from your troops who are under your command. Three you might not like the way the marine corps is.

Since these programs change from time to time, the best bet is to meet with an Office Selection Officer (OSO) at a Marine Recruiting Station. Not all stations have an OSO but they are required to refer you to one. I wish you the best.

@GscottS16 hey, being an officer in the Marine Corps. is a big commitment as well as a big responsibility. Even though you're 16, you still have a long way to go before you can become an officer. Unlike the enlisted side, where you can join once you graduate high school you must have a bachelors degree from an university. So first thing's first, go to college then talk to an OSO about becoming an officer in the Marine Corps. Good luck!

Going enlisted first, and then getting a commission to become an officer is not at all guarantee and very unlikely. I'll message you for more info.

Far from it. The first salute comes from someone the new officer respects, often a family member. The coin impresses the commission's importance on the officer. "You pay for your first salute, you EARN the rest of them."
