Sooo pleased to see you, and your Greens colleagues giving Maiden Speeches after the Greenslide of the last election, and listening to your distinctly humane vision. I look forward to you and the other Greens working for a better nation, and a more genuinely representative parliament.

Thank you for telling people the translations of the suburb names, highlighting the diverse linguistic beauty of Yuggera and Turrubul country! One thing I want to point out is that "Enogerra" is also actually a misspelling of "Euogerra", from something like "yuwa-ngarriya" which does indeed mean "corroboree" (lit. "sing-play"). I think it would have been a nice addition to mention that, but still - amazing speech!

Is that why so many members where away or walking away? Because a greens mp started talking?

I think they just didn't need to be there any more. Not walking out in protest or anything. Probably going back to their offices or to get something to eat.

@@ronralston3592 It's a first speech - what were you expecting, football and beer? honestly, the speech is allowed to be about anything but typically it introduces the member, sets out the kind of issues that are important to them, gives you background info on the person, and she basically did exactly that. I'm not in her electorate, but am in Brisbane and learning more about those names and what they mean was super interesting to me. I'm sorry you couldn't find the fast forward button to get past that to the bits you were interested in.
