This Beetle looks awesome for being 64 years old! The engine shouldn't be too hard to fix; this is the kind of technology you can fix with a hammer, a srewdriver, a set of spanners - and that's it! Maybe it needs a new carburettor, a new solenoid, then set the ignition...None of this bloody electronic stuff we have in the cars today!

@PeterWIlson, I used to be that way, until a friend of mine, who is even deeper in AirCooled, got a new beetle from his friend who owns a junkyard ! So based on his new love and his recommendation, I bought an 06 with the 2.5 with manual (Convertible), and I love it. Maybe go try one. It's quirky, but has decent power, and still feels like a vw.
@pjwilsonn

Nah! My wife has a yellow 2000 1.8 turbo (New) beetle. It has been fairly reliable and has incredible acceleration and, of course, has heating and airconditioning, but needs premium fuel, synthetic oil, expensive ignition components and has had a whole bunch of quirky problems. The plastic power window doodads, for example, ageing and breaking, dropping the window into the door. And the electrics are worse than the problems air-cooled VW's had when there was a 6 v battery under that rear seat. Old air-cooled Beetles have a distinctive ride because of large wheels and that brilliant torsion bar suspension. With the split rear window and the small rear window models, riding in the back seats also gave you a snug , secure feeling that you just don't get in modern cars, like being in a cave, hard to describe. Homenaje to Ferdinand Porsche.

Early on,you can hear the 'easy' cylinder that probably has a stuck open valve.hope it warms up and snaps shut. Ive had one stuck open,started it up,didn't clear up ,so I shut it off and after a few minutes,I heard a 'ping'. As soon as I ground it over,the sound of all compression was uniform and it sat and idled good . I also fill the bowl thru the vent tube. That pulley rust can destroy a fan belt pretty quick.A drill with a stiff wire wheel cures it fast. Thats a real jewel! I love it!

every time I see one of these vids it reminds me of when I was 15 working on a 25 dollar VW van. I did get it to run long enough to blow it plumb up when I sprung an oil leak. I knew nothing then. Also sometimes reminds me of my VW square back that was fuel injected.. until that quit. A new fuel pump, lines and all failed to fix it. I traded a motorcycle to a guy for repairing it, it ran just long enough for him to be gone with the bike... then quit again. I about burned it up messing with putting fuel directly into the intake...but even burnt I got as much out of it as I paid for it. (wasn't that much) I really liked that square back when it was right. Always started even in below zero weather, it had one of those gasoline powered heaters that you could actually turn on before you even started the car (it had a timer on it, it would run for ten minutes without the car running) so it was never uncomfortable in the winter, no air so a bit warm on the few really hot summer days we got where I lived in Colorado. I still love VWs but don't own one now. They're too pricey now if they're in decent shape. Hell, it's hard to find a bug or van that's drivable and unmolested. They're either piles of rust or have had all kinds of nasty things done to them. A few years ago, I went to a car show, not a huge one, there were old classics, resto mods, hot rods, and all sorts of things. What car got the most attention, a bone stock, unmolested VW bug. I was checking it out very closely myself. the lady that owned it was surprised it was getting so much attention. I just told her how rare one that's bone stock is, and how hard they are to find these days. My wife at the time ticked me off, we had a chance to buy an unmolested very nice VW window van for a good price, she didn't want it cuz it didn't have power steering, and since it was her money from a settlement, I couldn't manage to persuade her otherwise. we wound up buying a junker olds that looked nice but only ran for like a month.
@tootall5559

oh the window van was automatic not my first choice but hey, if that alone would have placated her, it would have been worth the trade off. I once ran across a VW Bug in a body shop I was working at that had an automatic. I didn't get it, at the time, why anyone would want or need an automatic.

I was sixteen they still had to sign.. but they would sign for a 1965 Galaxie 500 four door... now just what did they think I could do in a van and not a large four door car? My first car a 56 VDub. 36 horse, reliable, great in snow with heat that was more theory then fact. That's an outstanding starting point. Always a fan favorite to try to get one of these things sitting round forever to start but it's pure showmanship. You always end up pulling it, going through it and why not. The cars are worth an lot and those old engines with cast iron heads relatively easy to freshen up. 36, 40 horse whatever. Get the thing going down even a modest hill and it would fly. Just a lot of fun to drive and bullet proof mechanically.

I traded a $150.00 stereo for a 1956 vw bug w/sunroof, the same as in this video, in my senior year in HS 1972 in Kailua, Hawaii. there were lots of VW's back then, from the 60's. I ended up selling it for $500 after it was modefied with a 67 trans and 67 engine. I bet they're worth a fortune now. I also had a chance to buy a 1956B Porshe convertible speedster for $1,600 in 1973, from original owner, I blew it, my uncle never came to pick me up to go and buy it and someone else beat me to it. I still regret depending on my uncle for a ride to go and buy it. Lesson learned, never depend on anyone for anything! You want something done, do it yourself.

I was in the VW scene during the early 90s, and a fella could pick-up an OK bug for 800 bucks from the mid to late 60s, if you were willing to drive to Wisconsin (lived in St Paul, MN). But......the holy grail... An Oval from the 50s couldn't be found easily. I can't even image finding something like that in 2020. Nice find, I'm glad you found it, as you've got the vibe. Great find just found your channel I think these vids will help me tremendously peace and love bug lover, I hope to find car like that one day never had oval but a couple 59s love the black with two tone red white interior classic beauty I bet she was a centerfold in her day tasteful spread im sure, she was a tease but she wants to get down to it and be ridden again, driven again pardon me. Great car love it.
