I was teaching primary school in south Texas on the Mexican border when this song came out. One of my students was a shy boy named Fernando. This song helped him to become one of the most popular boys in the school and brought him out of his shyness.

I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley in the sourhernmost tip of Texas, (not really a valley, only in name) and I recall feeling proud that my home area was mentioned in this song. ...and no, the border is not south of San Antonio, there is still a good about 200 mile stretch before arriving to the Mexican border, which is my home area, the Rio Grande Valley.

This was their 2nd biggest hit after Dancing queen. It was HUGE! I grew up with Abba. The soundtrack to my life. You should check out One of us (a reggae ballad vibe), Move on (a tropical beach vibe) and maybe Super trouper. Abba never disappoints ❤️

I loved seeing you enjoy this song. I lost my mom when I was 20. Frida reminds me so much of her. Watching ABBA videos makes her memory rush back super hard, this song especially, which is why I adore ABBA. I've never been a concert goer, but I hope very much to see their virtual Voyage show someday.

A real "guilty pleasure" and unexpected from this group. As a long-time folk music fan I always enjoyed this song but was surprised that it came as a departure from the usual, semi-disco style of Abba. Not that I didn't enjoy their other hits.

hello! I'm so happy to see you again with ABBA songs and Your lovely reaction "Fernando" (1976) is slowly, and beautiful The best is the beauty of their vocal harmonies, with great solo intro by Frida, very soft at the whisper level but at a level of perfection ABBA had already recorded "Dancing Queen" and it came from the success of "Mamma Mía" It was the manager who convinced Them to record "Fernando" so as not to repeat the style (the brunette Frida had done it the year before on her solo album in Swedish, with other lyrics, and it was a big success) The manager was right and everything was a great success, one after another in 1976, that gives ABBA three #1 consecutives in UK: Mamma Mía ; Fernando ; Dancing Queen "Fernando" was a colossal success in Australia (14 weeks #1 surpassed the BEATLES with "Hey Jude") and #1 in U.S. Adult Contemporary "Fernando" is the ABBA second greatest worldwide (only behind Dancing Queen) and sell more than 10 millions singles all over the world now I give You three suggestion of classics, greatest songs and #1 in UK, for a next reaction to ABBA 1) "The winner takes it all" (1980), the Most heartbroken song 2) "Take a chance on me" (1978), one of most power and happiest songs 3) "Waterloo" (1974), but Not the Official video (that is good); in these case is better when ABBA was famous for win the classic Eurovision Song Contest in UK 1974: kzitem.info/news/bejne/lHypvJmDs2N3aJg (these is the link with the live performance of ABBA, it's historic moment that changes 70s music) but if You want to see "Hidden Gems Forgotten" there's a lot of another greatest songs: "I've been waiting for you" (1975) "Move on" (1977) "If it wasn't for the nights" (1979) I see you in the next video A cordial greeting to You and DJ with all affection from Buenos Aires Argentina
