Al made this song his own. Nobody ever did it better. I grew up with this music. My mother was in love with him. We got to take her to see him for her fiftieth birthday. I got the security lady to let her go to the stage. He held her hand, kissed it and talked to her. I thought she might pass out. Such a sweet memory. Thanks Sceez!

Those outfits are fire!!!! Second this man's voice makes me melt. Awe Lawd...can I also say I miss artists like this. He is dropping every ounce of emotion into his sangin' plus the band rises and flows with his intensity as well, I mean this band is banking him perfectly.

@@patriciadavis1393Agree. And the fact that from that point on, the 3 Brother Gibbs would use the Jolly Green Giant's & Willie Mitchell's arrangement of this classic in their live performances. After hearing this Barry Gibb changed his live lead vocals on this gem that he co-wrote. There's no higher compliment than that.

This song is not a love song, it refers to the break up of the singing group The Bee Gees. "How Can You Mend.." was never released a single by Stax Records, later in 1978 Vogue released it as a 45 rpm. This tune was written after a breakup of the Bee Gees. “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart”, originally released by The Bee Gees, was the lead single on the Bee Gees album Trafalgar. Primarily written by Barry and Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, this song was the groups first U.S. number one hit! The song was written after a period of distance between the brothers. The writing of the song helped bring the brothers back together. Billboard ranked the track as No. 5 song for the year of 1971. Lyrically, the song is genius. Its central question about how to mend a broken heart is answered in one word never actually uttered by Robin Gibb: Love. Barry and Robin wrote the song as they were bringing the band back together after the Bee Gees had split up. It really is a song about the brothers and for the brothers but it reflects the universality of sorrow being vanquished by joy, the joy of love. This most human of truths will remain a constant as long as people live. Al Green's one and only number one hit was in 1972, Al Green went to No. 1 on the US singles chart with "Let's Stay Together," his only US chart topper.

FYI just to give a context of how difficult it must have been for Al Green to make it big because he grew up in a large large family and I think initially the family was sharecroppers in the South and they later moved North but can you imagine the struggles this man had to go through😊😊😊😊 I got my first album called living for you in 1973 when I was a teenager in college and yes I'm old😅😅😅😅 but he will always be my number one male singer and FYI Janis Joplin is my number one female singer of all time❤❤
