It was called "Multi-harmony over doubing" Where Karen and her brother Richard sang all of the parts, on different tracks. And they put them all together to sound like a choir singing. There is a video here on YT, of RC explaining it. And if I am not mistaken, he was the first to make it popular. Although it was used in by an old country singer, way back long ago. Which I think, is also on the video.

@VintageRose75
4 жыл бұрын
@@neecey2222 She died in February 1983. She was 32 years old..just a few weeks shy of her 33rd Birthday. She had felt a lot of pressure from music critics and her overbearing mother and perfectionist brother (Richard, her partner in their duo, "The Carpenters"). She began to control one of the few things she could...and that was her weight. Back in the late 1970s/early 1980s, anorexia was not as understood as it is now. Family and friends thought it was as simple as the fact that she just needed to make herself eat no matter what. They didn't understand the underlying causes, and that she needed therapy to get at the root cause of her disease. Only then, would she begin to change her thought processes and heal. She finally was seeking treatment for it near the end of her life. The sad thing, she was actually gaining weight back, but she did it too fast. It was difficult on her system, and she had a heart attack, and collapsed to the floor of her parents' home. She had one of the most magical, smooth, angelic voices ever--it is terribly tragic she was silenced so young.

Karen had perfect pitch and a contralto voice with a several octive range. Many consider her one of the greatest female vocalists of all time. If you listen to other Carpenter songs (and there were many hits back in the late 1960's and 1970's, you can hear how versatile she was. Great range, silky smooth, so easy to listen to. She actually preferred playing the drums and considered herself a drummer who could sing. She passed away tragically from a heart attack due to a weakened heart caused by years of suffering from anorexia. She was only 31. Her death brought anorexia into the forefront and probably helped many suffering from the disease as research was done into dealing with it. If she would have had it with what is now know anout the condition, she probably could have been helped. RIP Karen.

Yes she was amazing, still was a drummer too even though they kept wanting her in the front of the stage she felt comfortable at the drums, probably because of the insecurities she had about her weight. She actually didn't even play the drums at first when she joined the band, I think she was playing the flute but she watched the snare drummers and asked the band teacher if she could try those instead and she picked it up really quick which is a bit unheard of considering the band was doing tournaments and parades back then but she loved it and played the drums from then on. I feel so privileged coming from the same hometown, high school and band as The Carpenters.

@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 Yes I know she tried different instruments throughout her school years prior to high school. She was already in the marching band and during band practice something about the snare drumming made her want to change from the instrument she was playing in the band to the drums. It was like a calling. I remember a movie I think the title was Karen Carpenter Story or something like that. It was not approved by Richard and the family. He completed disliked the movie. However the scene in which she was at band practice watching the drums she felt like she wanted to try it so she did. My band teacher was there while they were filming the movie. They actually wore our band uniforms which was ridiculous because it was practice not a performance and we never wore our uniforms practicing. But I think they did it for the effect and the fact that our uniforms had our high school name across the chest, DOWNEY. But they were not the same uniforms that Karen wore while she was in the band.

Actually mr. Mortician the question wasn't that strange. In this current racially tense climate, comments like this by what appears to be a white person directed towards black people elicit that type of response. Generally white people who don't really know black people but just have a stereotypical opinion of us react with surprise at how well mannered and respectful we are when they actually do spend time with us because we are, in fact, regular people. Not saying you're racist just saying that is where level 2's question came from (I think). You would be surprised at the profession that I am in how many times I've been told by white peers how polite I am as if they expected me to be else.

I also hate that the drums are WAY WAAAY back in the mix. Concert toms. Yuck. These plastic ones (Ludwig Vistalites) are big, HUGE sounding. See Led Zeppelin the Song Remains the Same. While you don't record these in a studio, big drums (Bonham kept the same sizes in wood, I think), they're huge sounding.

Cannot remember the date but in the 80's sometime, she came out onto the stage, stood next to a piano and belted out Blue Bayou! The vocal power was insane, clear, strong perfection! Her albums, etc., never did her justice! Today it's the opposite, to see someone live and they are better then their CD's is impossible. You two taught me a good lesson. I laughed that you guys don’t know the classics etc but I realized how I mostly listen to songs I grew up with and not a lot of newer stuff. So, thanks for expanding my music and my mind.

All the music from our Renaissance of the last century - its enriching a whole new generation. Only without the music genre-warfare if you will that existed when the music came out. If you two went back in time to when this came out, you would have been laughed at by your peers for listening to this! (Trust me) But your enjoyment is so pure, and it makes older people like me smile to watch!
