This song is about going from hopeless to saved. Finding Jesus, getting baptized meaning down with the old and up with the new and finding the peace and acceptance she so needed. Carrie has a very strong faith as do most country singers.

There might be something in the Oklahoma water 😂 Quite a few country singers are from here. Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, Toby Keith, Garth Brooks, Blake Shelton, Vince Gill, Ronnie Dunn are probably the most well known. Carrie grew up in a very small town that has about 3000 people and 1 stoplight. The town I grew up in had 3 stoplights, we were big time. I think Carrie started singing in church. I heard her say on an awards show years ago that she only ever wanted to be a country singer. She’s a fan of hard rock, too. I about fell over when I heard her cover Ozzy & Guns N Roses. She rocked both, of course. So fun to listen to.

I saw an interview once will Chris Stapleton where he was asked what genre was he. His answer was, I sing what I like and I’m a country artist. However, I sing what I like at that moment.

very good observation. Carrie was raised in a very small town and sang in the church. Stapleton also grew up in a small coal mining town. He sang many different types of songs. Bluegrass, soul, country & country rock. Both have the distinct country twang in their voices. Both would be stars in any genre as their type of talent isn't limited. Interesting, Chris's wife wrote a song for Carrie which was a hit. They both are very humble and family oriented.

As for singing in church, probably. Singing on broadway? No, she never saw Broadway until she became famous. She was a small town country girl until her American Idol win.

And her personal story adds to the understanding and context of the manner in which she sings. That you can’t reproduce, you have to live through it process it and Inc into your spirit in order to sing your true heart.

Good music is just that…good music. I consider myself a “country music” fan. However, if other music comes in the radio and I start singing and it’s something other than country, so be it.

Mostly I do a thumbs up even if I do not listen to the whole review. The 'Something' in the water was The Holy Spirit and trying to skirt around that is something you need to check yourself about.

Personal growth?? its about dying to self, giving your soul to God through the work of the Holy Spirit.. not “personal growth”

She has an amazing voice! Her live performances are better than the recorded versions. You should check out " I told you so" live at ACMA awards 2009. Many years ago she said Martina McBride was an inspiration for her. Check out Martina Mcbride "Independence Day" live farm aid 2001 you will see the similarities!

If Carrie Underwood confuses you about her version of country, Keith Urban will probably blow everything you think you know about country music even more sideways. People don't seem to understand that country music is more than just the style of music. It's the stories, the emotions, the heartbreak, and the joy. There are some constants in the instruments, but even that is changing. Country music has always been the music of working class Americans. It's about their struggles and their triumphs. I grew up in the Appalachian mountains where bluegrass is king and country music a wonderful mixture of both the old and the new. Country music is always evolving and bringing the life experiences of those who write and perform it. It isn't something that you can put in only one category and say that's what it is. In its own way, country music has always broken boundaries. It just does it in a much quieter way than a lot of other flashier types of music like rap or rock.
