This is from their 1984 "reunion" album of the same name. After 9 years of inactivity, they came out with this great album. Check out another great song off this album titled "Knocking At Your Backdoor". Deep Purple are one of the greatest bands in rock history. Their classic line-up of Ian Gillan - Lead Vocals Ritchie Blackmore - Guitars Roger Glover - Bass John Lord - Keyboards Ian Paice - Drums and Percussion Rod Evans did the Lead Vocals on their first 3 releases, the biggest hit of this era was "Hush". An absolute masterpiece with Lord's Keyboards leading the way. As I am not sure if you have reacted to, I will make suggestions based on my opinion. "Machine Head" is their perfect (every song is rippin') album. From "Highway Star" to "Smoke on the Water" to "Lazy" to Ash Williams' (Evil Dead franchise) favorite "Space Truckin", "Woman from Tokyo". When Ian Gillan and Roger Glover left the band they were replaced by Glenn Hughes on Bass and Vocals, and an at the time, unknown vocalist named David Coverdale, later of Whitesnake. The title track "Burn" is an absolute, no pun intended, burner. In 1984, the classic line-up reformed and gave us the album "Perfect Strangers". Opening with "Knocking at Your Back Door" to "Perfect Strangers". There are more great songs in their catalog, but those are some of my favorites. Deep Purple as a band are mentioned with the likes of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath as Heavy Metal pioneers. Thanks again for introducing great music to a new generation. You guys are awesome.

Yes very important to remember! Excellent explanation! Different versions of the same band. The best lineup by far though! When these guys put behind their differences and made music it was surely classic! A bit different sounding because it was a decade later but still the best of Deep Purple! A great example of early metal music! Deep Purple, along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, are known as the "unholy trinity" of hard rock and heavy metal. The lead singer is Ian Gillan (who later was the vocalist for Black Sabbath). Richie Blackmore wanted someone who could match the range & screams of Robert Plant, of Led Zeplin. Ian's, bone chilling, "Child in Time" is possibly more than what Plant could have delivered, UNBELEIVEABLE! "Child" is the pinnacle of Ian's vocal abilities! A must reaction! Live on the British TV show "Doing Their Thing" 1970 is the best to react to. One other unique factoid of Ian Gillan is he starred as Jesus, in Andrew Lloyd Webber's rock opera, "Jesus Christ Superstar".

'Perfect strangers' came 12 years after the iconic album 'Machine head' in 1972, which delivered 'Smoke on the water' and other classics... In 1984, that Deep Purple line-up finally came back together for the first time since 1973 (Deep Purple carried on w/ new members until their breakup in 1976). All 5 members played in different projects - guitarist Ritchie Blackmore in the band Rainbow, which he later hired bassist Roger Glover... Ian Gillan played in various solo bands, including Gillan, and had just done 1 album & tour as the singer of Black Sabbath in 1983... Jon Lord (keyboards) and Ian Paice (drums) had spent a few years playing in Whitesnake w/ former Deep Purple singer David Coverdale. In the early 80's, the classic 5 members started talking about reuniting Deep Purple and that finally happened in 1984... they got together, recorded the album 'Perfect strangers' and toured worldwide into 1985, mounting a spectacular comeback. Unfortunately, the reunion would go sour by 1988, primarily because of guitarist Ritchie Blackmore's controlling tendencies and erratic demands... Ian Gillan wanted to tour actively, but Blackmore was not inclined to. Gillan later reflected that when they had 4 guys who wanted to be a band... and 1 guy who wants to run it all single-handedly, it doesn't work. He also recalled that because of missed opportunities to play live and Blackmore's erratic moods on stage, their concerts were not selling up to expectations. Gillan was fired in 1989 and the band recorded 1 album in 1990 w/ ex-Rainbow singer Joe Lynn Turner... But the rest of the band (minus Blackmore) wanted Ian Gillan back for Deep Purple's 25th anniversary in 1993... Ritchie Blackmore, frustrated w/ the musical direction, quit Deep Purple late that year... All 4 Deep Purple members were interviewed afterwards, and they all voiced their frustrations w/ the legendary guitarist... Jon Lord said that he would 'sulk like a little boy'... Ian Paice subtly said that if Blackmore went onstage w/ a problem, the whole band had a problem... Roger Glover grumbled that if he went on stage and felt like he didn't belong there cos they sounded so bad, he just wanted to run offstage and not come back... In 1994, Deep Purple hired former Kansas guitarist Steve Morse to join the band... and after a while, it proved to be the right decision. The band released the 'Purpendicular' album in 1996 and toured actively, w/ most of the issues gone. Ian Gillan revealed that once Steve Morse joined Deep Purple, they had a guy that made rehearsing and playing live enjoyable... and after a while, the fans accepted the change, crowds at their concerts got bigger and touring became a priority once again.

Now in my “older age”, this is my favorite Deep Purple song. Sometimes I have to pinch myself over all the classic rock concerts I’ve seen. Saw this tour and saw when the same singer (Ian Gillan) was lead singer for Black Sabbath for one tour. His voice was as good as studio live both times. Absolutely primal. The staccato rhythm is in the spirit of Kashmir but with the creepy sounding keys in the background is so compelling and unique.

This song and this band was one of the few that was ahead of their time. The way they used dischordant progressions and unexpected rythms. The smoking Guitar Riffs, and the voice that was otherworldly singing about mysterious things with mysterious rythms and a unique style. I just can't put it into worlds, but his vibe, was a thing, and still is, but this was where it came from. And a few other bands as well. They were all experimenting along these surreal lines. It was music, but it was also Epic Musical Storytelling. They brought you into the secret netherworld of magic and dragons and impossible tasks and unimaginable victories. Saga. Again, I can't find the words, but this was Album Rock that had a theme, and the theme was another world of adventure and sacrifice. Heavy Metal. And there is a movie called heavy Metal that is an animated movie with a Heavy Metal Soundtrack, and you guys should review it on your movie channel. It was a BIG DEAL back in the day. It may seem corny at first, but you will get into it and the music is great. Databyter ,

The voice is Ian Gillan. He's been the lead singer most of the history of Deep Purple. David Coverdale (of White Snake) took over for a few years (73-75) and Joe Lynn Turner (89-92) for a few. The lyrics were inspired from a character named Elric in a sword and sorcery series from the 70s by the author Michael Moorcock. Side note... Blue Oyster Cult has a song called "Black Blade" that comes from the same Elric character. He was known to wield a sword called Stormbringer that tends to possess the owner and cause them to do evil things.

Listen to ‘Black Night’. It’s awesome. As the Jesus Christ Superstar album emerged in the autumn of 1970, Gillan was in the charts as Purple's frontman, with the “Black Night” single and In Rock album.

This was a great song. If you have not heard them yet, also check out from Deep Purple: "Maybe I'm a Leo" "Pictures of Home" "Lazy" 'Concerto for Group and Orchestra' (album, pioneered the blending of rock and classical music) "Burn" (David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes on vocals) "You Fool No One" (David Coverdale on vocals) "Mistreated" (David Coverdale on vocals...or the live Rainbow version with Ronnie James Dio on vocals) '

After this, I’m sure you two will enjoy Dream Theater’s Pull Me Under. Official music video version is short/cropped so look for studio album version. HAGD

Hey guys Deep Purple is one of my Big 3 (along with Zep & Sabbath), you're in need of some bangers so any of these will do: Speed King, Highway Star, Lazy, Fireball, Space Truckin

Must do burn. That has David Coverdale on vocals. This is one of their absolute greatest songs. This was the reunion album of the original Mark II line up. They didn't record from 1976 until 1984. And this is one hell of a great record

This was a reunion in the 80s of the second Deep Purple lineup (Ritchie Blackmore guitar, Ian Gillian vocals, Roger Glover bass, Jon Lord keyboards, and Ian Paice on drums) which was the most commercially successful version of the band....

Live version of Child In Time is a MUST. The vocal is absolutely outstanding and it’s hard to imagine anyone else even trying it.

The most underrated band of all time. The best all time keyboardist, and top 5 drummer and guitarist. And band members that went in and out of several bands. Deep Purple, Rainbow, Ritchie Blackmores'Rainbow, Rainbow with Joe Lynn Turner, Dio, Black Sabbath with Dio, even Alcatraz. But Deep Purple's legacy is unmatched. U could call them the Godfathers of progressive rock.
