When it was written I think it was a metaphor about how television silenced us from talking to each other. Today it’s more profound when you think about cell phones… people talking without speaking… people hearing without listening … at least that’s what I get from it….

No, this is a tribute song, you can tell and look it up in the interviews. He says nobody heeded the warning in the first place, and that's why hes tired of losing friends in the music industhree and after Chester Bennington died, especially as happy as he looked. That's what prompted this song, and that's what this song is about is suicide he breaks down performing this live about 4 months ago. And explains everything, but if you want another really, really, really, really. I can't say really enough, but really, really fire video. Check this exact song out live on Conan O'Brien late night show. I promise you you will not regret it. It is like an entirely different song. I do not think those people understood what type of performance they were in for that night, but trust me. Check it out, you will not regret it.

When this song was written it was a light hearted sound. The words go more with Disturbs version. Back in the day it was about TV stopping families to spend time together. Now I believe in this day and age, it is social media.

You should listen to the original by Simon and Garfunkel, which was a warning to the world that we need to communicate. Disturbed’s version is anger that the warning was not heeded. The people in the boat with the instruments are sailing over to the shore where the people have the music.

The first time around there was a warning of the disconnect amongst each other due to technology and it's advancement and people were starting to show lack of communication with families and friends or even sharing valued time with one another. In today's world the message has been lost and sad as it sounds reality hits. The song holds true to it's meaning but many don't get it. When David from Disturbed made a rendition of the song his message sounded alarming, loud, in your face, powerful, compared to a disease, anger towards humans choice to neon signs meaning (TV'S, PHONES, PADS, COMPUTERS) over face time, gatherings and collaboration as once was done back in the day with music. Can this be fixed? Absolutely.

The original was a warning about the spread of tv and news and people losing themselves in gossip and/or hiding from the world. This version is the sadness and anger that that warning was not heeded still. The boat is the musicians crossing the gap of silence to the songwriters to bring music and enlightenment to the world. Great reaction. I love the young finding this song. Listen to the original as well. Look into the history of it.

You got it! You are among the few. GOOD JOB. The musicians are picking up their instruments and going to help the people who have been in silence too long. They are standing with music they wrote waiting for them to arrive.

I think that in the video, there is a great rift between the song writers and the musicians and one cannot survive without the other. They finally find a way to unite. I think it reflects greatly on the world today, as it did in the 60's when the song was written. It seems that we still haven't learned the lesson, as evidenced by today's social and political climate.

Well the original Artists was Simon and Garfunkel grew up listening to them in the early 60’s it was played with both singing and picking acoustic guitars “folk” type music if I may…. They predicted todays “tech” world who would of known, I didn’t receive the “message” til my fav heavy metals band did this rendition that should be put in some hall of fame for the best done with Grace and Respect of another Artist which I must say they were very PROUD of and stated. People looking down not up or around, the dismissals of in~person, visual contact and touch that stimulates us as humans….wow

This has become a standard for the band, always expected at their live gigs! David and his brother were trained Jewish cantors. He turned to metal and his brother is an opera singer. Paul Simon said he wrote this after a dream and the meaning is still argued about. The video I feel talks of the rediscovery of lost music. One island find the sheet music, the other find the instruments and travel to them... Paul Simon saw THIS very performance on Conan and loved it. Poor David was really poorly with a bad cold when he sung it on Conan, so I urge you to watch the official video to hear David in top form and the visuals really add to the music. kzitem.info/news/bejne/o6FtuIqtbHtpmJw Check these interviews with David... kzitem.info/news/bejne/z6qEzKulhHZhi3Y kzitem.info/news/bejne/mKuBvnyuj2tyiJg David being interviewed and performing on stage The Vengeful One and Sound of Silence... kzitem.info/news/bejne/q69suoemr2hzf6g The official video... kzitem.info/news/bejne/1m96zWGdcKZjn2k The original Simon and Garfunkel version... kzitem.info/news/bejne/r3d71qR8jol9mZg Fascinating that Pentatonix chose to cover Disturbed’s version rather than the original... kzitem.info/news/bejne/yJqM0IqqqaRmaII One of Disturbed’s classic tunes!!!! kzitem.info/news/bejne/kW-CuohmsamVmaw

Paul Simon wrote this for Simon and Garfunkle in about 1964. Was a folksong. David is a classically trained singer and is doing this cover. Restarting the urgency from 1964 and how the need to fix it has increased. Paul Simon approved this cover and I belive has a link on his website to it. You should check out the live performance on Conan. David D was sick at that time and performed anyway. Did a great job. And yes, the boat taking the instruments over to the writers is an attempt to reverse the silence.

Basically it's about censorship; music, words, etc. It was originally written by Paul Simon at age 21, waaaay back in '64. He has since praised Draiman for this version. Aloha🌺

The original was Simon & Garfunkel in 1964. Paul Simon wrote it. I have heard them sing it and many others since then and never understood the song until hearing Disturbed's version. I suggest you find the live version done on the Conan Show with a 20-piece orchestra behind him and some of the live concerts that are on KZitem. They are all just as good if not better than this music video. The video is about musicians who are crossing over to people who have music to play.

I feel the words or poems are written by one side and the music is written by the other and if the 2 don't get together we will never truly allow the songs to touch us and move humanity or change humanity for the better. Notice the 2 sides are separated by a great Gulf not allowing them to hear each other. People are to interested in their electronic devices to notice the silence growing like a cancer. The song begins with the broken instruments that no one noticed were missing. Then, one guy did up a guitar and one guy find a drum and they want you share the music with the other side and can't figure out how to bridge the divide. At the end, the musicians build the boat and untied the words with the music.
