The magazines and articles say his controversial lyrics made people eager to hear him not his rapping skills or music. According to news articles he trashed everyone in his songs even his fans, his parents and was verbally assaulting women in his songs constantly. After his comeback and after he became Eminem after slim shady that's when he became famous and admired especially in countries outside united States he was discovered when he wrote songs like "Not Afraid" that inspired people. After becoming Eminem he became so popular that even if he puts something filthy, inappropriate or evil in his songs his fans used to trash people that complain about his songs. Young kids did enjoy behaving like a gangster and doing things what slim shady mentioned in his songs. I personally enjoy to hear his fast rap part in his songs it's fun to sing along as well.

Should do the album version of this, because this was from the time when guys like Em actually rewrote lyrics for the “clean” version. Like that “elf” line ya’ll mentioned after first pause, that’s a complete rewrite. Actual bar is “since age 12 I felt like I’m someone else cuz I hung my original self from the top bunk with a belt”
@yessum15
3 жыл бұрын
Little known fact: Even the album version was cleaned up from the original. Most of the songs on the Slim Shady LP were Dre redressings of songs Eminem had already made a long time ago and self-released on the underground circuit. Dre's label hooked the beats up, but I noticed they insisted on toning down a couple of lines in order to avoid catching heat. For example the "spaceship" line was originally: "Running over pedestrians, R***ping lesbians, While they screaming 'Let's just be friends'" The line makes a lot less sense when he turned it into "in a spaceship." But it's understandable given this line was literally promoting a hate crime & sexual assault. I should also note that in most cases I actually preferred the production on Eminem's original cheap self made version of the songs.
@JakkFrost1
3 жыл бұрын
@@yessum15 I always preferred the explicit version, but apparently I never heard the true OG version of this song. I always assumed the spaceship thing was more of his acid trip type writing, and meant he was way too into the whole anal probe thing, which freaked out the extraterrestrials, making them run over pedestrians as they try to get away from him.

I think Ice-T said it best when he did an interview with Dr. Dre. He said "when we heard Eminem's Hi My name is for the first time, we were like WTF? But it was him! It wasn't NWA, it wasn't Snoop. You captured his own voice". You really got to give Dr. Dre a lot of credit for capturing Eminem and letting him do his thing. I was a Freshman in high school when this album came out and dam, what a ride! At first we all thought next big flop since Vanilla Ice, but next thing you know you've listen to the whole album on repeat while playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater on PS1 and smoking a bowl LOL!

As hard and hilarious as the lyrics are in this one, the uncensored version that didn't make the final cut is significantly more unhinged, it really shows exactly the kind of image Em wanted Slim Shady to have, this was essentially his first ever record with Dre as well, the beginning of something incredible. The "Running over pedestrians while they are screaming let's just be friends." is a line that doesn't entirely make sense, that's because it was one of many that had to be changed for the album version, I will not say the original line but yall can look it up if you haven't, that ad lib makes a lot more sense when you hear it.

Eminem's mother attempted to sue him for about $12 million for defamation. After 10 years the judge ruled in her favour and awarded her $25,000. She only got $1,600 after everything since the judge order she paid her lawyer $23,354 in compensation. His high school bully also sued him for defamation because he talks about him in Brain Damage. The judge threw the case out and gave the explanation in the form of a rap! Mr. Bailey complains that his rap is trash So he’s seeking compensation in the form of cash Bailey thinks he’s entitled to some monetary gain Because Eminem used his name in vain The lyrics are stories no one would take as fact They’re an exaggeration of a childish act The unedited version is super good and is pretty much banned everywhere. at around 7:00 in the video you guys discussed the comments about his mother. She has a syndrome called Münchhausen Syndrome by Proxy where basically she basically used Eminem as a scapegoat to feign illnesses and get attention for herself. It's horrific child abuse so Eminem raps about it (my guess is as a coping mechanism via trying to normalize the situation as we see with a lot of psychological distress).
