Falco was a role played by Johann Hölzel it was meant to be arrogant but Johann Hölzel was actually a "normal" guy. Sadly he had a big problems in his last years because his success dropped so that he didnt published his latest songs which were actually pretty good but were released after his deadly car accident. Falco was a very intelligent artist with an amazing aura. We visited his concerts at the end of the 80's and beginning from the 90's. Everything was very professional, his team and the background singers were amazing. His lifestyle kills him and maybe his depressions. It's a big sadness for the music world. I will say thank you for listening to Falcos Jeanny. What is the reason to decide to listen his song ? I want to ask you, can you imagine to write a song with the background to Jeanny or would you cover this song with your own flavour ? It would be nice, i'm sure

Sorry for being so late to this reaction but Falco, an Austrian singer was huge in the late 80's early 90's made this song as a way of describing his inner termoil, if you follow his songs from early to the later stuff you will notice that his material got darker and darker, he started to worry about his mental state, which led to his fatal accident, he rode his motorbike as fast as it would go and crashed into a car instantly killing him. Now it was claimed it was an accident but many of us who were deep fans of Falco at the time were convinced that he commited suicide. His death was a huge loss to music as if you look back through his songs he was a music genius. Loved your reactions to a great performance by a Legend.

Just in case its not known. That song was for some years on the index in some European Countries and wasn’t played on air. The newsflash in the video is telling that the police is searching a 19 years old girl last time seen 3 days before. She might be a victim in a criminal case. These in relation to the lyrics and the video gave speculation that the song is about kidnapping or sexual abuse. The song itself is a great piece of pop music

It maintains one of my favorite songs for all my life and I remember it all my life long, because I am only slightly older as it. They part where he shouts: "niemand wird dich finden, du bist bei mir" (nobody's gonna find you, you are with me) kills me everytime. Falco was such a great musician but a complicated character. He still remains an Austrian Icon and will never be forgotten. Which he also once sang: "Muss ich denn sterben, um zu leben? - Do I need to die, to live?

@The Wolf HunterZ Falco's best known song here is probably hands down "Rock Me Amadeus". It was top of the charts for a good while when it broke out of Austria onto a world stage. And it spawned multiple club mixes and a longer "salieri" mix. If he'd been handled better when he came to America to perform, I think he'd have been a household name in music. A good piece I'd highly Recommend is "The Sound of Music". It's not Rogers and Hammerstein. If you don't react to it, I'd recommend it highly personally if you like this. The guy is legend in Europe. When alive he was a Paul McCartney style hamm but had an Elvis sized fear that he was a fake. Very interesting character and an amazing music catalogue. He wrote the oritinal version of "Der Kommisar" which charted over here sang by After the Fire. Cheers!!!

When Jeanny was released as a single, allegations arose that the title downplayed or glorified rape, although the lyrics did not explicitly mention violence. However, the point of view that a rapist might have towards his victim is shown. The way in which the text is presented also leads to the conclusion that it is about a stalker who kidnaps his victim for the love he has spurned and kills him in his madness. The Newsflash part of the song, spoken by the then Tagesschau news announcer Wilhelm Wieben, reports on a "dramatic increase in the number of missing people" and "another tragic case" of a 19-year-old girl who has been missing for 14 days, in which the police have the possibility of a crime cannot be ruled out. [...] The song plays, especially in connection with the video, with different scenarios of a love relationship and leaves the listener or viewer to judge. While the video initially depicts the girl Jeanny as being harassed and persecuted, the story later takes a turn. Falco is identified as the murderer when the supposedly dead Jeanny is just emerging from a restaurant. In the final scene, in which Falco is incarcerated in a psychiatric facility in a straitjacket, Jeanny dances around him and taunts him. "Jeanny is alive, that's clear from the text and the video. Part II of Jeanny will prove in the fall that the man is the real victim. It's not for nothing that he ends up in the loony bin, completely beaten up by Jeanny, but more will not be revealed." - Falco opposite the youth magazine Bravo (1986)

Would be a 100% more entertaining with subtitles. The lyrics, apart from the english part, tell a very disturbing but also ambigious or rather authentic story. The young girl, maybe naive but also sexually curious, the rapist/serial killer with his obsessiveness, his narcisssism. I mean , yeah it's catchy and dramatic musically, but it's very "true", almost poetic in it's delivery, in german. I think that is lost if you just watch it like that. Its very layered focourse little details etc. It's more or less referencing the 1931 movie "M eine stadt jagd einen Mörder" (M a city hunts a murderer) by Fritz Lang. Which itself is a refernence to Bertolt Brechts Dreigroschenoper, and the sond Mack the Knife or in german Die Moritat von Mackie Messer. A Song by Kurt Weill. For example that while the video is obviously 80s, Falcos character is wearing 1920-30s clothes and has the F for Falco on his coat, as does M in the afformentioned movie. And all of these are fundamentally inspired by Jack the Ripper ofcourse
