Iron Maiden don't just sing songs they tell stories with them, The Trooper is about the charge of the light brigade. I know alot of people who passed their English exams by writing about the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Not by reading the poem but by listening to Iron Maidens song.

Back in the 80's right after the Powerslave album came out we studied The Rime of The Ancient Mariner in my high school English Lit class. I brought my tape in for the teacher to check out. He ended up playing the song for the whole class and we spent a couple days discussing the song. Not just the song and poem, but why studying the older and classic literature and history was important. He used this album to underscore his point. Even the hardest of metal bands are often well educated and literate in the classics. Not just Maiden, but many heavy metal (and rock) bands pull from literature, history, and mythology to write their songs.

Unlike a lot of metal bands, you can hear exactly what the Bassist is doing. He loves those triplets. He's got a lot of endurance to play like this for an entire set at a concert.
@matthewvalenti1348
Жыл бұрын
Nitpicking a bit but to be technical, a triplet and a gallop aren’t the same. Though Steve does use both many times throughout their discography. A triplet would have all three notes being equal in length (think Phantom of the Opera). That’s not the case for a gallop.
@ShuKatashSam
Жыл бұрын
@@matthewvalenti1348 True, (NOT nitpicking at all). The gallop(in this case) is an 1/8th note followed by two 16th notes, not triplets. But yes, he does play straight triplets on other songs. Thanks for catching this!

As many bands Iron Maiden tells you a story through the lyrics if you pay close attention. It describes the charge of the Light Brigade during the battle of Balaclava in 1854 in The Crimean War with scenes taken from the 1936 film The Charge of the Light Brigade, starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland. A true lesson in history right there.
