A very beautiful hand holding reaction 🤝! The lead singers on the song: Thomas Shelby, Mark Adam Wood and Otis Stokes, all added some very Soulful seasoning 🧂to a classic song by The Beatles. He said "Oh Please" not "Otis" lol 😆. I see 👁👁you have reacted to Lakeside before: Fantastic Voyage, Your Wish Is My Command and Something About That Woman. I Want To Hold Your Hand was not released as a single from Lakeside's 1982 album: Your Wish Is My Command. It was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. It was produced by Lakeside. The song reached #5 on the R&B chart. No info on the music video is available. This was the first Beatles' song to catch on in America. In 1963, The Beatles became stars in England, but couldn't break through in the US. They couldn't get a major label to distribute their singles in America, so their first three singles in the US: "Please Please Me", "From Me To You" and "She Loves You", were issued on small labels and flopped, even though they were big hits in England. Late in 1963, American news outlets started reporting on this British sensation, and interest in the group started to rise. Capitol Records took notice and released the single: "I Want To Hold Your Hand", in the US on December 26. The song rose up the chart, and on February 1, 1964, hit #1. It sold better in the first 10 days of release in the US than any other British single, and remains the best-selling Beatles' single in the United States, moving over 12 million copies. The Beatles celebrated madly when they found out they were #1 in America. They came to America for the first time on February 7, 1964, greeted at the airport by screaming fans. The song: "I Want To Hold Your Hand", was the #1 song in the Country at that time, and it stayed on top for seven weeks, until their next single, the re-released song: "She Loves You", replaced it. Legacy 🛡: At the annual Ivor Novello Awards, "I Want To Hold Your Hand" finished second in the category "The 'A' Side of the Record Issued in 1963 Which Achieved the Highest Certified British Sales", behind another Beatles' song "She Loves You". The song was nominated for the 1964 Grammy Award for Record of the Year. Still, the award went to Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz for "The Girl From Ipanema". The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the National Endowment for the Arts and Scholastic Press have named The Beatles' "I Want To Hold Your Hand" as one of the Songs of the Century. The song was ranked number 39 on Billboard's All Time Top 100. It was ranked number 2 in Mojo's list on the "100 Records That Changed the World", after Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti". In 1998, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. It has also made the list in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. In 2004, it was ranked number 16 on Rolling Stone's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". In 2010, Rolling Stone placed the song at number 2 on its list of the 100 Greatest Beatles Songs, after "A Day In The Life". In 2011, Time included the song on its list of the All-TIME 100 Songs. In 2018, Billboard magazine namedthe song the 48th biggest hit of all time on the Billboard Hot 100. In the UK, it was the second-highest-selling single of the 1960s, behind another Beatles' song: "She Loves You". As of December 2018, "I Want To Hold Your Hand" was the 18th best-selling single of all time in the UK. Lyrics (Lakeside Version) 🗒: Oh, girl, I tell you somethin' I think you'll understand When I say that somethin', oh, yes, I will I wanna hold your hand Hey, baby, I wanna hold your hand I'm gonna hold your hand, oh, yeah Sing it with me, brother Oh, please stay with me, pretty baby, ooh And let me be your man, yeah Ah, please say to me, baby, ooh You'll let me hold your hand Oh, I wanna hold, baby I wanna hold your hand, baby, baby Right now, I wanna to hold your hand, yeah Girl, when I touch you I feel happy inside Oh, so happy, baby It's such a feeling A feeling that my love (I can't hide) No, I can't hide, no I just can't take it no more (I can't hide) You should be lovin' me, baby (I just can't hide) You should be lovin' me Said I'm down on my knees beggin' you girl, please Because you've got that somethin' I know, I know, I know, hey, you will understand I'm talkin' to you, babe When I feel that somethin', that somethin', baby Makes me wanna hold your hand Hey, baby I wanna hold your hand I wanna hold your hand And together we will fly, you and I Lakeside Info 📰: The group began in 1969. In 1969 guitarist Stephen Shockley from Dayton, Ohio formed a group called The Young Underground after he had departed a group known as The Monterreys. Vocalist Mark Woods, who was a member of another local band called the Nomads, joined up with Shockley's band. In 1971, the Nomads and the Young Underground took on a new, singular identity. With the addition of Thomas Shelby and Mark Wood's sister Shirley Wood they became known as Ohio Lakeside Express. In 1976 the group dropped Ohio and Express from their name thus becoming Lakeside. In 1977 Lakeside's success began to accelerate. That year, the group released their eponymous debut album, which featured the single: "If I Didn't Have You". About this time the group debuted on Soul Train performing a Beloyd Taylor and Peter Cor song called: "Shine On", which helped pave the way for future success. As Lakeside added barefoot drummer Fred Alexander Jr the band was approached by Whitfield Records, Motown Records and Solar Records. Lakeside chose Solar Records, owned by Dick Griffey, with labelmates The Whispers, Shalamar, Midnight Star, Klymaxx and Carrie Lucas. Dick Griffey, the producer who had befriended and managed Lakeside since 1975, started Solar Records in 1978. At that same time Norman Whitfield had been courting the group to sign with his Whitfield Records but Dick Griffey offered the group a chance to write and co-produce their own music which Norman Whitfield at Whitfield Records was not willing to do. Parting amicably with Frank Wilson, Lakeside became a part of the Solar Records music family. The band released their next album: Shot Of Love, later in 1978. Their first Solar Records album featured songs all written by members of the band and co-produced with Solar records staff producer Leon Sylvers III. With this album, the band began to find major success on the R&B charts, when the single: "It's All The Way Live", reached #4 on the Soul chart. The band, at this point consisted of bassist Marvin Craig, drummer Fred Alexander, percussionist Fred Lewis, guitarist Steve Shockley, keyboardist Norman Beavers, guitarist/multi-instrumentalist and lead vocalist Otis Stokes, lead vocalist/keyboardist Mark Wood, occasional lead vocalists Tiemeyer McCain and Thomas Shelby found their niche with a sound that stemmed from years of playing together. The band dressed in costumes on their album covers, including pirates, 1920s police officers, cowboys, Arabian knights, and even Robin Hood. Despite the success of the album: Shot Of Love, and the single: "It's All The Way Live" (#4 R&B), their next album: Rough Riders, did not fare as well. However, the following album: Fantastic Voyage, exceeded all expectations. Its hit single: "Fantastic Voyage", went to reach #1 on the R&B chart, #12 on the Dance chart and #55 on the Hot 100. The tune remains the band's biggest hit of their career. The album's second single: "Your Love Is On the One" (#14 R&B), was a top twenty hit as well. The album: Fantastic Voyage, was certified Gold and remains the group's greatest achievement, and it eventually went Platinum. They group followed up with the album: Your Wish Is My Command, which contained a remake of The Beatles' 1964 song: "I Want To Hold Your Hand", which made the R&B top ten again at number 5. The album's second single: "Something About That Woman" (#25 R&B), did well on the R&B music chart as well. Lakeside went on to release four more successful albums to close out the 1980s. The group also had more hit songs on the R&B charts including the singles: "Raid" (1983 #8 R&B), "Turn The Music Up" (1983 #38 R&B), "Real Love" (1983 #17 R&B) and "Outrageous" (1984 #7 R&B), which kept the group moving forward until their change in the late 1980s. The group's 1987 single: "Bullseye" (#33 R&B), became the group's last major hit as the New Jack Swing music boom began taking over the radio airwaves. In 2015, after some staff changes and re-branding, the group is now known by the name "THE ORIGINAL LAKESIDE" to distinguish themselves with their audiences all over the world where they encompass 6 of the ORIGINAL members of the band with the addition of their dynamic, new lead vocalist: Eddie Guyton, of Dallas, Texas. They were honored in 2015 with a biography of the band on the TV One hit show “Unsung” where they were featured and took their fans and viewers on a journey of the band’s history and humble climb to success. In September 2016, they were also honored in the Brand new National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. as part of the exhibit of the major contributors to Funk and R&B music history. Tyrone Griffin, one of the later band members of Lakeside, has a son in the music industry, Tyrone Griffin Jr better known to the public as the R&B singer Ty Dolla Sign. ****CONTINUE BELOW****
