Best song put out in the past 5 years, in my opinion of course. Brilliant from start to finish. As far as the loss and how you would react, its hard to tell, because everyone handles loss differently. There is always shock, but for some of us, that shock never goes away. How we deal with it after the fact is the tough part. That is the challenge.

He is such an amazing talent & much loved, his vocal depth & range is ridiculous, with the raw rasp it just stands out (listen to his stripped back live "Bruises" you'll see). Other amazing male UK vocalists are Paolo Nutini & James Arthur, that sound amazing live just as much as studio recorded

Thank you so much for sharing your reaction to this song. I lost my mother when I was 22 years old (I'm now 40) after she endured a very protracted bout of cancer. We were not as close as you sound to your own mother, but up to that point I hadn't lived a day without her in my life. I have to say it was every bit as earthshattering as you can imagine. To lose this person that you hold up as a role model and has existed for as long as you can remember. In the hours and days after, I remember thinking I had no idea how I would ever get through it. Like nearly all things in life though, you do get through it. People in your life that you love and care for comfort you. Many people shared their own memories of my mother, and many of the stories were things I'd never heard. I easily learned as much about my mother after she passed as I had my whole life up to that point. Remembering them for all the reasons you loved them is the greatest way to honor their life after they have left this world. In this way they live on and that is a comfort in itself. Cherish the precious moments you have with your loved ones (you sound like a great guy, I'm sure you do). "A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory." -Leonard Nimoy

id respectfully disagree with others here in saying this video has less meaning, if you listened to his explanation of this version, is very moving, the woman in the video is his grandma whom had pass away, the guy helping him up from the bench is his real life brother, that reflects the numbness he felt at her passing, the turning around he does throughout, is his desire to give up on life and follow her in death, the words reflect the feeling of security and strength he got from her. i actually prefer this video way better. although don't get me wrong, the message in the other video is a real heart tug and beautifully told story.
