When L.L.Cool.J came out in 1985'' with his Album Radio He set the bar high. L L was the 1st Rapper on Def Jam. And at that time Def Jam was ran by Russell Simmons, And Rick Rubin, Rick Rubin is who made those beats on ''Radio''. And the reason those beats sounded so hard is because these songs were made to be played in a Boom Box, And this was the B.Boy Boom Box Era, Where Breakers were carrying Boom Boxes around not just listening to the music, But ready for a Breakdance Competition or a Battle. The 1st song on ''Radio'' Is ''I Can't Live Without My Radio'' A Representation of the Boom Box.🎶😎

Fun fact...THIS is actually the remix version. The first version is on a different beat called "Rock The Bell". L.L. is a living legend and for a long time he held down Hip Hop by himself as the Sex Symbol for Hip Hop...when he was first on Def Jam. L.L. had the rare combination of swagger, lyrical skill, sex appeal for the ladies and ferocity on the mic. He really was like the Elite version of Big Daddy Kane. And, he was one of the first mc's to make love songs for the ladies...he really popularized that lane. LADIES LOVE COOL J IS A LIVING LEGEND...you can't go wrong with any of his catalogue Njoi!

LL was a monster. Especially in the 80’s. His “Radio” and “Bigger and Deffer” albums were untouchable. I was surprised that he battled and took out one of hip hop’s dopest and most underrated lyricists, Kool Moe Dee. Bar for bar, I think Moe Dee won but that’s not popular opinion. LL was ushering in the new school and Moe Dee sounded a bit too dated to compete. But yeah, LL was that deal back in the day.

@@averyt6521 I wasn’t much of an LL fan during the 99’s and early 2000’s. I felt the game caught up to and surpassed him lyrically and stylistically. He still made hits but I was more of an underground head and dug a grittier sound than what LL brought. I still respect him as one of the legends and pioneers but his rhymes didn’t move me after awhile.

This joint, and his "You'll Rock" and of course "I'm Bad" made LL a freakin legend. And of course the WHOLE "Mama Said Knock You Out" album is legendary. But you had to be there to hear the bass kick when "Rock The Bells" dropped. There's a reason why DJ Jazzy Jeff made a whole legendary DJ set off of Rock The Bells among others. Salute to you for reacting to a classic which, as you said was really ahead of it's time. The remix of You'll Rock is still the sickest version.

You're on The right path Young Brotha.I like what You're doing 4real.Just keep remaining a Student of Hip-Hop.And You'll discover a Whole Wonder World full of Classic Jam's.Oh! LL Cool J being that He's from Hollis Queens NYC.He was under The Tutelage of Run-Dmc,Kurtis Blow. And many others He saw for inspiration. That came before Him.In My Opinion! He was just one of Those MC's Who took what was the Thing at The Time. And Maximized it a 100 Times over.LL was what We called! A "Lyrical MC".He was 1 of a small Handful of earlier Rapper's during His Era Who was actually really Lyrical. That Group in My estimation was Grandmaster Caz,Grandmaster Melle Mel.And Kool Moe Dee.The other half of Treacherous 3- LA Sunshine and Special K.And Spoonie Gee.And Raheim from The Furious 5.And I'm sure there's a few more. But point is.During The early 80's.Hip-Hop went through the stage where The MC began to take on a more prominent position.Because from The 70's going into the 80's The DJ was The Main Man.And The MC used to be behind The DJ's Set up beside Him.
