For viewers new to this song, the conversation at the beginning is between a doctor and his rock star patient. The doctor gives him an injection so that he's able to perform at his next show.

@jeffchristman674 if you ever watch The Wall then you will know it is his doctors that inject him. He is ODing (or just really high) in his room when the concert promoters/managers and other big music people are trying to get him up to go perform. But he is out of it. They then bring in medical staff and doctors that inject him with something (maybe like narcan or another drug) and he wakes up and is able to perform. If you've never watched it, I recommend it. It tells an entire story with the music.

"... I feel like I can feel the guitar solo in my heart." That's David Gilmore, and I think it's fairly common. I lack the vocabulary to adequately descibe what it is about his playing. It's like his phrasing and tone manages to tap into an emotional part of our psyche. The outro solo gets me every time and I have no idea why.

There are two singers for this song. One is Roger Waters, the bassist, who you here at the start. The other is David Gilmour, the band's guitarist. Pink Floyd did not really write songs meant to be heard as singles but rather as part of an album. Most of their songs run into each other with no proper breaks between them. The songs are often linked and meant be listened to in order. This is especially true of the album The Wall, which Comfortably Numb is taken from.

You'll understand and FEEL the lyrics more as you grow and age. Heartbreaking really, when all innocence is lost. What I wouldn't give to go back....13 in 1978 when I bought this vinyl and have loved EVER SINCE and appreciate it even more now. Great stuff man. I suggest watching the movie made for this. Its from an era you may not know much of (I'm assuming) and it has deep concepts that are classic. Good for you that you're opening your mind to new music (and hopefully other things) Some live they're whole life in one place one way of thinking on the straight and narrow. Okay of that's what one chooses but it was never for me. Enjoy. New sub from me.

I will FOREVER be Grateful to my parents family friends. My dad worked with him. He introduced me to Pink Floyd at 18. I am not gonna lie, I thought they were way too sodt and weak for me. Don'y judge me too hard, I was 14. They were a secret because they didn't sound hard core. It took some growing but my fiancee I had at 18. He reintroduced them to me. He made me listen. Whenever we were in the van. Pink Floyd. It really taught me true appreciation for good music. I've been an open fan of Pink Floyd since and they are harder than most realize. It taught me you don't have to sound hard to be bad azz. One of my favourite bands.

Many people say about their favorite bands they say things like "this group is different"! In the case of Pink Floyd they really are from another Galaxy! They are literally their own genre and nobody else sounds like them!; They don't follow any rules when it comes to songwriting or music! You should probably start by listening to songs from their Dark Side of the Moon album considered to be THE best album of all time from many magazine writers and many critics. also listening to Dark Side of the Moon or Wish You Were Here or Animals or even The Wall which Comfortably Numb comes from. When you listen to music from those albums they were meant to be listened to from beginning to end through the entire album so you may lose some context or a song I might stop suddenly. This is because the song your listening to will seamlessly transition into the next song but if you only listen to the one song it may stop abruptly! Always enjoy watching somebody discover Pink Floyd who are completely unique!! If you want to see them and how amazing their legendary concerts are watch anything from their 1994 Pulse concert tour! They have played this song with other people singing it so it sounded a bit different in movies such as "The Departed" a Martin Scorsese film with a giant cast!

Pink Floyd is Legendary man, they are on another level altogether, one of the GOATs of Rock music. They were formed in London in 1964, starting out as a Blues based Rock band, like virtually every Rock Band to come out of England in the 1960s. They've had an historic career and have sold hundreds of millions of albums worldwide, and counting! I've been a Floyd fan since 1973 when they released their iconic "The Dark Side Of The Moon" album, I was a 17 year old senior in high school, lol. They're known for their long compositions, philosophical lyrics, also for their mesmerizing live performances, with light and laser shows. Their 1994 Pulse Concert is a good example, "Sorrow" a good choice too! You must do the live version of "Comfortably Numb" at Pulse too, "High Hopes" too!

I heard you say something about this is the longest guitar solo you've heard. This leads me to believe that you haven't heard "Freebird" from Lynyrd Skynyrd (pronounced lin erd skin erd) a great southern rock band in the 70s. I'd say "Wish You Were Here" was my favorite album when I was a teenager in the 70's. @@jason9176 You are absolutely right and I must have had a senior brain fart. If I had merely Googled "Pink Floyd Houston 1972 setlist" I would have known that. CN, of course, is from "The Wall" (1979). What I do recall most vividly is their playing "Time," which had a different title then, and I recall coveting Nick Mason's clear acrylic kit, the first like that I'd ever seen. (I did finally get an acrylic kit. The drums sounded like shit, which may not have been the acrylic's fault.)

You would also need to read about Syd Barrett, orignal member of the band, and LSD and drugs did a number on his head. The band reused to speak much about him, but many fans from the time felt a lot of music from Dark Side of the Moon as about Syd. This one really was suspected to be about him and frying his brains out on drugs.
