Story is that Freddie was having breakfast when "Ice Ice Baby" came on the radio. He laughed, then called the lawyers. Just a note: this is that same Montreal concert that you saw from "Somebody to Love", where the director ticked-off Freddie. It was filmed over two days, so the band was told to wear the same clothes through out. Freddie randomly removed his shirt, and at one point had on shorts, just as an F--- You to the filming restrictions.

This is a collaboration between Queen and David Bowie but unfortunately they never got to perform it live together but there is a studio version. When Queen does the song live, Freddie sings Bowie's part and Roger sings Freddie's part. John Deacon (bass) wrote that bassline and the song was born from that. Great song with a powerful message. Thank you for your reaction. White Queen has a killer instrumental portion where Brian's guitar really screams. I'm In Love With My Car has a good drum section if you do the one that is Killer Queen/I'm In Love With My Car medley, Roger sings the whole song and Freddie sings Killer Queen. Dragon Attack for some great bass playing and of course Another One Bites The Dust has a strong bassline as well. There are a lot of killer guitar solos on Queen songs. The more you listen, the more you will hear. Freddie is so iconic that when people first start listening to Queen they tend to get caught up in him and miss the rest...then they start noticing the guitar and after that they will start hearing the bass and drums. Queen is such a well oiled machine that they blend together seamlessly and nobody tries to showboat themselves .

Once you 'Get' Queen...They become part of your soul and mental wallpaper. Although now in this 21st century there is so much mystique surrounding Queen, and particularly Freddie's legendary status...We who were privileged to see Queen perform live, knew instinctively that we were witnessing inimitable greatness. I was so very fortunate to attend several of their concerts in different parts of the world in the mid 80's...This band were the perfect storm, and Freddie was the God with pockets full of fairy dust, who ensured each and every ticket holder experienced the absolute time of their lives. Dear Freddie showed us inside his heart...and we will love him forever for it.

Try some Bowie , a superstar in his own right. I recommend Space Oddity, Star Man , Rebel Rebel, Let's Dance ,Heroes , Modern Love , Life on Mars, Ziggy Stardust & the Spiders from Mars, Changes.. & many more! Freddie & Bowie were also friends, going back to when they both were young & struggling. Bowie sang a duet of Under Pressure with Annie Lennox at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992. It was stunning! She was a great singer, you may know her as part of a duo,The Eurythmics ( Sweet Dreams are Made of This.) David Bowie & Annie Lennox are both both great singers , friends of Freddie ,& worth learning about & listening to.

You REALLY need to find the video of their ENTIRE performance at 1986 Wembly LIVE AID concert. Truly bittersweet when he was singing "Who Wants To Live Forever" because at that point he already knew that he was dying. (lots of bands played, but they all agreed that Queen stole the stage. It was his final concert where he still at least APPEARS healthy. He went into a rapid decline after that and eventually passed away. May he TRULY Rest In Peace for his life was far from peaceful)

Queen is made up of four multi-instrumentalists with very diverse influences. In addition, of the four, three members sing. Drummer Roger Taylor was the first member of Queen to record a solo album and maintains an independent career to this day. On his first LP, Fun in Space, Roger sang and played all the instruments except 50% of the synthesizers. Man on Fire (Strange Frontier / 1984) is my favorite song by him. Reps for Queen threatened Vanilla Ice with a copyright infringement lawsuit. In the end, they agreed to a private settlement, although there are articles that claim he paid 4 million for the rights. So Instead of going to court, or paying royalties, Vanilla Ice bought the rights to “Under Pressure” and gave credit to Bowie and Queen on “Ice Ice Baby". Songwriting credits still go to Queen and Bowie. When Ice Ice Baby first came out, Queen fans were furious to hear the copied riff.

FYI - Queen/Bowie released Under Pressure in 1981. This concert at Rock Montreal is the first time that the song is performed live by Queen. Sadly, Freddie & Bowie never performed it live together. But! Bowie did perform it with Queen featuring Annie Lennox at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992. Food for thought 👉 Ice Ice Baby was released in 1990 .. That wanker V.I. stole the bass line claiming it was his!! Ummm NO! 😡

Freddie wasn't lit during this concert. He was pissed as hell! The band had agreed to let a movie film company film the 2 Montreal concerts but the film crew got in the band's way both backstage and during the concert. The director even scolded the audience to remain in their seats during the concert and not be loud. That really pissed off the band and especially Freddie. )n the 2nd-night of the two nights in Montreal, Freddie purposely did something to screw up the continuity of the film by changing his clothes out of his t-shirt, jeans, socks, and Adidas. He came back on stage wearing a neckerchief, wristband, white, tight booty shirt, and nothing else. No shirt, no socks, and no shoes. BTW - those weren't adlibs but part of the original song. It was originally recorded as a duet between Freddie and David Bowie. with the band Queen To listen to the original, watch this video (it is a mash-up of two separate concerts since Freddie and David Bowie never sang it live together.)
