This song (from 1995) was written because there were increasing numbers of teenage (and child) runaways in korea during that time, due to school/academic and familial pressures, corporal punishments, anxiety and stress. Seo Taiji himself ran away from home often growing up, so he had a lot of empathy for them. You probably noticed that the verses are from the teens perspective and the chorus is from the parents perspective. Apparently (some news sources reported that) the release of this song actually had a ripple effect in reducing the rate of runaways, which is so great to think that its message was received. Cypress Hill actually knows about the song and the similarities (lots of people accused ST&B of copying them), but they didn’t mind it at all.

Here you go - BTS - Come Back Home Live (Remake of Seo Taiji song) w/Eng. Subs - kzitem.info/news/bejne/l5qP3puGgJibnpw BTS Rapline are the best. In my honest and very biased opinon. That doesn't make me wrong. BTS are the ones that drew me in and I fell in love with the genre because of them. I'm very picky about who I listen to though. I want to hear rappers that have depth and aren't talking about drugs, money, and sex. I want meaningful lyricism. Just like RM, SUGA, and J-Hope. Seo Taiji is another one. I'm sure there are many more. I really like Tablo from Epic High, but I haven't heard much Epic High. I also like Tiger JK, but once again I only know one song with RM. I can't help that I love the BTS rapline.

Fun fact: they were BTS back in 90’s. Probably more influential than BTS is to korean teenagers these days. Most of their songs talk about social issues and how younger generation should stand up against old customs. They debuted in 1992, and south korea was barely out of military dictatorship. Whole society ran like a military. In school, teachers were superiors, and students were subordinates. It was perfectly acceptable for a teacher to beat the crap out of student for whatever reason. It was brutal growing up as a teenager in 90’s korea. Seo tai ji was sensational because their song talk about standing up against older generation and fight for freedom and fairness in school, home, and etc. some of their songs were deemed unappropriated for teenagers and had age-restriction and couldn’t be broadcasted on tv. 90’s korea was like china. Everything was under control by government, and students were controlled by teachers. Teachers randomly do a bag check, if seo taiji’s song tape is found in the bag, you are dead and they beat the crap out of you… some may ask, are parents ok with that? Rather than complaining to school about teacher beating up their children, they apologize for not raising their kids well at home. That’s why brainwash is dangerous. It sounds crazy now even in korea’s standard, but those were perfectly norm back than… At the same time, this sensation became another social issue because it produced a lot of runaway teenagers because kids started to rebel from school and home as well… That’s where this song particularly comes in… I remember it was released in a winter of 1995. Winter is a brutal season for runaway teenagers, and this song actually brought a lot of them back to home… And this was the end of this band. They disbanded on January of 1996. One of them, Yang hyunsuk, later created his own kpop label called YG, and started producing many kpop groups like bigbang, 2ne1, blackpink, and etc. when psy released gangnam style, he was under YG as well. Even to these days, seo taiji is regarded as most influential figure in korean pop history, and that’s why these young generation still knows his songs after 30+ years…

Yup, KPop starts with Seo Taiji. He did not directly invent it, but he became the precedent, inspiration, impetus & template for what KPop was to become. There would be no BTS in existence without him. He did help popularize rock, metal & hiphop to South Korea. Especially hiphop. Yes, those western genres were already there, he just magnified them even way more, especially with his socially-conscious lyrics, which had been a risky career move on his part. You should also try to find the live rap metal & EDM versions of "Come Back Home" from his concerts in the 2000's, which are also here on KZitem. But think about this for a second ... Seo Taiji is first & foremost a rock/metal musician, yet KPop idol music became more pop, hiphop & R&B. That is the irony. But it is also plausible, as KPop likely became more widely acceptable perhaps because it is not in the rock/metal genre. Who knows how long & how popular KPop would have been if it was rock/metal. And then it would have NOT been called KPop, which is actually a western reference of Korean idol industry music. You should also watch, maybe even react to, his Time Traveler 2017 25th anniversary concert, featuring BTS, which is 2.5 hours long. He now considers BTS as his protoge, not just because BTS is popular but because they share the same sentiment of bringing serious social & political messages in their songs. I hope you react to more Seo Taiji, both his hiphop & metal stuff, as well as his rock, symphonic, ballads & electronic stuff, which you can pretty much find all that here on YT.

I know most comments is and will be about Sao and BTS. So I will add that Sao Taiji and Boys only lasted 4 years bc it become to much. Also they stoped get along. But impact that they left was huge. I saw that people write about Sao Taiji 25 anniversary, so maybe more info Sao wanted to do something special for anniversary and he was alone, like there is no Boys this time, so he decided that he will ask someone to be his guest and he choose BTS, bc he said that he feld the most connected to them then another bands bc of their underdog story and topics that they were talking in their songs. Then as promotion of his concert he asked them to do his song, that is why they did "Come back home" they choose this song bc it was big and important song for His carrier. They actually remixed it and changed some lines. It has MV actually when you write BTS "Come back home" it should show, (it is on Stone music entertainment channel). I can't really recomment rapper from my country, bc I listen to 90s hip hop from my country, this was the best era here too for me, like USA rap, I like this times the most. I actually can't listen to anything that now is popular bc it is so plain and like frow and breats are like bare minimum minimum and voices! Like this people don't have voices that sound good ehh.... And there is a second reason, my language is very hard in sound, like most forginers say that it have very sharp sound. Hmm so I actually don't know how rap songs would sound in your ears. Hmm also bc I only listen to old stuff I can show you how looked rap when it started in my country in early 90s, first big songs that now are classic hmm it was like 1995, when it become something more then 'you in your room' or 'you and your boys from hood', first songs/albums that really get some motion. Actually first big group was making hardcore psycho rap hehe... And second the biggest name was rapper that did more typical american fun rap, a lot remixes from pop songs and choures with singing, some party songs, etc. So I listen more Korean rap this days and of course it is all bc of BTS. I like Tiger JK, I saw that people recommend him, but his wife is great to she raps and sings Yoon Mirae, they actually have group together with one more guy that is called MFBTY, it is fun music, hip hop. RM actually collabed with them few times. I like G-Dragon music but he didn't come out with anything from like 2015. He have very specific voice, a little like Sao, more on high side, but I actually like it, some people don't know how to think about it. He was in military from 2017 and come out like 2 years ago, so people say he will come with music soon, He is active artist from 94 do yeah... He is in Idol band too so he dosen't have that much solo stuff but there is few albums, they are fun. Aside from his band ane solo stuff he actually did a lot of producing for another people. We will see if he comes back, it will be big deal if this happens. People have different opinion of him bc his band Big bang have one of the most troubled history in kpop. I would recomment song "Rosario" by Epik high, if you didn't hear before, it have feature of Zico and CL, both very know and big names in Korea. Also some more light but still in genre "Don't" by Hwasa and Loco.

Can't wait for your reaction to BTS' remake version and you should react to their live performance too 🔥(they performed that remake in the 4th muster 2018) Seo Taiji is basically the founder of kpop and actually, he did a 25th anniversary concert in 2017 with BTS, it's great and it's on KZitem but you can also search the performances with BTS since the whole concert is like 2 hours and 20 minutes long. They performed there Comeback home too but the original version. That day Seo Taiji proclaimed as BTS his successors and passing the torch to them and said "this is your generation now" Seo Taiji and his group were the first Korean artists to empower their generation and speak on things that they were told to steer away from which is exactly what BTS has been doing since their debut and continue to do now. Seo Taiji is honorably referred to as “문화 대통령” which translates to the “president of culture” and is known as essentially setting the standard of what k-pop is today. Throughout his career, Taiji has not been afraid of switching it up, jumping from genre to genre and he was not being afraid of criticizing the South Korean government and addressing societal issues, making him one of the most censored artists of his time. I think he saw that on BTS and that's why he proclaimed BTS as his successors after all those years in his career and he knew they will succeed. 💜

Ok i see you've done this. Do the BTS version of it, please. If I had to describe the difference between them, I would say - there's a Led Zeppelin song called, "No Quarter"... It's beautiful and melodious and kinda soulful? Then there's a version of that song done by Tool, I don't know if you've heard of them. But they make it intense. It doesn't take away from the song as much as it shows it in a new, darker light... Ok that was a long explanation for two completely different genres and countries, but the effect, i feel, is pretty similar. This one is a bit light and casual, the BTS one grabs at your heart and screams at you in Jin's high note.

By listening to Korean popular music in 1994, you would know that it was a very unfamiliar and shocking music to us at the time. At that time, foreign hip-hop was only for a small group of manias. It was a music that we had heard and received negative reviews from conservative Korean music critics, but it was a groundbreaking music and incident that advanced K-pop to the next level.
