Sigur Rós will reach in to the depths of your soul and drag out that one tear that’s been hiding behind your kidney, They make you cry but you don’t even know what you’re crying about. You just know you must have needed it.

I was expecting him to say, “No. It’s because it’s their own language they invented.” I first heard Sigur Rós about 8 months ago, and then saw them live in Austin. I was utterly gutted. A guy sitting next to me looks over with tears streaming down his cheeks and just did the “yeah..you get it.” nod. Just…stunning.

@@jillferry-williams9409 absolutely! They sing some songs in their native Icelandic and some songs in the made up language called “hopelandic” which basically just came about when Jonśi would write music before he had lyrics written and just sort of hum words, but it sounded nice so they just went with it. If you don’t speak Icelandic it’s easy to just think that all the songs are in hopelandic but if you understand Icelandic you can easily tell which songs they actually wrote real lyrics for. This particular song was written in actual Icelandic. :)

The feels... thank you for showing your appreciation for music. The way you describe music is the way I describe home, which to me is a place of consciousness born from within the frequencies of sound. We all have a love for one thing in common, no matter who we are, the one thing we can never forget even when dimentia is present, there is always one love; music.

Very first time I ever heard Sigur Rós was at a friend's house. It was mid-day and I'd just arrived after a 2.5 hour drive. He and I were chatting as his playlists were going in the background. I have no clue what song it was, I just suddenly became exceedingly aware of what was coming out of the speakers. "She needs to chill the fuck out," I said in exaggerated agitation in an attempt to diffuse my actual agitation at the grating noise. My friend laughed and gave some info as he walked over to turn it down a bit. I still don't listen to them despite most of the sonic palette being up my alley. The End.

I was dating a hippie girl for a minute in the early 00s, "hey i got us tickets for a show at the paramount, New band from iceland" pre internet, sounds good i love the venue. 5 minutes in i was welling up, their music live is almost indescribable.
