Great reaction Harri! Solomon was awesome! There's a video of him singing with Gillian Welch, doing her song "Valley of Tears" that is just phenomenal. Highly recommended.

Released in 1962, this tune of Solomon's helped shape the sound of R&B and he was one of the foundling fathers of Soul music in the 60's. This tune is amazing. The horn section, the back up singers, the guitars and Solomon's dynamic vocals are so compatible in this dynamic hit. Absolutely delightful. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and John. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

He recorded his original decades ago and singers’ voices change over the years. He sounds better than a lot of them out there.

He really jazzed it up for the live show but you have to hear the studio version to get the real intended vibe of the song. It's not supposed to be a happy song.

Solomon is a monster but this version is too up beat. Original version is wonderful. Good musicians.

I prefer the studio version. Solomon Burke is very much underrated. I highly recommend "Just Out of Reach" and "Got to Get You Off My Mind".

Sock it to 'em live version which suffers in comparison with the studio version. This was the first Solomon Burke single I bought back in 1962 and was the start of a love affair between me and Solomon's music. I bought all of his singles output up to 1966. I especially liked his gospel tinged delivery. Try "Goodbye Baby (Baby Goodbye)" kzitem.info/news/bejne/2Yl5mqWKkqSqoYY Unbeknownst to me I was starting another affair with Bert Berns (aka Bert Russell). Bert wrote and/or produced loads of great songs (see his Wikipedia entry) including "Cry To Me". He was also involved in the other superb version of this song by Betty Harris from 1963 kzitem.info/news/bejne/uYeZrHyOaaB8eHo Deep soul!!

Does anyone know who owns the publishing rights to this song? None other than Paul McCartney. It’s listed on his production and music publishing company MPL. MPL Communications. There is a list of all the song catalogs he owns. As the years pass he is acquiring rights to the songs he and Lennon wrote. He now owns the Lennon/McCartney songs up to 1967 now. Unfortunately Yoko Ono sold the Lennon estate ability to acquire John’s part so she couldn’t sue Sony like Paul did. He owns numerous music from all genres. One song I was surprised to see in his catalog was, Piece of My Heart which was made famous by Janis Joplin. No wonder he’s a billionaire.

Not a fan of this version, Harri. Apologies. I'd like to recommend another song from Solomon, later in his life, and over-flowing with soul - it's called "After All These Years." Harri, after you hear it, you're going to want to leave the music room and go listen to it with Mrs. Best.

John - Great pick showcasing Solomon Burke one of my favorites. Harri, You squirming around the age of 70 had you nearly falling down the aged rabbit hole. Great escape and comeback😄. One is only as old as they perceive themselves. Dear septuagenarians, we party at the same place and time again this week!🤣 Just kidding my friend and leader.
