The amount of vocal range and power Chris Cornell uses on this song is just unbelievable.

Chris Cornell (RIP) is a legend. I love the raw power and drive in the instrumentals and the endurance, power and range in Chris' voice. As far as an interpretation, here's my guess: the song is about drug abuse. The "birth ritual" is when he has just used, feels high, feels better, "alive." (The "birth ritual.") However, then, the drug wears off, then comes the "down," back to a low, depression, etc., the "death ritual." The fact that he repeats, "ritual, ritual," over and over, is symbolic of the fact that this is a cycle. The "birth ritual" ( using drugs, the high) and the "death ritual" (the "coming down" as the effects of the drug wears off), repeat, over and over in his life. I could be totally wrong; if I'm correct, then it would be a "sad" song (as I certainly don't condone drug use), but I'm just trying to interpret what I think the artist is trying to artistically convey. Ty, Fay! Glad you liked it and interpreted it more positively than me. :) 👍
