As has been said, this is David Lee Roth the original frontman for Van Halen, after about a little over 10 years of success a rift developed between David and Eddie and Alex Van Halen. Not really sure of the circumstances but IMO David started believing the hype and got too big for his britches thinking VH couldn’t get along without him and the band disagreed and they split apart. VH took on Sammy Hagar(Hay-gar) and kept right on rocking, the flavor of the music changed but was still good, David had a short lived semi successful solo career and basically dropped from the music landscape, eventually Sammy and VH had their own musical differences and Sammy left and David rejoined the band. Eddie Van Halen can be touted as the G.O.A.T but again the title is subjective, “ to each his own” so there will never be a complete consensus as to who the GOAT is but Eddie ranks right up there with Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Prince, hell the list goes on and on with too many great guitarists to name them all and why worry? Just be thankful we’ve had all those greats to listen to through the decades! 🤘👍😎✌️

David Lee Roth was the original front man for Van Halen. When the band split there was a time where a lot of people who did and didn't like Sammy joining them were calling the band Van Hagar. Dave also released a solo album at the time with a young Steve Vai on guitar. One of the very best rock songs of the '80s by one of the very best rock bands of the '80s. "Can't Drive 55" was made after David Lee Roth, the lead singer of Van Halen on "Jump," left the band and was replaced by Sammy Hagar. As far as I'm concerned, Van Halen became just another loud rock band once Sammy Hagar joined them. Most of their best songs were all done before David Lee Roth left the band. Eddie Van Halen, the dark-haired dude in the yellow top who played the guitar solo in this song, is considered one of the great rock guitarists of all time. Sadly, he died recently.

Great reaction. Van Halen is up there with my all time favorite bands so I really feel like I dropped the ball on you for this one. I was one of the ones spouting off about listening to VH before Sammy but it didn't even occur to me that you didn't know about them having another vocalist. My bad, let me make it up to you with some VH essentials.. 1. Eddie the guitarist and Alex the drummer are brothers. The band is named after them. 2. David Lee Roth is the original vocalist. He was trained in martial arts and used a lot of that in his performances. 3. VH were massive through the 70s and 80s and pretty much changed the face of rock with Eddie's innovative guitar playing. He is easily on the list of top 3-5 at most guitarists of all time, and has been voted #1on a list of top 100. 3. You don't really get to appreciate his abilities in this song because it more synth oriented, being released in the 80s.(Eddie is a classically trained pianist and self-taught guitarist, which is pretty mind boggling when you see what he can do) It is probably their most mainstream song of the Roth era and it has been in movies, commercials, games..I'd be surprised if you never heard it. 4. DLR is known for his dramatic flair and being one of the best front men in rock. Sammy is no slacker in that dept. Also very high energy and the better vocalist IMO, but...Dave is Dave. He brought a certain something to VH for sure. Sammy joined in 86, this song is from 84. 5. Watching Eruption solo, live without a net performance is absolutely mandatory for you to understand why EVH is considered a rock/guitar God! I see a few people have dropped links already. 6. Great VH video choices- Hot For Teacher, Panama, Running with the Devil with DLR. With Sammy on vocals (also known as Van Hagar) Poundcake, Dreams, Right Now, Finish What You Started. There are so many songs of theirs that are before the video era so there is a ton of audio I recommend. Mean Streets, Intruder/Little Guitars, Ice Cream Man, Ain't Talking Bout Love are a few. 7. Sammy's name is pronounced with a long A. 😊 PS, I've been singing Radar Love for 40 some years. Get used to it. 😂

The front man and Lead singer is David Lee Roth who sang Jump, and The Singer who sung I can't drive 55 is Sammy Hagar. Both sang with Van Halen, David Lee Roth first, then Sammy Hagar The song Jump came out in 1984

Hahhahahahahah!!!! It's funny that you say that about the 'hair'... The 80's was known as the 'Big Hair Band' era... I was a teen going into adulthood during the greatest decade for music, movies, and probably America overall.... Growing up 80's was awesome!

Any van Halen after this album Sammy will be singing on. This was David Lee Roth singing. He was their first singer. The Sammy Haggar Van Halen try, Dreams, Right Now, Poundcake, and about 100 songs with the word Love in them. Just pick their most popular video with Sammy. Hate this song, haha. Says Jump more times than Michael Jackson say I'm Bad in Bad. Both songs drive me to murder. Lol

Not this song per say. But THIS IS VAN HALEN! David Lee Roth. Best years for VH And in the 80's this was their commercial hit and Eddie Van Halen got a lot of flack for the keyboards in this song by the VH fans.

The first 10 years of their existence their lead singer was this guy David Lee Roth until 1985. After that Sammy Hagar joined the band as lead singer until he was fired in 1995 (IIRC). They never charted again. Biggest mistake Eddie Van Halen ever made. You will find two camps among Van Halen extremists: Van Halen or Van “Hagar”. I like them both, and thus either side jumps on me. They have a huge catalog of hits that I think you would enjoy. Ignore the person who said that they only had a couple hits with Hagar. They actually charted top 40 hits and huge tours way more with Hagar than Roth.

Lead singer david lee roth directed this video, and was just as forward-thinking as an Entertainer as Eddie was as a musician. the video cost a whopping $400 to make, but ran on MTV CONSTANTLY, generating Huge $$$$$$$$$ for the burgeoning network. Despite being great success, this album spelled the END of the David Lee Roth era for VH purists, but VH soldiered on with lead singer Sammy Hagar, formerly of Montrose. The new Incarnation of the band allowed Eddie to expand musically as the primary songwriter, penning more keyboard-friendly melodies that were far beyond David's vocal limitations. As much as Sammy still gets the snarky comments from his constant detractors, Van Halen kept on growing its fan base, selling millions of albums and charting hit after hit. Sammy's vocals are outrageously underrated, though many and many a lead singer would be hard-pressed to emulate his vocals. on keyboards: after this particular song utterly destroyed many peoples' preconceptions of keyboards in rock music, the brass tone Eddie used became as important a voice on keyboards as the piano voice. That brass tone was what sold a keyboard for the next decade and more. if you were a guitarist you had to play eruption to prove your chops, and if you were a keyboard player, you had to be able to play Jump. Eddie was simply a musical giant hiding behind an "aw, shucks" smile.

If you love swag, DLR is your man. Defined swag and he ruled the early 80’s. Dumbest thing he ever did was leave VH. Eddie Van Halen is always in the discussion for best guitarist to ever draw breath. I personally love Ed’s style but it is a very personal thing so you hear EVH, SRV, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix mentioned when you speak of best guitarists of all time. They all rock and kick ass in their own style.

If you wanna check out a good vibes song when Van Halen was with Sammy Hagar (most people refer to that era as Van Hagar), check out Summer Nights (link kzitem.info/news/bejne/r6d9nZyOsIqJqWk ) It's so much fun watching them perform because they actually love what they are doing. Eddie Van Halen the Guitarist of the band is known for smiling all the time when playing his guitar ALWAYS. Eddie was one of the greatest Guitarists ever, and there is no Guitarist that has influenced the Metal genre more than Eddie. You can see by his solo on Summer Nights what he did, he didn't invent playing like that but he definitely perfected it and made it famous. Sadly Eddie died last year in October, still can't believe that happened it feels so unreal. But he will live on forever through the music he created. Great Reaction. (btw the Drummer is Eddies Older brother Alex Van Halen, hence the band name is Van Halen).

Lead guitar player Eddie Van Halen was a musical protege` . He was a competitive classical pianist in his child hood. I once heard him say in an interview that he really wanted to play the drums so bad that he took on a newspaper route and saved his money to buy a set of drums. He continued his paper route so he had money , and while doing so his brother Alex got so good on the drums , that he gave them to Alex, bought a guitar , and created his own playing style ( tap harmonics ) . This singer ( David Lee Roth was their original vocalist. The album that this song ( Jump ) was on was the last album before their falling out . The next few were lead by Sammy Hagar , Also , Bassist Michael Anthony is incredible .

This is David Lee Roth. He made Van Halen just like David Ruffin made The Temptations. When he left, Van Halen was never the same. I hope that you will love this song as I do. Fell in love with this song from the first time I heard it back in 1984. Still love it today.

A lot of people consider the band as broken up when they ousted David Lee Roth and added Sammy calling the new band "Van Hagar". Adam Sandler makes a joke about this in the movie The Wedding Singer.

David Lee Roth was in great shape. He was really into martial arts, hence, the jumps and splits. Van Halen wasn't the same without him. I know others will talk about Eddie Van Helen's guitar work but I want to bring to attention his sweet, goofy smile. He was always smiling.
