"How do I know when it's love,.....I can't tell you but it lasts forever" "How does it feel when it's love,.....It's just something you feel together" I wish this song was around when I was coming of age. It would have saved a lot of confusion. 🤷♂

In 1988, many old Van Halen fans called the band 'Van Hagar' after lead singer Sammy Hagar replaced original vocalist David Lee Roth in 1986... because it sounded like a different band. Many accused Hagar of making the band 'soft'... but they didn't realize that Eddie Van Halen wrote all the music and wanted to play more keyboards and synthesizers on Van Halen records. Hagar simply helped w/ the vocal melodies and wrote lyrics to Eddie's songs. David Lee Roth was not a fan of Eddie Van Halen playing keyboards and tried to discourage it. In fact, he didn't even want to record 'Jump' (Van Halen's #1 hit single) because it was keyboard-heavy... In contrast, Sammy Hagar loved Eddie's skills on keyboards and had the vocal range to make the songs come to life... Hagar encouraged Eddie to write whatever he wanted and they would work together on which songs to work on... If the music was no good, the albums w/ Hagar on vocals would never have gone to #1 on the US charts (They did BTW) "When it's love" was one of Van Halen's biggest hits in 1988 (#5 on the US singles chart) ... The 2nd Van Halen album w/ Sammy Hagar on vocals was named 'OU812'... in response to David Lee Roth's first solo album "Eat 'em and smile" (They felt he was shading Van Halen, so their response was, "Oh you ate one too?" 🤣) and Van Halen's 'OU812' sold 4x platinum in the US and delivered another single "Finish what ya started" (#13 on the US singles chart) which was almost like a country song (One of the only Van Halen songs that Sammy Hagar played guitar on) Despite the huge success, Van Halen did encounter the humbling experience in 1988 headlining the 'Monsters of Rock' summer tour... One of the opening bands was Metallica and they were killing it live on the tour... Van Halen would play to half-full venues on that tour because people left early after experiencing Metallica; it was similar to when Van Halen opened for Black Sabbath in 1978 and were sending the crowds home early... Sammy Hagar was impressed and publicly stated that he knew Metallica would be huge after that tour.

It brings a smile to my face that you ladies love VH likenI do. They were fun with Roth on vocals, but I think Hagar made them more versatile musically. Plus how can anyone hate on a band where generally everybody is about girls, love, cars, or partying.
