Ok, VoicelPlay: Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci (rhymes with Gucci) , bass singer and walking bass guitar; Layne Stein vocal percussion and beatbox; Cesar de la Rosa newest member of the group - masses of hair and sang the high notes here,;Eli (say it as ellie) Jacobson, ex rock band bald tenor, master of riffs and runs; the guest here is Omar, the young looking guy with a great voice. He appears with them quite often. I hope that helps. In the last year or two, two previous member left,; they appear in older videos and are Earl Elkins Jr, hefty guy, sometimes bearded, sometimes not and with a high tenor that Geoff describes as a laser beam. and then J.None who is the black guy who left recently to sing with and for the US navy. Both were very valued member of the group for many years and are missed but had their own reasons for going. J.None (aka Jesse Nunn) has returned to record a couple more things whilst on leave after his basic training. VoicePlay are often described as a theatre kids of acapella as they are great at the acting side as well as singing, and many have worked for Disney in the past and they're a lot of fun. Welcome to the rabbit hole, you won't regret it.; they have many fans and patrons who will subscribe to hear your reactions. :).

My number 1 is VoicePlay - the variety, the attention to detail, the fact that Layne (beatboxer) and Geoff (bass) do 99% of the arranging (if one is arranging he is also responsible for video and audio premix). They do the costuming, staging, hire makeup usually - sometimes Geoff's wife does the makeup and camera work. They hire an expert for the final audio. Eli (like jelly) is the bald high tenor rock/metal guy who does lighting and video backgrounds (think My Mother Told Me), Cesar is new member to the group with an incredibly clear voice. They lost their baritone to the US Navy (he's now singing with them) but says he'll be back. The fill in the empty slot with featured artists, which is always amazing.

Love people's first time reaction to Voiceplay. There has never been a better time to start reacting to them. They put so much work into every video, and the arranging skills of Geoff, the bass who arranged this with the help of another arranger, and Layne, the beatboxer who arranges basically the other half of their songs, have grown to crazy levels. Check out their version of Queen in 5 minutes or Warriors if you want to see their 2 most recent members to leave, Earl (Big guy with high tenor voice) and J None (the last Baritone who left last year to join the navy).

One of my favorite things is seeing reactors watch and hear Voiceplay for the first time. Left to right when they are standing in the hall. Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci, bass and the arranger of this one with Rob Deitz. Eli (rhymes with jelly) Jacobson, tenor and light and special effects. Omar Cardona, featured, has also done Superstition, Carry On Wayward Son and The Dragonborn Comes with them. Cesar de la Rosa, tenor baritone, joined the group last year and did the highest notes in this one. Layne Stein, beatboxer, originally baritone when the group was formed under a different name in 1997. For the most part, Geoff and Layne take turns each month doing the arrangements. Eli arranged Eleanor Rigby for them and would like to do more. Voiceplay does all genres, dark, scary, silly, dramatic, funny, broadway, disney, they can do it all. As others have said, the lineup has changed in the last two years, Geoff, Layne and Eli will be constants. They are currently one man short and are using featured artists. To see a completely different side of them, react to their version of We Don't Talk About Bruno.

Yup, the third voice in is Omar. Cesar is the guy in the stairwell. Eli (ELLY) has a great voice for rock style music because he once fronted a rock band, but he also has smooth, mellow baritone he displayed in Little Mermaid Medley. Geoff (Jeff) the bass and beatboxer Layne are the last two original VP members from 20+ years ago and they are childhood friends. VP lost two members in about 15 months, one just wanted to leave for personal reasons (first tenor Earl) and baritone J None joined the US Navy but does come back as a guest. For about 18 months now VP had been using guest singers to fill that 5th slot and Eli, the most versatile voice, moves from lead, to 1st tenor, to baritone as needed. Cesar, the young guy with the Mohawk hair, is their newest permanent member and sings bari-tenor. He's J None's replacement. They are the most theatrical of the 3 big a capella groups. Listen to: Hoist the Colours, We Don't Talk About Bruno, Little Mermaid Medely (Geoff's slide alone is worth listening to, but EVERYONE is just amazing in that one), Skyrim theme, HALO theme, I've Got Friends on the Otherside. Geoff also does solo work. Listen to his 16 Tons, Far over the Misty Mountains, House of the Rising Sun, and his most recent release, a remix of the Bill Withers classic, Ain't No Sunshine. Have FUN!

Voiceplay in order of appearance in this video: Eli....(pronounced Elly) Bald guy, Rockstar tenor voice and first person to sing. Cesar (2nd singer...Baritone/tenor...sitting on stairs...big mowhawk) Omar (featured singer...crystal clear tenor) Geoff Castellucci (human subwoofer...long haired guy with the insane bass voice..also has a solo channel) Layne Stein (absolutely maniacal beat boxer with the crazy eyes, does a lot of their arranging) Currently all except Omar are "full" members. Hope that helps! And enjoy the fun of discovering Voiceplay! BTW Geoff has a 5 octave range, and also does his own arranging and arranges for Voiceplay as well. He and Layne do most of the arrangements for the group. He's not just bass. He's the whole package. They are the Theater Kids of Acapella for sure :) To answer your last question, they are normally a 5 person group. A few members have changed over the years, and they are currently down to 4 "full" members and the 5th spot goes to different featured guests, Omar is featured frequently...but they love collaborating with many different people.

The long-haired basso profondo is Geoff Castellucci. His range is extensive, and his vocal agility (ability to flip back and forth between high and low registers at the drop of a hat, jump up or down by multiple octaves, do long slides, etc.) is just obscene. On his solo channel, he does covers where he records 4-5 versions of himself singing all the different parts, some literature reading (notably, Poe), and instructional videos on how to hit low notes. Geoff does nearly half of VoicePlay's arrangements and video editing, plus his own for the solo channel, plus occasionally does arrangements for other groups. He's a beast. Sometime when you get a chance, look up some female reactors watching his cover of Sixteen Tons. They giggle, fan themselves, take off their sweaters, ... sometimes it seems like they're about to drool on themselves. It's great. (He's married, though; his wife has a cameo in Monster Mash.) Vocal Percussion and sound effects are Layne Stein. He's particularly good at making water sounds (see e.g. the Little Mermaid and Moana medleys) but also makes assorted other sounds, and of course the beat. He also does about half of their arrangements and video editing. He can sing quite well, though you don't see him do it in every song. Oh, and he plays violin in Warriors. He has a solo channel, but there isn't that much on it. Eli Jacobson (pronounced /ELL-eee/, because it's short for Eleazar) is the bald tenor with the rock star voice. He usually does the lighting (which was not as noticeable as usual in this video). The guy "in the middle" that you liked so much is Omar Cardona, the featured guest singer. He also performs with them in The Dragonborn Comes, Carry On Wayward Son, and several shorts. I think his brother may be a member of Voctave (an acapella group with more singers in it that does more choral-style stuff). VP has been using featured guest singers even more than usual lately, since Earl (their long-standing bearded countertenor) left. At first I thought VP would eventually replace Earl with somebody new, but lately Cesar (the newest member; in this video he was the guy sitting on the stairs; he has darker skin than the others) has been doing more high tenor singing, so at this point I'm wondering if they're holding out for J-None to return from the Navy and pick up the baritone slot, which is _theoretically_ the slot Cesar's holding right now, to make the group five again. Between Cesar and Eli, whose range also goes reasonably high, maybe they have tenor covered. (And if they need a true soprano for a particular song, they can always do yet another fabulous collab with Rachel.) Besides the members seen in this video, others you'll want to know about are Earl, who was with them for most of the group's history, and J-None, who was around for several years and appears in a lot of their most popular videos. Earl is featured prominently (as the patient) in Queen in 5 Minutes, and J-None has the lead part in Friends on the Other Side. There are a couple of other members who show up in their *really* old stuff (e.g., if you watch their Phantom of the Opera cover -- their oldest video that's really worth watching IMO -- you'll see Tony, as well as Geoff with short hair and Earl with no beard), and of course they've always done more collabs than most groups, so a lot of their videos are "featuring" somebody or another. There are too many featured guest artists to list them all here, but one in particular is worth mentioning: they've featured Rachel Potter a whole bunch of times. She's pretty much a Disney princess. I think they'd have added her to the group if she lived in Orlando.

You'll see different faces for awhile - they usually have 5, occasionally 4 or 6 people in a performance - and right now they have 4 full members. BUT - they've always brought in featured singers, and they are amazing at making it sound like they've been singing with them for years. The bass is Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci - he has a personal channel, check it out to get a real sense of his capabilities. His latest drop is a great place to start - its the old Bill Withers classic, "Ain't No Sunshine." As they were standing in a row - Geoff, then Eli (El-ee), tenor, Omar (guest tenor), Cesar, baritone (but he takes the top note here), and Layne, beatbox. Do listen to Warriors, and to Dragonborn Comes. Or anything that catches your eye, it's all good. But Warriors is one of my favorites. (The Dream On performance was seen as a sequel to Warriors, several years on...)

Layne Stein beat boxer, Eli(Ellee) bald guy, Cesar with the cool hairstyle and Omar the one in the middle... In other videos they have features too but earlier ones will show Earl (usually has fluffy beard)who left after health scare . J. None who is now in the military as a singer.....and in very old videos will have Tony Wakim (beautiful eyes and big eyebrows).. Subscribing in anticipation of more VP... There are several acapella groups but most consider the trifecta of acapella to be Voiceplay, Home Free and Pentatonix. I really enjoyed your enthusiastic reaction-thanks! I am a new subscriber now looking foward to your journey down the Voice Play and Geoff Castellucci rabbit hole. The three top acapella groups have their own unique and wonderful styles ( Pentatonix-Pop, Home Free-Country/Folk, and Voice Play is often referred to as the theater kids of acapella groups). Voice Play members are from Orlando Florida and they all have experience working at Universal and/or Disney theme parks as performers. Voice Play puts a lot of theater detail in their work with their costumes, makeup, acting, vocal arrangements and production and do it on their own most often in a studio owned near Orlando by current beatboxer, Layne, and former singer with the group, Tony. Their Disney covers are the best around (my favorites are "Hoist The Colours" , "Little Mermaid Medley", and "We Don't Talk About Bruno"). They are all enthusiastic gamers that have some excellent covers of "Skyrim Dragonborn Comes", "My Mother Told Me", "Hallo", and "Warriors". They also cover the classics-- you would love "Carry On My Wayward Son" or Prince's "Kiss). Deep Bass singer, Geoff (pronounced "Jeff") Castellucci has his own channel and his solo work will blow you away! They have had a few staff changes over the years and also have frequent guest performers that they have known since their high school drama club and choir days or from college and working at the theme parks together. Omar Cardona is in this one and several other videos (He shared an apartment with bushy haired singer, Cesar De La Rosa, when they were working together performing at Disney World). Omar is very well liked and a great fit with Voice Play so many of us "Voice Players" are hoping he will join Voice Play permanently. All of the guest singers are so talented and work so well with Voice Play.

Okay so the core members of Voiceplay are Layne (Beatboxer), Geoff (like 'jeff' - Bass), Eli (like L-E, Rock Tenor), and Cesar (bari-tenor, 'the weekend' looking guy). Omar was the younger guy in the middle who you said you really liked. Voiceplay has had some line-up changes during quarantine. So their previous high tenor was a blonde buff guy named Earl, he left in 2020 for health reasons I believe. And their previous baritone prior to Cesar was J-None, he left to join the military last summer but came back to do a cameo in their Halloween vid last year. They also feature a lot of gust vocalists including some awesome females. Definitely check out more of them.

He also guested with them on Carry On Wayward Son, Superstition, and Dragonborn. Perhaps he'll soon be declared a permanent member. His brother EJ Cardona guested on Go The distance. Second tenor is Eli Jacobson. Baritone is Cesar De La Rosa. He replaced JNone, who left last year. Vocal percussionist and backup baritone/bass is Layne Stein. Low bass is Geoff Castellucci. Several of Voiceplay's vids have various other folks (male and female) as guests, either because they're auditioning for an open spot or just for the fun of it.

VoicePlay lost 2 members over the last couple of years. Earl (can see in almost all older stuff but was lead in Queen in 5 Min) had a health scare while on tour and retired to be with family. J None (gorgeous baritone) was recruited by the US Navy for his vocal talents. Cesar de la Rosa had sung with VP and got the call as a member last fall (he took Earl's slot). J None said he would be back and VP has not filled his slot - he did come back while on leave and took the lead in Friends on the Other Side. Meantime, VP features artists that mesh well (Geoff the bass and Layne the beatboxer) split the song arrangements near 50-50. Whoever is doing the arranging also handles the costuming, staging, video/camera work and pre-mix audio. Eli is the bald tenor with the rock/metal flavor to his sound, he has added lighting to his list of talents and is great working with video backgrounds (My Mother Told Me) and their latest (Imagine Dragon) Enemy where the featured artist is AleXa (K-Pop singer won Best American Song a month or so ago, but while American, lives in South Korea. Her video was sent to VP and Eli incorporated her video into VoicePlays flawlessly. When they need a female voice, Rachel Potter is superb (everything from Phantom of the Opera to Little Mermaid (Disney) to Wicked (Broadway), Emoni Wilkins (also in Wicked), Adriana Arellano (We're Good, Frozen, You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch), Ashley Diane (We Don't Talk About Bruno, If I Were a Rich Man/Girl). Fellows run the gamut from DeeJay Young (Man in the Mirror, You're My Best Friend and more), John PInto (Unchained Melody, It Ain't Me), Jose Rosario Jr (Hoist the Colours, My Mother Told Me), Omar Cardona (Superstition, Carry On My Wayward Son, Dragonborn Comes Skyrim, Dream On). Geoff also has a solo channel with well over a dozen videos - I found Geoff last Oct when a little window on You Tube showed up with a blurb for The Monster Mass. I watched and was hooked, found VoicePlay and here I sit sucking it up. The most recent Geoff's songs are Big Bad John, Sixteen Tons, Ain't No Sunshine, and latest is an Elvis song, Way Down. Some of my favorite VP songs are Warriors, Hoist the Colors, Halo, Dragonborn Comes Skyrim, Enemy, Tennessee Whiskey, Road Trip (get the 9 million viewer one) and Play that Funky Music White Boy (both on Sing-Off 2014), Friends on the Other Side, Queen in 5 Min, Mission: Jingle Bells, We're Done, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, We Don't Talk About Bruno, Just Sing (turn on captions so you know who all these people are and what they've done.)

You would be correct in saying Geoff is deeper than Avi . Geoff the bass Layne the beatboxer and Eli the bald tenor you will see in every video "the weekend" or Cesar will be in there more recent videos and all videos released in the foreseeable future. 2 members left during 2020 those being j none and earl Which shortly after Cesar joined to fill the gap a bit . Before j none there was a guy called Tony who is in there much earlier stuff however he left and was replaced by j none . So to simplify it it went Geoff Layne Eli Tony earl then Geoff Layne Eli j none earl then just Geoff Layne Eli then Geoff Layne earl Cesar and whenever there's not 5 members they ask a guest to fill in as the 5th member there most popular/common guest is Rachel potter who is in probably 1/3 of there songs .

#MayTheForthBeWithYou If you are a fan of A Nightmare Before Christmas, you should check out their MANY covers from it. "Oogie Boogie Song", "This Is Halloween", "What's This?". Also should give Home Free a try, also fire A Capella Group. "Ring Of Fire" or "Man of Constant Sorrow" (the later if you have seen "O' Brother Where Art Thou" is AMAZZBALLS!)

I have listened to many, many reactions and yours was one of the best. Mainly because of what you said in the beginning about doing the reaction completely blind. Your reaction was spot on, amusing, enjoyable and as real as life. Thank you. I am looking forward to your next blind reaction of Voiceplay, who is a hundred times better than Pentatonix.

The main difference between Pentatonix vs Voiceplay and Home Free to me is that Pentatonix focuses on blending and are absolute masters at the wall of sound. Home Free and Voiceplay showcase their bass boys more often. Avi (and later Matt Salle) are just as amazing as Geoff(Voiceplay) and Tim Faust(Home Free). All three groups are amazing in their own right, so many talented people.

in some cases flipping the video helps with copyright issues. well, distorting the video helps. flipping and fading is the best option to disrupt the video in my opinion.

@@PoppaPryce thanks for the explanation I don’t think you’ll have copyright issues with voiceplay but I’m not a creator

@@PoppaPryce That is a good option and much needed for Pentatonix videos as they have a difficult contract with SME and reactors have a hard time (especially recently) reacting to Pentatonix because of the copywrite blocks. Such a shame as Pentatonix love their fans and reactors and the issues are with that contract; not them. Home Free does not have problems with the copywrite blocks and Voice Play does everything themselves without a contract and make it easy to post and share.

@@PoppaPryce voicePlay is completely self produced, and do not block. On a few occasions people have been slowed for a day or two, because someone sponsored production. Occasionally you will get notifications that there is a copyright from Kage Productions (for Geoff’switk) or a few other voiceplay aliases. But they don’t block. They do not have a record label, and do not have a publicity team, so they want people to view these. But flipping the video is the best way to avoid copyright because we can still see what’s going on. It’s very frustrating to those of us who enjoy the group to have someone mask out a portion of the screen. They are also very visually appealing, and those of us who watch the videos rather obsessively know what visual cues are going to trigger a reaction so we watch the reactor instead of the video!

I like the group but their bass singer puts in his 2 cents in all the wrong places. It is almost like someone hit a wrong note. Great sound otherwise.

As a Arowsmith fan, they could have done much better. They took the soul out. Great voices, but destroyed the song. Surprised by the base.

Maybe because I’m not a metal/hard rock fan, but I actually do prefer this version. I can hear the lyrics which are so amazing that they deserve to be heard. Nothing against the other group it’s just not my thing. But to me they put the soul into it they just took the screaming out.
