VERY UNDERRATED Hair band from late 80s....
@sumonjamal1653

Winger was unfairly dismissed as an 80's 'hair band' in the 90's and ridiculed for their 'pretty boy' bassist/ vocalist Kip Winger... even Metallica took shots at Winger in the music video for 'Nothing else matters'... But Winger was a band consisting of top tier musicians - Reb Beach (guitar, who now plays in Whitesnake), Paul Taylor (guitar/ keyboards) and Rod Morgenstein (drums) Kip Winger (real name Charles Winger) was an accomplished bassist in the 80's... recorded and toured w/ Alice Cooper. He wanted his own band in 1987 and formed Winger - I believe they wanted to follow in the steps of arena rockers like Journey and Triumph. The record companies would not sign Winger but after some trickery, Atlantic Records signed the band and released their self-titled album in 1988... it charted at #21 in the US and sold platinum w/ MTV hits - 'Headed for a heartbreak'... 'Seventeen' ... 'Madalaine' ... 'Hungry'... 🔥🔥 In 1990, Winger's 2nd album 'In the heart of the young' also sold platinum in the US, charting at #15. More hits came - "Easy come easy go" ... 'Miles away'... "Can't get enough"... However, music was getting tougher and heavier w/ bands like Metallica, Skid Row, Guns N' Roses... and Winger got the dubious distinction of being a 'soft' band... Kip Winger was also schooled in classical music and a trained ballet dancer (His stage moves in videos were showing his skills on the stage) Then, grunge rock took over in 1992 and 80's rock bands were banished in favor of heavier, raw bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Without Paul Taylor in the line-up, Winger finally released 3rd album 'Pull' in 1993... and it was completely ignored. Making matters worse, the MTV cartoon 'Beavis and Butt-head' debuted and had a dorky, picked-on character named 'Stewart' who wore a Winger shirt... The band claimed that Winger's record sales stopped cold after 'Beavis and Butt-head'... and the band broke up. In 1996, Kip Winger suffered a tragedy when his 27 yr old wife Beatrice Winger died in a car accident... Kip Winger recorded his 1997 solo album 'This conversation seems like a dream' dedicated to his late wife. In 2006, Winger finally reunited to record the album 'IV' and began touring w/ Kip Winger, Beach, Morgenstein and guitarist John Roth... With limited touring, Winger eventually released 3 more albums - 'Karma' (2009)... "Better days comin' " (2014) and 'Seven' (2023, featuring Paul Taylor on the record)

Guitar work on this track is awesome! End 80's, I was 18 and started living together with my girlfriend, later wife, later ex-wife 🤣 in Amsterdam and there we had MTV, Headbanger's ball, this song was heavily featured back then. Hi there beautiful ladies! Another good song. Yeah, I remember Winger. One of the bands that I played in back in the 80's, we knew guys from the bands Cinderella and Britney Fox, and I remember when Cinderella played a concert in Philadelphia as the head lining band and the two bands that opened for them on their tour were Winger and The Bullet Boys. I liked Winger. All of them were very good musicians. This was a good song by them here. It got a lot of airplays on MTV. The lead singer Kip Winger is the one who wrote the song. This song and the album it was on was their debut album which came out in 1988. He was one of those pretty boys that all the girls liked. But there were a few of those kinds of guys in the 80's and 90's bands. You got Kip Winger, Jon Bon Jovi, Bret Michaels (from the band Poison) and Joey Tempest (from the band Europe) just to name a few. Just watch the band Europe's song titled "The Final Countdown" and you'll see what I mean. Before Kip started the band Winger, he played bass guitar for the band Alice Cooper. That other band The Bullet Boys, that was another good band. Their song and video titled: "Smooth Up in Ya" is a very good rocking tune, and it also got a lot of airplays on MTV as well. The lead singer (Marq Torien) is another showman like David Lee Roth of Van Halen. But the lyrics for the song aren't as bad as the title for the song sounds. lol I think you all would like it. Great job ladies! 👍🎵🎵🎼😎❤❤

Unusually short comment for being me: Winger's most recent album "Seven" is THE greatest release of 2023. You do NOT want to miss it. The band is still the same four guys: Kip Winger on bass and vocals, Paul Taylor on keyboards, (these two were previously in Alice Cooper's band), Reb Beach (also of Whitesnake and Dokken fame) on guitar and Rod Morgenstein on drums. Though now they also have a second guitar player. John Roth, who also plays with beloved cult band Giant.

Correction: Winger were NOT formed in 1978. They were formed in 1988, after Kip Winger and Paul Taylor had made two albums with Alice Cooper and decided that the time had come for them to do something of their own. One of the Alice Cooper songs they performed on (Kip obviously played bass, in case anyone's wondering) coincidentally became arguably Alice's biggest hit ever in my native Sweden, "He's back (the man behind the mask)". Kip was very pleasantly surprised to hear this from me during an interview 🙂 The song is on the "Friday the 13th VI" soundtrack, so if any one of you is a horror hound you may recall it too 🙂Alice still rehearses it especially for Sweden on every tour. And yes, Winger was a very successful band in the late 80s and early 90s, and Kip was VERY much a ladies man. He suffered from bad complexion in his teens so when his skin cleared and he was suddenly revealed as very attractive he enthusiastically made the most of all the female adoration he was getting. Like that time a girl pretended to be delivering a pizza to have an excuse to show up on his doorstep. Kip said he hadn't ordered a pizza, the girl burst into tears and admitted this was just a rouse to get close to him - and Kip took to comforting her, very thoroughly, for the rest of the night. Apparently, the highest number of girls he had in bed with him at the same time, was eight. Eventually, Kip began to resent the type of press his carnal shenanigans was getting him, when he found that the press and the public assumed that a man with such a lifestyle could not also be a capable, serious musician. Not true in the slightest, of course. Kip is an absolutely amazing bassist and multi-instrumentalist - he has even written a ballet! - and Winger as a whole are such brilliant musicians that Kip once referred to them as "the Dream Theater of hair metal". Something he denies today, presumably because he thinks the claim comes off as a cheesy. He does however maintain that he enjoys being recognized as a talented musician now that he's "old and ugly" - only that Kip Winger is still not ugly in the slightest. Like Kevin Bacon, he remains pretty much his same old self, if perhaps a little stockier and with one single white lock standing out from his ever-impressive hair, "Rogue of X-Men"-style.
