This was a Portuguese speaking crowd, yet they sang in English to Freddie; that's how much he was loved.. He responded by thanking them in Portuguese.

Oh you chose the right version of this for your reaction! It's perhaps my favourite when I want to experience the glory that is Freddie controlling a crowd. And don't forget, the audience wasn't even singing in their own language. Just awesome.

Roger Taylor said that there were about 300,000 people each night at the Rock in Rio concerts. These people do not speak English as their first language yet they knew every word to this song. The people of South America loved and still love Queen and really gave them a very warm reception.

Over 250K in the audience .. recorded the largest crowd ever at that time! Queen took to the stage at 2:00am! Very emotional to see Freddie honored by his fans singing to him .. and the crowd giving Brian some love, too. ❤❤. The song was written for Mary Austin his long-life friend and former fiancée! She was very devoted to Freddie .. he was her eternal love. ❤♾️

This was the first ever Rock in Rio festival. Queen headlined the festival which was 10 days. They played on the first night and the last night for a combined 600,000 fans. Queen had been to South America in 1981 and had a huge fan base. Freddie and Brian were shocked that a Portugese speaking audience knew their English songs off by heart. Roger said they didn't get on stage until 2:00am and he was worried that people wouldn't stay but they all did. Imagine a crowd like that singing your own song back to you. You should react to the studio album version which is beautiful. Freddie is on piano and Brian plays the harp. Thanks! Great reaction!

There are upwards of 350,000 people there, singing in a foreign language, and all under the direction of Freddie. I think if he told them all to hug and jump on one foot, they would. This is one of my top 3 Queen songs.

Even nowadays Brazilians who speak English are very few. Most recent data shows that 1 in 10 Brazilians are able to hold a simple conversation, that doesn't mean fluency. So, imagine at that time, probably the number were lower than nowadays. That's what we call passion!

Brian still perform this when he is touring with Q+AL. He is sitting on stage with his 12 stringed guitar and sing to/with the audience. He asks them to put on the lights in their phones and plays the middle section and in the end Freddie appears on a big screen - singing and conducting the crowd - - THAT makes you cry - and it makes Brian cry as well. You can find it on YT sadly I can not provide a link. Thank you for your reaction - - It is impressive that your reactions is so orientated to the music so we do not fall over our own feet to tell all about their names, education, rumors --- titles - - it is all about the music - congratulations .

Someone on a TV special about Queen and Freddie, said, isn't it a good thing Freddie was a good man? Imagine if he was another Hitler, someone who wanted control, someone who wanted to rule the world - Freddie had that charisma, the power to control a crowd. What if he was a man of evil? He could draw millions to his side. And this is only one concert, one crowd. I wonder if Jesus drew crowds like this? Actually probably not, the world population was not that great. And anyone hearing of Him, it would take many months for them to travel to where Jesus was. Well, bottom line, Freddie held the crowd in the palm of his hand, and it's just a good thing Freddie's soul was a good soul ❤

Thanks, NeverEnd... this was basically a duet with Freddie & Brian (on 12-string guitar, BTW)... you should also listen to the original album version when you have time & inclination... :)... also, this Brazilian crowd are NOT native English speakers.. but they know all the lyrics!.. and are also chanting for "Brian" on his guitar solo....

what also makes it so good is that back then it was probably harder to travel there,it would have taken a couple of hours for the place to empty and everyone leave the area.also for most of them english prob was their second language. this is before mobile phones were common place so everyone is watching directly and enjoying it for real, not there but giving attention to their phone and watching through their phone. this was written by freddie in 75.he said it wasn't about anyone but some say it was about his girlfriend mary austin who he lived together with for several years but ended their romantic relationship in 76 when freddie told her of his sexuality.she stayed a constant in his life till he passed in 91. he considered her his soulmate of sorts. in an interview he said" all my lovers asked why they couldn't replace mary?,but it's simply impossible.the only friend i've got is mary, and i don't want anybody else, to me ,she was my common law wife.to me it was a marriage.we believe in each other, that's enough for me".

Sadly your generation has been so cheated of great music for your time. Many of you have to go back in time to the 70s, 80s and 90s to find great music. It is a sad state in the production of music for this generation. Queen was one of the very best. No one could command a crowd the way Freddie Mercury did. He had people eating out of his hand and they would do whatever he wanted. It was so beautiful to see a performer able to make a crowd do that and because he was so loved. The whole band was so loved. But, Freddie was the front man. And to see him make the crowd follow along and sing along at Live Aid was amazing. The whole crowd was just rapt in attention. But, that was Freddie.

Eminem is incredible and important, but no musician has reached the heights of Michael Jackson, Queen and some others. It’s VITAL to remember that these artists did this without auto tune, without social media and streaming services, without regular tv appearances and gained their fame before MTV (were on it eventually). They wrote their own songs and played instruments.
