Even after they divorced they never stopped loving each other. Showtime has a great 6 part miniseries about George and Tammy’s life together based on a book written by their Daughter that was so good and quite a rollercoaster ride.

They were married and loved one another, but George's drinking made it impossible for Tammy, and George eventually found sobriety with his fourth wife, Nancy and had a successful 30 year marriage until his death, and Tammy eventually married George Richey her fifth husband and Jones and Tammy found peace with others but still clearly loved one another. Musically, their duets were done before, during and after their marriage to one another because they respected each other as musical artists and their voices blended so sweetly together.

Tammy once hid the keys from George so that he couldn't drive to get liquor. So George drove into town on a lawn mower.. Infamous story. There's an animation of that story in a George Jones and Tammy Wynette episode of "Tales of the Tourbus". You can find the clips on KZitem.

When they divorced they broke the hearts of a bunch of country music fans, mine included. It hurts to see them sing this song now because it didn't quite turn out this way for them. There's no doubt in my mind that George loved Tammy but he just couldn't get his drinking under control.

I am sooo happy with your choice of songs! This one is spectacular! It is so sad that their personal life just couldn't make it, like their professional life did! They were married for years, but ultimately divorced and married other people! I always thought that they NEVER stopped loving each other! I saw them in concert in Tupelo, Mississippi, not long after their divorce. They were wonderful! I was a little afraid that George would NOT show up, since he had a problem with alcohol and sometimes would go on a binder, where he just couldn't show! His nickname was "NO SHOW GEORGE", because of this! By the way, they continued to sing together for years, in concerts! She died so very young and will always be missed. At that time, she was known as "The First Lady of Country Music"! I loved her phenomenol VOICE and admirable spirit! She was lovely, inside and out. My hairdresser, Mackey Pettus, at one time was Tammy's hairdresser! I have mentioned before; I am originally from Mississippi, and so was Tammy! She was born in the Prentiss County Hospital and was from a very small area that was almost on the Alabama line! Both states like to claim her...HOWEVER, Tammy, herself, straightened that out at the Concert which I attended, by saying that she, like most people in attendance, was a Mississippian! Your reaction to this song was SPECTACULAR, as they all are! I loved their harmonies! WONDERFUL! They were WONDERFUL! I have a request! If you would, I and several people that I have talked to, would LOVE to hear GEORGE and TAMMY sing "Golden Rings"! It is such a lovely song! Their harmonies in it are SPECTACULAR! PLEASE react to it! Thank you so much for your glowing reaction of "We Gotta Hold On"! I really love your enthusiasm! You are a very, very good reactor and draw us into your reaction, which is always right on target, in my opinion, anyway! Thanks again! And, please react to "Golden Rings"!

I grew up listening to these 2! Together and separate, they always had a connection even after they divorced and both remarried other people. I would classify them as a Super Duet! The other Super Duet of that Era was Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn, Conway and Lorretta were never a couple, but they had chemistry when they performed.

Some voices were made for each other. Being a George & Tammy fan all my 55 years and knowing their story and how alcohol was a major factor in their split. I can tell George had a little buzz going on. He was a very bad, violent, alcoholic at that time. Britt’s smile can heal the world.

George Jones was a country legend singer songwriter from the 50's-80's. He struggled with alcoholism & drugs during his life. He was married at one time to fellow country music singer Tammy Wynette & they had some great duets together. He had so many hits such as "White Lightnin'", "We Must Have Been Out Of Our Minds", "Love Bug", "Things Have Gone to Pieces", "The Race Is On", "My Favorite Lies", "I'll Share My World With You", "Take Me", "A Good Year For The Roses," "If My Heart Had Windows" & many others.

Both of them had such incredible phrasing and I really wish you would check out some of her other hits like Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad, but also for some of the most amazing sad phrasing over a very slow waltz, you've got to check out Too Far Gone, and there is definitely a live video from a television appearance of it. But she's got boatloads of classic hits and they all sound just like her, and I loved her so much.

They both had mega solo hits as number one top country hits. Tammy had a number of medical problems and died young. George finally got clean in the end before he died. He almost ruined his career from his addictions and was nicknamed, No Show Jones. Tammy's biggest hit was Stand By Your Man, and George's ingest was, He Stopped Loving Her Today.
