The sisters Ann (vocals) and Nancy (guitar) Wilson founded the legendary rock band Heart, inducted into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. The drummer, Jason Bonham, is the son of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. John Bonham passed away in Sept. 1980 which marked the end of the band. From Wikipedia: Rather than replace Bonham, Led Zeppelin chose to disband out of respect for their deceased bandmate. They said in a press release on 4 December 1980: "We wish it to be known that the loss of our dear friend and the deep respect we have for his family, together with the sense of undivided harmony felt by ourselves and our manager, have led us to decide that we could not continue as we were." Also, the bowler hats worn by Jason and the choir were a nod to the famous hat worn by Jason’s father, John. Great reaction!

@loup garou - it's definitely up there and arguably true. I love Ann's delivery in the early days but it was more raw. It seems in the mid-80s she might have taken some lessons to control her natural ability and as a result, her voice sounds phenomenal from that point on. IMO, Ann's best performance was from the 2002 DVD Live In Seattle. For me, it's her at her peak and their best concert. That being said I saw them live the night they recorded at Caesars Windsor for the DVD in 2014 and she killed that too.

What a delightful reaction. And yeah, you nailed it. When John Bonham died, it ended the band. Just like the 1977 plane crash ended Lynyrd Skynyrd, bonzo's death ended Led Zeppelin. And that's his son and so of course, there's an incredible emotional connection going on there, and the song was huge before John Bonham died, it's just that it also has more less turned into kind of a tribute to him. He was one of the greatest drummers of all time. Just beyond stupendous. I got very emotional watching this even though I've seen it a few times before. And I can't believe you haven't done heart. That seems impossible to me. You haven't done Crazy On You, or Barracuda, or Magic Man? Wow. There is some good live footage of them doing those songs and another hit or two that I see people react to sometimes. But also the audio itself is so good. I know you will love them. When John Bonham (the original drummer passed away the remaining band members decided they would not be able to replace him both talent and chemistry wise so they disbanded and this marked the official end of Led Zepplin, while 'unofficially' adopting his son, Jason. This performance was them being honoured at the Kennedy Centre in 2012. Jason told the band he would not be able to attend due to 'other commitments', which naturally upset them. The first they knew he would actually be there was when he was introduced at the beginning of the performance, hence the bands reaction and emotion, the emotion displayed by them throughout would have been a mixture of remembering their friend John, listening to an amazing version of the song that will go down as one of the greatest of all time and played how they intended, to be built up over time and with many layers, reminiscing and of course, Jason playing drums for his Dad. The significance of the bowler hat the choir wore was John's signature hat. :)

Ann Wilson has one of the best rock voices that you have ever heard. You need to listen to some of their songs starting with their song "Baracuda". They are a staple in rock music. And the man that was introduced before her is the son of the original drummer of Led Zeppelin. Who always wore a furby hat and his son wore one as a tribute to his father. And he is not the drummer for the band Heart.

The drummer is Jason Bonham, son of original drummer John Bonham the drummer for LED ZEPPELIN. He stood at the end and honored them as well as his dad who passed away. The choir members and Jason Bonham were wearing bowler hats, which was a tribute to the band's late drummer John Bonham, that’s why you saw some tears from the original band members.

Check out the other tributes to Zepplin that night, Kid Rock, Lenny Kravitz, and Foo Fighters. The guitarist is Shane West, and was the band director for the Kennedy center .

Yes, Lenny did do a song along with Foo Fighters, Kid Rock, with Jack Black introducing and doing a great retrospective on the group. Entire tribute is worthy of a look, but take us with you. btw as far a live performances and how much the audience reacted to it, this one, Justin Timberlake/Chris Stapleton at the CMA Awards and KZ Tandingan "Rolling in the Deep' cover are my favorite live performances. Check them out, thank me later. Keep on keeping on. Thanx!

The emotion was very real. Heart toured briefly with Zeppelin during a summer Canada tour. Robert Plant hates this song being covered.... but complimented Heart for being the best he's ever heard. He was truly touched by the performance

Yes, Heart is great. Magic Man is sensuous coming-of-age, Crazy On You a visceral sexual balm in the face of soulless societal violence, and Barracuda a venomous commentary on sexism in the music biz.

Back not long after Heart came out, they were refered to as the "female" Led Zeppelin. They were the logical choice to pay tribute to the originals.....

The hats are bowlers. Original drummer, John Bonham (Bonzo) wore a bowler occasionally. It was a tribute to him.

These sisters are as famous as the band that they are singing this tribute for. I was lucky enough to see them several times in their early years it was so raw and intense that by the end of the show you kinda felt like you had been run over by a truck. Thx Britt. P.S. you can do more Heart any time.

The ironic thing about it is, the tempo and delivery of this tribute is closer to the LZ studio version than the Live LZ version you watched, which is probably why people were bringing up their studio version.

Britt, The Bowler Hat, worn by Jason Bonham & the Choir, is paying homage to Jason’s father John “Bonzo” Bonham, the original drummer for Led Zeppelin, who is often pictured wearing one…Jason Bonham was/is very close to the members of Zeppelin, he actually played with Led Zeppelin during their Celebration Day Tribute concert for Atlantic Record’s founder Ahmet Ertegun in London 2007…There is a Celebration Day film & album available of the concert, which was released in 2012…Good Luck Jjh

IMO Ann Wilson has the GREATEST female voice in Rock/Pop music. The only one who comes close is the highly underrated Anastacia. In fact, they performed TOGETHER in 2006 on the program "Frosted Pink". They sang Heart's greatest hit "Barracuda" and Ana sounded as good as Ann Wilson.

As I'm sure other people have already mentioned the drummer is Jason Bonham the son of John Bonham, whose passing marked the end of Led Zeppelin... He isn't the drummer for Heart, but the following year his band toured with Heart, and Heart's entire second set was all Led Zeppelin songs, with Jason on drums. It Rocked! 🤘😎🤙

First off, Ann's the brunette and Nancy's the blonde-people used to confuse them, so they made buttons with that phrase on them. They're from Bellevue, a suburb of Seattle. Heart was on tour when the Kennedy Honors were scheduled, so Ann and Nancy flew in from their tour stop to perform. As someone said, Ann had the flu. They were able to rehearse once before the concert. Ann and Nancy are admired and revered by the bands around here (Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, etc.). Nancy used to have those Seattle other band members over for "hootenanies" on her farm (in the '90's, when she and Ann still lived around here), when everyone would sit around and jam on acoustic guitars. Chris Cornell (of Soundgarden) spoke at their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Ann sang backing vocals on the Alice In Chains song "Rooster". John Paul Jones (bassist for Led Zeppelin) produced and played bass on their acoustic album "The Road Home", which was recorded over 4 days at a Seattle club The Backstage. I was lucky enough to go to all 4 shows. Last, you need to listen to the full version of the tribute Ann and Nancy did-kzitem.info/news/bejne/rXyutZV6nnyei6A&ab_channel=DonJack

Every year, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC presents the annual Kennedy Center Honors event, to give awards to five artists in different fields. I imagine the band counted as one award. The multicolored ribbons are attached to a medal. This was designed by a New York graphics arts firm called Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv. The different colors were to signify different fields of art, in this case music.

The bowler hats that they're all wearing was a signature thing John Bonham was notorious for wearing. It was a way of paying respect to him.

When you can do the greatest band ever to exist justice with a cover… you are doing something amazing. The bowler hats they wear are a tribute to John Bonham, the member who passed, whose son drums on this, and who is known as the best drummer ever.

Stunning Tribute to a Legendary Band.❤ Interesting point of note, Heart toured Europe as support to Queen early in their career. The story goes that dear sweet Freddie Mercury was obsessed with lead vocalist Ann Wilson, following her around with stars in his eyes.

Hi Britt the drummer is Jason Bonham the son of John Bonham who passed away. John always wore a bowler/ fedora when he played. So the entire choir wearing one was a beautiful tribute to John. And yes very emotional. I tear up every time I watch it. Incredible performance! Thank you young lady for sharing.

I've watched this video hundreds of times and still get a chill watching. Ann and Nancy are heavily influenced by Zeppelin. They cover a lot of their songs. In fact when I saw Heart in 1977 they closed the show with Zeppelin's "Rock n Roll". They were petrified about doing this in front of their idols. Didn't want to screw it up. They didn't. Oh, any live version of Zeppelin is way better than a studio cut, in my opinion.

I think the hat style is technically called a "bowler hat" but yeah, the original drummer who passed away often wore one, and his son (playing in the video) wears one to honour his Dad.

That is Nancy Wilson, her sister is the Guitarist Nancy Wilson The gentleman in the middle is Robert Plant, the one on the right is the guitarist Jimmy page and the one on the right is the bassist John Paul Jones.

Both do beautiful ladies and so talented and rock legends. Yes they have a very deep and close connection. Robert Plant is Jason’s godfather,he was only 13 when his mother and Robert told him about his father’s passing.
